afmæli mömmu

We had a good day with mamma. I brought the big cake for 20 people and roses. We all sang songs and then we had the coffee and cakes.
After mammas party we went to another one. A young friend of mine Melanie, my best friendas x daughter  in law held a party for her two girls ,Emma who is 2 and Viktoria who will be 7 in few day. I took mamma with me and we had much fun.  My grandchildren were there too with their mum. I took the children home and mum too after that party.
By the way I could not get connect to SC for a long time. Was something wrong. Does anybody know.

Skald, that cake looks great - Maria did an amazing job - you can tell her that from me.  Does "ara" mean "years"?  In Afrikaans we say "jare" for "years".

So you had two parties today? That is stunning!  I'm so happy for your mother to have reached this age - you are blessed to still have her.  She looks in very good health.

I was panic stricken when SC was off for the longest time today. . .they must have been working on the site or something.

Daily. Thanks. Do you know if this has happened before. I mean that SC is cut off?
  • skald said on Mar 11, 2007....
Polar . After I wrote this I saw your comment. ára means  years you are right. Jare is like in German Jahre. These languages are all related. Did you learn African first or English? ♥♥♥
  • polarheart said on Mar 11, 2007....
Skald - yes, the pronounciation is like the German - a lot of the Afrikaans words are similar to German and Dutch.  Both my parents came from Afrikaans families, but could speak both languages.  Before I started going to school my dad had a house built for us just across from an English school; so that's were I ended up going.  All my schooling and studies have been in English.  For the longest time English and Afrikaans were taught as first and second languages in the schools and were compulsory right up to the end of your school years.  Most white South Africans can speak and understand both languages.  South Africa now has 11 or 12 official languages, because all the black ethnic group languages were added to the list.  (Sorry to bore you with this)

Polarheart. You are not boring me. No, I´m really interested. I think you benefit a. having two languages. Can you understand some of  the other languages. that the black people speak ? ♥♥♥

That's a beautiful cake, skald! Your mother's a great grandmother! Does she enjoy her greatgrandchildren? Glad you had fun.

I couldn't get on SC either this afternoon.  Good thing I had some errands to do.  Otherwise it would have been aggravating.

  • polarheart said on Mar 11, 2007....
Skald, sadly I do not understand the black languages, but I do know of the greeting terms in some of them, this is "hello": "dumela" is Xhosa, "sawobona" is Sotho (I know the words are right, but I'm no sure if I have the right languages linked).  Both my parents could speak and understand Zulu, because they grew up on farms and could communicate with the workers who were mainly Zulu where they were living.  And they could also speak "Fanagalo", which was a hybrid language created by the Black people working on the gold and diamond mines so that they could understand each other.

Polar. I do think you could blog about your parents experiences, if you know of them. I find this most interesting that they could speak and understand these languages. ♥♥♥

Skald:  I recall a while back when SC was down for what felt like an entire weekend.  That was quite some time ago now.

Skald!   What a beautifully decorated cake!  Your mom looks very much like my Aunt florence.  Tall, slender with glowing white hair.

Oh it all looks wonderful, can I have a piece of cake please?  Your Mother looks so sweet and young for 85.  I did take a peak at your other pictures, hope you don't mind.  I loved the pictures of the outside, and the children made me smile.  There is a boy there that seems to be a little bit of a ham. :)

    botoni. Thanks
    mom.
here is a piece of the cake. You just have to imagine it. You would have been welcome to it. I don't mind you looking at the other pictures of course. My English is limited to what you mean that the boy looks a little bit of a ham. :-)

    Yummy, the cake is delicious!!!!!!!!!!
LOL Skald, I thought about that when I first wrote it, I thought, "I hope she doesn't think I would want to eat him."  A ham might be someone who is a clown, or comical,  I got a chuckle at his expression in front of the camera. :)
  • skald said on Mar 13, 2007....
mom I wish I could send you a piece of the cake.
I just thought you might mean comical but I did not know. I asked  my son who's English is also good but he did not know either.
Yes, little Þór (Thor) my grandson is a clown and a  comedian.  Not that we let him know it.
Thanks now I have learned something new. ♥♥♥
