I've just finished watching American Idol Top 12 competition.  It was Diana Ross week and the contestants had to choose a Diana Ross original and interpret it as their own.  I was  particularly impressed with the song choice of Jordin Sparks; last but not the least finalist who performed in the show.  Her specific choice of song was If We Hold On Together.  As was pointed out by Ryan Seacrest in his intro, this was the theme music of the animated movie "Land Before Time".

So I did a little research on this very meaningful and soul inspiring song.  The words and music of this classic song was written by James Horner and Will Jennings, who by the way was also responsible for the production of another huge Celine Dion hit My Heart Will Go On, the Titanic movie theme.

Here is a link If We Hold On Together with a music only arrangement where you can sing along with the inspiring and uplifting lyrics:

Don't lose your way
With each passing day

You've come so far,
Don't throw it away

Live believing,
Dreams are for weaving

Wonders are waiting to start
Live your story,
Faith hope and glory

Hold to the truth in your heart

If we hold on together
I know our dreams will never die
Dreams see us through to forever
Where clouds roll by, for you and I

Souls in the wind
Must learn how to bend

Seek out a star,
Hold on till the end

Valley, mountain,
There is a fountain

Washes our tears all away
Worlds are swaying,
Someone is praying

Please let us come home to stay

If we hold on together
I know our dreams will never die
Dreams see us through to forever
Where clouds roll by, for you and I

When we are out there in the dark
We'll dream about the sun
In the dark, we'll feel the light
Warm our hearts … Everyone

If we hold on together
I know our dreams will never die
Dreams see us through to forever
As high as souls can fly
The clouds roll by, for you and I

This is another classic masterpiece that can make a good life support theme song for anyone who feels depressed and is losing hope.  It reminds us that the weapons to counter desperation and depression are the God given gifts of faith, hope, perseverance and the power of prayer.

That tomorrow is a better day than today, that life was meant to be lived for a positive and better purpose.  In our journey of life, we sometimes lose our way, forget our very purpose of existence.  I think the greatest asset we can attain in life is the truth which we all cherish and hold dearly in our hearts.

For if we are able to define and uphold the truth in our hearts, it will set us free from deviations and obstacles to better guide us towards the right path of our journey.  Dreams are visions of a better world, a manifestation of our hopes that will see us through to the things we aspire for.  To dream is the most important ability we should cultivate.  More important than material wealth, dreams define our purpose, our ultimate objective.  Wealth may be lost or stolen, but never ever let your dreams fade or die.

The uplifting melodious music combined with the inspiring lyrics soulfully sung by Diana Ross sets the score by which we should live our life, a life filled with faith and hope, based on truth, tempered by perseverance and guided by prayer

So snap yourself out of that depression and feeling of hopelessness because the journey of life isn't over, till this theme music of your life is over.  Live believing, Dreams are for weaving, Wonders are waiting to start.

God Bless You!

BTW, Jordin Spark's interpretation of If We Hold On Together in American Idol was quite refreshing with excellent vocals and professional style delivery making her the third favorite choice of the AI judges next to Melinda and Lekisha.

More interesting tidbits about Will Jennings:

Will Jennings along with Thom Bell, Mac Davis, Sylvia Moy and Henry Cosby were inducted into the 37th Annual Induction and Awards Ceremony of The Songwriters Hall Of Fame which was held last June 15, 2006 at the Marriot Marquis in New York City.

Here is a link to the more impressive songwriting credentials of Will Jenning's which include hits such as Higher Love with Stevie Winwood, Tears in Heaven with Eric Clapton,; Barry Manilow's Looks Like We Made It and Somewhere In The Night; Dionne Warwick's I'll Never Love This Way Again co-written with Richard Kerr and the most impressive song My Heart Will Go On collaborated with James Horner which earned them a Golden Globe and a Grammy Award for the Best Song from a motion picture.

Bollywood film music is called bollywood music. Songs from Bollywood movies are generally pre-recorded by professional playback singers, with the actors then lip synching the words to the song on-screen, often while dancing....
For those of you who are not familar with Native American music, I suggest you give it a listen. The music can be very relaxing and meditative. The best Native American flute performer out there (and who I encourage you to listen to) is R. Carlos Nakai....

NOT this morning.... a very large box arrived... with a very big surprise in it....
In 1971, when I was 11 years old, I got my first record player for Christmas.

It was a BIG deal that record player.
It could play both 78 and 45 format records (for the 45's you needed to add a little doo-hickey).
