It is most interesting to me that most people who say that they live by the Bible ,  quote it all of the time and claim to love Jesus link him to jehovah at all.  To claim that Jesus was sent by Jehovah or was his son goes against the Old Testament.  Jehovah said that he and he alone created everything.  He was the Holy of Holies and none stood beside him.  He makes this abundantly clear.  He also says  that since he created the "great and terrible day of the lord" where he would do horrible things to the people who he claimed to be his chosen ones that no prophet would ever come to them to save them.  he said no saviour would ever come to them but him and he repeatedly told the people that.  To take it even further he said that if any parent ever had a child born to them that spoke or acted like a prophet they were to kill him themselves.  OK people that is someone ordering parents to kill an innocent child.   Does that even remotely suggest that he was sending his son to save anyone from anything????Ot that a saviour would come to the people???

shiningstar:  You are ascribing human qualities to God in my opinion.  Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are one.  Jesus did not die and ascend to heaven it was God himself.  That is my interpretation.  I certainly am not saying you are wrong, because I have vowed never to argue religion.  I too have wrestled with God's severe treatment of old testament Jews and others.  I can only say he is God and we mere mortals cannot begin to comprehend his motives.

I'll say your wrong, to both of you.  Though I respect Muck not wanting to engage in debate.

Where does he say the things you quote Shining, don't get me wrong Jehovah is/was a beast but you got to back up Bibilical debate with Bibilical quote, or at least very solid logic and historical information.

You might want to buy a good translation of the Bible. I still love the
King James. I think it was, itself, inspired. I have the updated version
(no THEEs and THOUs, that was olde English). Then you might want
to find a good Bible church. Stay away from the Jehovah's Witnesses,
the Mormons, the Catholics, and the Scientologists (to name a few).
Find a good church and let the Lord speak to you through His word
and the preacher. If the preacher starts spouting things that do not
match up with the Bible, find another church. God will speak to you
in your spirit over time. It is funny. My family goes to church and when
we discuss the message over lunch, we all come away with something
different. God speaks to each of us with His own message. I visited a
church once and was so moved, I bought the cassette tape. I think
I heard something new every time I listened to that tape during the
next several weeks. And Muckraker is absolutely right--God is the
father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. If you have to believe that to be
    a Christian.

comparing the god of the jews to the god of the new testament is like comparing night and day, isn't it?

what bible translation are you using? the KJV sounds pretty but it isn't easy to understand. the NIV is quite popular, though.

As I said, the New KJV has been de-olde Englishized so it reads just fine.
Many like some of the more recent translations. My wife for example. I
really do not follow that God of the Jews and God of the New Testament
deal. God is God. In the Old Testament, they were dealing with God the
Father. No one can meet His standards, which the Old Testament proved
over and over. The New Testament deals with God the Son, Jesus. The
Bible is now closed (thus my disbelief in anything Mormon). We are now
in the period of the Holy Spirit.

Silverwhisper the god of the old testament is the god of the new testament. There is no difference found anywhere.  There would be no new testament if there was not an old.

Alien: To ask someone to find the truth and yet tell him to "stay away" from certain groups is already a clear indication of your bias. I believe that he who honestly seeks God will find him, no matter where he journeys and no matter how circuitous the route is. I believe God is bigger than all our petty theologies. "Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart."

Shining: Your comments on the Bible suggests to me that you haven't really given it careful study. I'm not saying that you're wrong because you're going against it. I'm saying (and I agree with SeanRenaud) that you have to back up your claims. The Old Testament has many instances of God promising a "Messiah" and a "Deliverer." It talks about he who would be born of a virgin, who would be called "Immanuel" or "God With Us". Look carefully before you start your critique.

sean I am not clear if there was a question in your comment or not but I will add here that Jehovah told every parent to kill any child who was ever born that spoke like a prophet or acted like one.  I can furnish the quote but if you have ever read the Bible you should have read it yourself.  Does that sound like he was sending anyone to save the people.  Save them from what ?  It was always about saving them from Jehovah and the "great and terrible day of the lord"  he said,  where he would return and do horrible things to them for not worshipping him  because they refused to follow him anymore.
  • SeanRenaud said on Mar 20, 2007....

Furnish the quote.  I'm not calling you a liar, I'm saying I've read the Bible cover to cover, a number of time but don't recall that quote.  Doesn't mean it isn't there, hell it could be in the middle of numbers where I won't lie I was glossing, the Bible isn't meant to be read in novel format, but I'm also a believer that this whole only reading certain passages is the source of the majority of the confusion people have.

Jesus said X, but there was something before and after it that give clues to what was actually meant savvy?

shiningstar, if you bristle every time you're asked to provide a chapter and verse citation, you're gonna have some serious credibility issues online.

Sean I do so-o-o agree with you.  If people just took four months and for 16 hrs a day did nothing but read the Bible(it takes that long) they would stop picking out words and verses and slinging them around like arrows at each other.  That is why I do stay away as much as possible for quotes.  I too read the Bible from childhood to 40 yrs old but did not find  this or many other verses that I now ofter in soulcast for speculation and discourse.  The only thing that changed was that I allowed my perception to change. I laid down everything I had been taught and asked to receive truth.  I read it as it was written without the taught perception that all Jehovah did was "good"  and the people "wrong".  I lived their lives and felt the horror of living under this god. I found the truth that Jesus gave his life to teach me.It is on page 1189. Page 1194 says that people will grow up(he hopes) to be like "calves in stalls".  Think about what that means.  That is the Jehovah vision for people who belueve in him.

Until we can accept the fact that Jesus was a flesh and blood man who,  in many ways was just like everyone else we can never learn from him.  Religion has set him too far above anyone for them to even try to understand why what he taught woould be important in todays busy world.  All people get out of his life is to worship him.  He could have mailed that lesson in and stayed home because it is the same thing Jehovah said and the same thing all say who want control over people.

I find your belief no different than what millions of other people have been taught by their religion whatever it is. It is your belief and your divine right to believe it.  Peace
