OK.  So my 2 sons and I were getting ready to leave the house to mail off my husbands package.  As usual my nine year old was sitting in his little brothers rocking chair waiting for me to get him ready.  We were all three conversing ( Well as best as the 17 month old can ) when out of the blue
WHAAAAAAAAAAACK...
My 17 month old hits me upside the head with his bottle.
"No No Ant we dont hit"  I tell him.
He looked at me a bit puzzled
Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhack...HE slaps me across the face with his little tiny bare hand.
"No Ant, you dont hit mommy" I try to explain, but before I can finish
Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhack again.
This time in response I slapped him back. HE stopped and looked over at his brother who is laughing hysterically in the chair, looks back at me, starts laughing loudly and
WHHHHHHHHHHHHACK he hits me again
Slap to him..slap to mom...slap to him....
Ok ok....I get up.  Both boys are laughing so hard now I think IM GONNA PEE my pants.
" Ok boys everyone out"  The toddler gets up and tootles out the door with his brother following.  BOth laughing as they run down the hall.
I stood there a minute shaking my head and thinking what in the world do you do
When hiting back doesnt work?

LOL....you quick go to plan B.

but first you have to regain your composure.....

i always reasoned that hitting the kids as punishment wasn't a very good tactic just for the reason that you stumbled upon today.  it's tit for tat when you hit.  the lesson is really lost.

your son is just a baby really....

take his hand and changing the tone of your voice, say 'no no'.  your voice is the key.....you have to sound like the mean mommy...the one who means BUSINESS!

aren't you glad nobody can peek inside your house and see your trials and errors???

LOL!!!!! I actually wish someone would have told me the same thing secret just said. My oldest was 5 when he said "Mommy, why did you slap my brothers hand and tell him not to hit you?" He does that crap to me all the time... I have no idea how to parent but they are the first ones to pick up on what doesn't work! lol

I think it is just hard at that age. He is just learning so much right now that some lessons have to wait for another day. Just have a plan for next time and make it clear that it is unacceptable and tell the older child not to laugh when baby does something wrong because it is not okay.

lol funny story SCW! It reminds me of a Laurel and Hardy routine.
Now here is a good question. What would Ant's reaction been if his brother wasn't laughing? Would he have been fightened, maybe even cried?
He'll learn that lesson soon enough just bask in this funny 1.

My 9 yr. old was a slapper.  I found moving my wackable parts away from him helped.  So does squeezing the hand a bit when saying no.  I know the urge to smack back though.  It didn't work.  Only momentarily makes you feel good.  Boys are difficult to figure out.  I have 3 of my own and they sure keep me on my toes!

It had to happen eventually....
Depressing to lose interest in a beloved series by such a matter after enjoying it immensely all of these years, but leave it to Russell T Davies to throw his beloved fans into a dark ditch. Way to go you tool!...
they sure are fun!...
Guess who called me for the first time during my lunch time? Yeah, he did. I was at the drive through getting ready to buy my mini hot fudge cake. I've found you can eat those only for lunch and actually lose weight. I normally call him after I've h...
