Is it me or does it seem like everytime your child gets involved with some type of extra curricular activity the schools are either asking for a check or proposing that you as a parent start working as a full-time fund-raiser, sales person during the school year. I find myself continually selling cookie dough, candles, working car washes, and selling advertising space all so that the team my child is on can get this or that or go here or there. On the one hand, yes I understand that the money has to come from somewhere and well, if it can come from fundraising rather than my pocketbook that is wonderful. But, then, on the other hand, the time and effort to continually find new people to ask to purchase or donate becomes more difficult. I believe in a few years the whole town will be avoiding me because they know I will be asking for some sort of donation. How do I continue finding avenues to prospects?

I believed that my attempt to sell advertising space on a banner to local businesses was a success. I called a variety of small business explaining the advertising product, the cost of a mere $75 for their name to be placed at local school games for the entire school year, the tax deduction, the community spirit. Everyone I called talked to me eagerly and asked me to fax them more information. Now that I am making my follow up calls, I keep getting excuses that they are not the one to make the final decision, they are still waiting, etc. I need some advice on how to close the deal. What else can I do to convince these businesses to support our local schools? Any takers?
