In ten years. Where are our blogs then ? Do you think that the posts we made are still on the net or have they just vanished? what will become of our blogs ? Have you printed any out to conserve them ? I have not.

Theoretically, once they're out there in cyberspace, they're out there forever. In ten years, I think they'll still be here, assuming the website still is up and running. Kinda weird to think about, isn't it? Some I have saved, some I don't.

I have never thought about printing anything.  I have wondered about who is "in charge."  Are they reading posts?  Why do you write about a subject and then get ads off to the side on a related subject?  It's all so complicated to me.  Guess it's computerized mumbo-jumbo.  Hope space starts to run out and they delete me eventually!

I have many of my blog posts saved on my computer because the writing was important to me.

But it is interesting to think about where our posts here will be in 10 years or who might even be reading them.
  • wombat said on Mar 20, 2007....
Well, a few people who became famous by then might be in a little trouble...  you think?
  • wombat said on Mar 20, 2007....
Hey! I tried to delete that when I saw how stupid it was...it popped up anyway!  Ignore it, please.... I am frustrated with trying to post anything!  I keep getting "Wombat said 1 minute ago..."  Then nothing.  I have been trying to outdo the system and write a few words, then hit edit.  I deleted that last stupid comment and breathed a sigh of relief, then bam, there it was anyway!

(Zayda, this is an example of why I have nothing worth saving.....ha)
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 21, 2007....
honestly, i keep the writing that i'm particularly happy with, like zayda. i find a certain measure of comfort in this. the rest, the comments and the like, i don't particularly mind. although i'll confess i'm a tad curious, i'm not curious enough to think about it much.

Skald, I think that I am going to set some time aside to print of the blogs that are important to me.  I will place them in a plastic sleeve file and use it as a journal of my life from now on. That is a very good idea!

MissMimi. That´s it we don't know whether the web side will be running. I think blog as it is might be temporary thing. Not to worry about though. It´s nice while it lasts.
Wombat. I think there is a machine like a search engine that looks for words and therefor this of that add appears. There once was one in Icelandic on my page. Don't ask  me about what, because I don't remember.
Wombat don't worry about having to delete the comment. It was not stupid. There might be some one famous in 10 years who does not want to acknowledge his former writings. It seems to be impossible to delete a comm ent once it is on it´s way even though you press cancel.
Zayda. I think you were right to save important blogs  on your computer.
Ed.  I think you are also wise to do so.
Polar. What an good idea. Ive done it a bit on my other blog, printing out to put in my diary but lately Ive not written any diary at all nor have I printed out. Ive not printed anything out of this blog here.

Never thought about it till I saw this post. Great and intriguing post by the way.
Maybe I should begin to download and save my posts. I'd like to see how much I've grown in 10 yrs.
  • skald said on Mar 21, 2007....
Husbndhater. This is a good idea. You can put them on a disk to save space, But maybe blog posts don't take all that much space.

I plan on gathering the 364 entries from 'Days in the Life of', my online blogged journal, and forming a published book out of them in diary format.  It will have to be edited and adjusted with a little 'artistic license'.  I want to throw in some poetry and recipes.  Like Water for Chocolate had recipes and stories in it.  I might include some photographs.

Also, I would like to get a volume of poetry published.

I took a peek at your writings, Sariah, and I really enjoyed it.

Interesting question, Skald. I'm pretty compulsive about my writings, be they blogs, creative works or old essays from school. I have both papers I wrote for the Urban Studies class I took about a year ago. I backed up all my daily-life blog entries because a lot of my creative works (including a novel) are based upon my experiences.

Saraiah. Ive  looked at your page and I like it.
Harriedpsychmajor. I was also looking at your daily life blog and I found out we have the same birthday Jan,20

Well, perhaps we should be doing something to preserve our blogs, just in case. I know a few months back, Yahoo! came up with an online time capsule where people could pretty much contribute anything (though it had to pass for merit and content by the time capsule creators) to it. The capsule will be opened 20 years from now, I believe. But anyway, I'd copy everything I've written to some sort of computer file, or maybe even make paper copies of everything, just in case there is a shelf-life for our blogs. We wrote this stuff on here for a reason, and I think part of that is so people will continue to read what we wrote, even after we're gone. I guess I'm going on that tangent of "being rembered by future generations for something", but maybe that's what we want, isn't it? Then again, if you don't give a damn about you wrote, then don't worry about it.

Skald, there is only 2 days between your birthday and mine.  The secret is in my email address :D
  • skald said on Mar 21, 2007....
Chadmandu. I get your point and I think it is good that you have saved so much. I have to think things over about saving blogs. I have printed some out which I am making in my own language and I have years of diaries so maybe I´ll leave something behind. Maybe not , it might all be a co incident.
Polar. We could celebrate our birthdays together. ♥♥♥

You made me think Skald.  I m really not sure if I want to keep my writing.  For me its pretty much what comes to mind at the minute.  No rhyme or reason....(sometimes no sense)...I just blog away in bliss.
  • skald said on Mar 22, 2007....
botoni. That is  maybe the way I thought too. I know this is just a momentary thing. It is fun and I like it.
  • chadmandu72 said on Mar 22, 2007....
I mean, you're basically asking yourself: Do you care if you leave anything behind or not? If you're just writing on here to let off some steam, to get something off your chest, then you might not be totally concerned about saving it, because it's something you wanted to release, not keep. On the other hand, if you care about what you write, then it's obviously important to save things. I've said many times before that all writers are a bit selfish in their ways, writing what they want to write, not what someone tells them. But writers can be a bit egotistical as well, in that they want to be remembered for what they put down on paper, or the computer screen. It goes back to that idea of being remembered for something you've done. It's up to you if you want to or not. No pressure :)
  • skald said on Mar 22, 2007....
Chadmandu. That´s it when I was young I wanted to be remembered but not especially for writing. I have written journals all my life and I leave them behind for my kids. I´m not letting steam off. I just like writing. I´ve always been writing. It might be in the gens.
Sue I want someone to read my blog. It is more a social  thing.
The question was in general. If I want to leave some writing behind it is in my own language because  my language is my tool.
Sure we write about what we want. That´s how the game should be. I´m soon going to give  my self the time to read your writings. Best wishes to you. :-))))

I have saved some of mine but for the most part it is just rambling. Just nonsense and fun.

I don't know where I will be in 10 years, but if this website is still up I think I will be in for the long haul.
  • skald said on Mar 24, 2007....
Mom Wow mom I don't know if I´ll be writing blogs in 10 years. Yes this is mostly a spur of a moment thing I think. even thought we sometimes write pearls. I hope
