An advertisement slogan I saw on my way back today sets me thinking.

"When was the last time you did something for the first time?"

I was actually stump by the question!

I was thinking along the lines of "live changing" events or spectacular experiences to last a lifetime.  Live changing event like witnessing live birth of my son, back in the year 2003, would rank as one of the closest i could think of.

So "when was the last time you did something for the first time?", something spectacular (e.g. sky-diving, bungee jumping), something live changing (e.g. organ transplant, adopting a child).

the last time was last week when after a night of drinking i was actually on time to work. :D

but more seriously, i'd have to think about this a bit...there are a couple of things that rate.

Almost exactly one year ago I took photos at the birth of my best friends first child.  I'd never seen a baby born before so this was not only exciting because of that but it was my best friend and I'd been with her since the day she'd found out about this exciting news.  Holding her hand every step of the way.  Then I got to  be the photographer of the entire thing.  Taking photos of his very first precious breaths.

It changed me.  Deep down in my soul changed me.  I will always cherish those hours I spent with her during that time.  It's a gift she gave to me very graciously.  She shared that new life with me and I am forever blessed to know him.

    SW, you weren't drunk enough!

missunderstood, your comment brought back memories of the birth of my children.  It was an emotional roller-coaster ride throughout the whole process, from time the waterbag broke, to the anxious waiting besides the wife during labour to the climatic surge of emotions when you see your child's face for the very first time.  That entire experience is simply PRICELESS!

i think i probably wasn't! :> in all seriousness though, i think the last time i did something for the first time, my wife got me a birthday present: time in a sailplane. that was absolutely amazing. the pilot did some aerobatics, which cut down on our time in the air but was completely worth it!
