This idea came to me with the help of dailyachesandpains who, in response to my post about the things I miss while living overseas, sent me a CARE package filled with some yummies.  I wanted to thank her by sending her some Polish chocolates and other treats.  My only problem was finding a box to put everything in.  But her box arrived so quickly that I was able to simply use the same box that she sent my CARE package in.

We joked about how this box had made a round trip from the U.S. to Poland and how she would probably reuse it to send to her soldier in Iraq, and eventually this box will have seen more of the world than either of us.  We toyed with the idea of keeping the box going back and forth between us in perpetuity, sharing little, inexpensive doo-dads with each other for fun, or even sending it to different soulcasters, but we both discovered in a hurry that the cost of postage can far exceed the cost of said doo-dads.  And that is how the idea of the “Little Box” was born.

I have a little box… much smaller than the one that Daily and I used.  And I would like to launch this little box on a round-the-world trip to visit my fellow soulcasters.  And, I would like the voyage of the Little Box to be documented here on soulcast so that we can all enjoy.

Here’s how it would work:

1)  The holder of the Little Box (currently me) would find a small gift that will fit inside the Little Box.  The gift can be something that is representative of the place where the holder is living, the place where the holder is from, or of the holder him or herself.  Preferable, it should be something lightweight to keep postage costs reasonable.

2)  The holder would post an invitation, both here and on their own blog (linking the two) to a soulcaster that they would like to send their gift to.

3)  If the chosen recipient agrees, the two would make arrangements to secretly share contact information.

4)  By agreeing to be a recipient of “The Little Box,” you are agreeing that you will:

          a) Post a photo of the Little Box (without showing the mailing addresses or real names) and its contents both here and on your own blog, linking the two.  This way, people can follow the voyage of the Little Box here as if reading a novel, and new interest can be generated by the new posts, so that new soulcasters will become aware of its existence, too.

          b)  Send the Little Box on its way by following steps 1-3 above.

I’m visualizing a westward trip… let’s see how many different places the Little Box can visit on its way around the world.  And when it’s finished circumnavigating the globe, maybe we can send it back around in the other direction.

So, as the current holder of  the Little Box (which, BTW, came in Daily’s original CARE package… Daily, can you guess what it is?), I hereby extend this formal invitation…

POLARHEART… would you like to be the first recipient of the Little Box?

    2007 17

Hi everyone... kruuyai here with the latest update on the Little Box.  I spent the morning getting the Little Box reinforced (it was a bigger job than you might imagine), and here it is... on my window sill.  As you can see, it's quite the dreary day here in Poland and has been pouring rain off and on all day.  What that means in terms of the Little Box's voyage is that there is going to be a weather delay.  I was planning on going to the open air market today to get the doodad that's to go inside the Little Box, but with my recent struggle to rid myself of the virus of the year, and the imminent threat of another downpour... well, it's just not going to happen today.  Which means that it won't happen until Sunday, because on Fridays and Saturdays, I have to stay home and work.

But never fear.  The Little Box will depart for Polarheart's UK next week, and who knows, she may be better prepared for the journey than if we had rushed things.  I will keep you updated and will post photos and a video documentary of the Little Box's departure from Poland.  Stay tuned!

ATTENTION;  Please be careful what you put in the box and

be sure that the item is fully described and a proper value listed

on the Customs form. Being a former/retired  customs officer I

can assure you that if you put a hand crafted wooden item into the

box and claim a nominal value..it will be bounced at the border not

for the value but the wood. Items entering the US from  i.e.Pacific rim

areas are subject to seizure due to parasites/bugs etc and may never

reach it's destination. Please check with the local consulate or embassy

before sending even NON value items.

  • kruuyai said on Mar 24, 2007....

daily:  I know you mentioned that sisterhood to me once before.  Did you tell me what it was and I just forgot?   Can you tell me again?  Wouldn't it be cool to pick out some wild or elegant article of clothing, wear it to one special event, and then pass it on to someone else so that they could do the same and keep passing it on?  Am I addicted to this "pass it on" concept?  Kind of like chain letters, isn't it?  Banish the thought!

Polar... You are really carrying on in the finest Little Box tradition.  I love your photos of her enjoying her Welcome to the U.K. snack, and now this one, all bundled up for her trip to Iceland.  Godspeed, Little Box.  I know that skald is anxiously awaiting your arrival.

I'm moving tomorrow and will be incommunicada until Monday.  I wonder if Little Box will already be in Iceland by the time I get back to soulcast?  I'm on pins and needles, waiting to see what Polar put in her.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

I'm a little late getting here also but what a fantastic idea.  I love the pictures of Little Box.  This is one of the coolest things I have ever heard of.  I will keep checking back to see the journey that Little Box makes around the world.

I would definately love to be considered for welcoming Little Box into my home, in the desert.  I don't know if she could handle the heat considering where she has been so far, but I promise I would keep her in air conditioning. :)

    Such a terrific idea.

Hi everyone!   Just checking in to see how things are going.  skald, it was great to see a current pic of you!  (the last one I saw, you were 16).  I'm sure LB enjoyed her stay with you.

    Well, it's official, I can't get internet in my apartment.  I might do some posts at home and bring them to the internet cafe on CD, but it's just not the same, and the connections in these places are so slow, that commenting is not much fun, either.  I'm still trying to work out a wifi connection.  If that doeeesn't work, I won't be around much for the next couple of months.  I miss you all terribly.  Please take good care of LB!  {{{{{{{{{{{{hugs to all}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Little Box arrived today. It was a blustery, rainy day, and sitting in the postbox was a bit of an ordeal because our carrier failed to shut the lid completely. So, Little Box and the other mail were a bit damp, which left some of the post grumpy. They groused about the insensitive postal carrier for a bit. But our Little Box shook the dampness off like the trooper she is.

Little Box and I sat down and shared steaming cups of chai tea, while the little guy had cocoa. We all shared some delicious cookies.

Little Box seemed to like the Dark Chocolate covered shortbread best.

HSGirl--Little Box is basically traveling the world in a westerly direction. She started with Kruuyai in Poland and went to Polarheard in the UK then to Sklad in Iceland and to Daily on the East Coast then to Mimi in the Midwest and then me a bit further, but not by much, in the Midwest. Next she is going to Missunderstood who is south of me and a bit further west.
  • kruuyai said on Apr 29, 2007....

Zayda: Thanks for the photos!  I love this collection.  Soon, LB is going to have a longer travelogue than I do!  And like mother like daughter... I love dark chocolate covered shortbread cookies, too.  :)

  • polarheart said on Apr 29, 2007....
HSGirl, the person who receives Little Box gets to decide where she will go next (as long as it is westwards).  It is good that you have stated your interest here as other LB followers will see that you are "available" to receive her, but the choice remains the current recipient's.  If you are "chosen" you will be requested to contact the holder of LB at that time via email (they will provide their email address). . .never ever give your address here.  You will obviously have to give your address to the holder via email.  Hope this makes sense.  Polar x

Whew!  I saw a post about Little Box Jr. on someone's blog...then Little Box on another...and got hooked!  I traced her to here and followed her from the "conception" through the itinerary of her travels, but now I have to go back and read the details where I left off because somewhere along the line I missed where Little Box Jr. was born.  I did see where people tried to fix Little Box up with Amazon box and Oval Box - or was Oval Box for Jr.?  At any rate, I didn't see who Little Box Jr.'s father is.  Do Box's have fathers?  Oh dear, you might not see me again for awhile!
  • dailyachesandpains said on Aug 26, 2007....
    Ceinna, hello!

Little Box Jr. was born on the North East Coast of the USA.  To be exact, in my basement.  Her Mommy, Little Box, started her journey, made it to a few places in the US, my home being first because of it starting east and going west.  While she was here, there was a stuffed animal named "Lobstah"  and he couldn't keep his claws off of LB.  It wasn't until the sudden hault of Little Box during her intended journey that I noticed Little Box Jr. in my basement.  She was hardly holding on.  "MOM" was supposed to be the next care giver to Little Box, but Little Box never made it there.  Therefore, out of fairness, we collectivly decided that I send LB Jr. to her.  She is there with her now.  www.soulcast.com/Mom

I'll admit, it's getting a little confusing with all the posts.  Kruu (Little Box Inventor) and I are going to have to talk about this, lol.

Please keep following her story, it's so much fun!  The goal is for LB Jr. to repeat trips around the world stopping at different places over and over.  I don't believe Kruu wants anyone to have Little Box more than once...everyone should enjoy her!

I havent yet called out the next host/hostess for Little Box Jnr. I know three people waving and stomping for her but the rules are that she is to travel westward in the hope of making it around the world. West is a looooooooooooong way from here.
