One of the most amazing stage experiences in my life has been Cirque Du Soleil.

I watched them 2 years ago when they finally arrived in Dallas with "Alegria".

I had booked the tickets montsh in advance but the day of the show it was pouring down so bad that there it  was a serious chance the show might could be cancelled.

But they kept going.  And after few minutes in the show, magically, the rain decreased.

My ex, our daughter and I were seating in 4th row. One of the best seats. I thought: probably i am going to see them only once in my life, i want to be right there.

If you know them....... they are pure poetry shaped in circus acrobatic performances.

Its a full immersion in a childhood state of mind that makes you relive the "ohh" and "ahh" of a kid fascinated in front a fire eater.

I was elated. The show delivered a magnificent set of numbers that were beyond my expectation. And i was well prepared to the event. I had followed their beginnings, their first shows, read books and articles, watched on tv their other shows. They played some of them on Bravo. I was ready to be amazed. But not that amazed.

After the show i bought the Alegria cd. There are a lot of pieces sung in Italian.

If you have never watched them please give yourself a favor...if you can,  go to see any of their live shows.

My daughter loved it so much. Even my usually not easily moved ex husband told me he got mesmerized by their excellent prowless exercises. The music is so evocative, the costumes superb, the scenography transport you in a time and place out of this daily, boring, worring, heavy, dull reality.

So if today you need some poetry and magic in your life watch this.... Alegria clip

SW...i think they are people from another planets.....lol.....i can easily imagine them accurately selected in some hidden lab somewhere in China or Russia and brought to maturity only to amaze us poor mortals....lol......
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 21, 2007....
o, i think that too, sometimes...although i'll confess that at other times, i've been known to have particularly, er...intense...dreams about one or two of the contortionists... :D

ginsoul- I believe I've taped every one that has come on Bravo. They are absolutely wonderful.

My wife and I saw "Messiere"(sp?) at Treasure Island and "O" at Bellagio in Vegas.

Some of the finest entertainment around. The music is always great.

I don't know if they are still around, but if you've never seen "Riverdance" and "Lord of the Dance", they are well worth it.

i wish they would visit my country so i could watched them. i saw them on a t.v. special and they were marvelous! how much so if its live.
  • gingersoul said on Mar 21, 2007....

SW....LOL....i think you are the only men ...i mean, these girls must be incredible in bed, dont you think? Out of any normal human position..not even teh most expert Kamasutra lover can reach that flexibility......

i am sure that they take advantage by their skills and satisfy easily themselves between a flip and a jump.........:-P

    Skald.....sorry for the clip....

Beyond...oh you mean the underwater show? Really? That is being told as their best ....i am really envious....Yes, i saw Riverdance.......but on tv only...i really liked it but Soleil is just another thing...:-)

Queen....the live experience is really magic...you are right there in the middle of that world and they interact with the public before an during the show. An acrobat  did a number just two inches from us .....my daughter was so thrilled..well, me too......LOL...

Plus, they let some of the public go behind stage after the show (mind you, you have to pay an extra) and talk with them and have autographs...

  • queenparanoia said on Mar 21, 2007....
wow that would be so cool!!!

Their performances are amazing, ginger. I love the elegant movements of their bodies. And the costumes are gorgeous!
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 21, 2007....
GS: i'll confess i wonder if there are steamy affairs going on among contortionists... :D but i somehow doubt i'm the only guy here thinking these things. :>

I wanted to see Alegria so badly when it came through Denver, and I just couldn't swing it to buy a ticket at the time.  But I was so entranced even with the name.  (which, as you know, means happiness).  I've already decided that if I ever get another cat, I'm going to name it Alegria.

  • botoni said on Mar 21, 2007....
They are wonderful!  I ve seen their live performances in the big tent.  I ve also seen them performing live on a huge outdoor stage at the Calgary Stampede.  To top it off I believe they originated in Canada!
  • gingersoul said on Mar 21, 2007....

Mimi........those costumes are made for some Carnevale in Venice or a parade in New Orleans...i woud love to be dressed just once like the Paradise Bird...:-)...and the number i would love to learn is the one where the acrobats fly around draped in that long fabric rope that wrap and unwrap them making them drop until two inches from the floor......they simply defy gravity..

SW...oh, surely they have steamy love affairs....imagine  that...they have all the tools...and with those bodies and all that adrenaline rushes going around.....:-D

Kruu........in Italian happiness is "felicita'"........"allegria" (with another elle added) means properly that playful mood leading to silliness, joking and playing around...a common name we have is Allegra....a friend of mine has named her daugher with this name....:-)

  • gingersoul said on Mar 21, 2007....

Bot...yes, they are a Canadian company and their headquarter i think is actually in Calgary...... I saw a documentary following 5 artists doing their try-outs to work with them...the company main gym is huge like a stadium....lol....and each number requires its own instructors, costumists, assistants, make up artists..

its a huge organizational machine....yet... you forget everything when they are on stage.....

  • kruuyai said on Mar 21, 2007....
Yes, a more accurate translation of the Spanish would be "joy" which is really the feeling I get from the word "Alegria."  I imagine myself in a sparkling lagoon, splashing water up toward the sky, eyes closed, smiling ear to ear at the sun.  Inside my mind, I'm singin g that song.  "Alegria, alegria, alegria.... alegria , alegria y amor...."
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 21, 2007....
    GS: o, that's something i've imagined quite a bit. :D

Kruu.....uhmm, will the cat be with you too? .....LOL

SW.....imagine what might happen in the dressing rooms before the show to calm down their stage frieght........oh man.....LOL...

  • silverwhisper said on Mar 21, 2007....
thank you, GS. i now have some erotica to write for the ride home tonight. :D

    SW........my pleasure........since i will be reading it.......:-)

Hey, you should mention me now...LOL...

  • kruuyai said on Mar 22, 2007....
Well, ginger, the cat wouldn't be too full of alegria if she were in that water with me, would she?  ;-)
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 22, 2007....
now GS, i don't like including my fellow soulcasters in my writing...besides, if i were to start doing that, i'd have to start including everyone, and there's enough rumors about me and CW as it is, aren't there? :>

i'm still working on it. it may be ready tomorrow or the next day. :D

I watched a video performance or two of theirs on my flight to Peru. That was really incredible. It's mazing not only that they can do such things but that there are people who take the time to try to do those things. Last night I saw a demostration of flare bartending on TV. Once again, utterly stunning. The human body is truly a remarkable invention.
  • gingersoul said on Mar 22, 2007....

Kruu......LOL..the cat would be full of "rabbia".....Italian for anger.....hey, a great title for one Cirque's show.....please, no swimming with the cat...i want you happy and safe.....no scratches on your face....{hug} .

SW....far from me to push you on this.....my suggestion was merely on the input i gave you not on my persona....lol.....plus, i know you have a long list in front of you....starting with CW..........:-)

Hotaka....oh you mention another skill that truly amazes me...and i dont even have to be drunk to appreciate it.......lol.......what did do in Peru? Macchu Picchu or mucho job? ....:-)

  • hotaka said on Mar 22, 2007....
ginger, I went to see Alpamayo - La mass bella montana del mondo - or something like that. I don't speak or write Spanish. But it was the rainy season and I barely saw any of the glorious mountain peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. And when I tried to hike to Alpamayo I got such a bad case of altitude sickness I decided it was in the best interest of my survival that I give up. At over 4,500 metres I could barely walk up hill!

ginger:  Someday over an amaretto, I'll tell you the story behind my cat's claw puncture wound from a cat freaked out by a scary movie.  lol
  • gingersoul said on Mar 22, 2007....

Hotcake........hey, pretty close with your Spanish.....la mas bonita, eh?..i believe you...

I saw some pixs of that places that are tuly breathtaking........

I am not a mountain girl (i prefer to live sea level on in the water..lol...) but i have been in quite few high peaks....i have hiked on several mountains in the Alps, for example...do you know Dolomiti Mountains?.....Cortina? I went  on the Jugoslavia side of the Alps as well......they are absolutely stunning...i went to hike in the Natural park of Abruzzo Mountains ....

Here in Usa my highest point  has been New Mexico...i remember that when i got out of the car before reaching Santa Fe i felt so dizzy i thought my head was exploding...i had to seat and take deep breaths ...my leg were jello-jello fro a while.....it hit me like a hammer because we didnt compensate probably and went straight from flat to height....i dont even remember how high we were but it didn't seem to me we were that high....:-)

  • hotaka said on Mar 22, 2007....

I know the Dolomites. It was one of my choices when I was deciding how to blow $3000 on a hiking trip in another country. I still want to go there.

I spent three days in Huaraz at 3,100 metres aclimatizing but still I didn't do well over 4,000 metres. I felt like such a wimp. I will go back and try again. If I can't handle the elevation then what am I supposed to do in the Himalayas or Karakoram when I go someday?

  • gingersoul said on Mar 22, 2007....

Hotcake....oh, the Himalayas......i have always dreamed to see them one day....it will never happen...i keep daydreaming though...

unless you want bring me with you.....i will stop at some village way low though..... waiting for you to come back down......i will entertain the monks....:-)

    You mountains climbers are made of a different fabric for me......i truly admire your efforts and gut..... and then you are indeed compensate of all your fatigues and trials ...you must feel like an eagle up there....{hug}

  • gingersoul said on Mar 22, 2007....
