I can't sleep without a blanket.

I can sleep on a hard, cold floor but not without a blanket.
I can sleep without any pillow and clothes but not without a blanket.
I can sleep indoors while the sun is scorching hot, in the middle of the day, without any electri fan, but not without a blanket.

I simply can't sleep without a blanket. Some people might think it has something to do with lack of self-esteem, which I doubt, but I don't care. I just can't sleep without a blanket :)

One of my officemates, when we went out of town for a seminar, went all over the marketplace of Davao looking for a net bag, it was the closest she could get as a replacement for a mosquito net, for she can't sleep without wrapping her feet in the net and rubbing it against the blanket for her to sleep.

My hubby won't sleep without hugging one of the pillows, so if he sleeps with me in his arms, the pillows in between us :)

So, is there anything that you have to do or hold to get to sleep?

Do you need to drink a glass of milk, have a shot of martini, get your head knocked, sex, anything, before you go to sleep?

I can't fall asleep in the total quiet. I have headphones so I don't disturb my husband, and I need either music or the TV on low to help me fall asleep. When B's not here, I also keep a night light on. I don't like the dark.

I can't sleep without another pillow for a "dantayan" [pillow where I keep between my legs]. I think its a fixation of some sort. I don't actually know.

I can't sleep without my blanket either. I feel a little naked without it. I sleep in short shorts and sando, but its necessary that I've got a blanket. Before I can't sleep with Mr. Fluffy at my arms {{an old pink teddy}}. Thank goodness I've outgrown it!

Yani.....I always sleep holding something.......I m so glad my 'something' is attached!

Hmmm.....your work mate needed a mosquito net to sleep....so did my ex.  Is this somekind of obsession created in the Phils?
  • yani said on Mar 04, 2007....

MissMimi my mom can't sleep without a night light on, claims she gets suffocated in the dark. Like she's drowning in the dark.

Dazed bakit ka depressed? kagaya ka ng husband ko, walang tandayan, walang tulog:)

Botoni, I guess it has something to do with the fact that most of us, who grew up middle class, always sleeps inside the net, otherwise the mosquitoes will carry us :)

yani- I can sleep under any conditions at night so long as its not hot. Luckily my wife is the same. We sleep with a fan blowing over us in the winter.
  • dazed_and_confused said on Mar 04, 2007....
Actually yani, I'm okay now. I just want to kick someone's butt here. He made me worry. Do you believe it, I actually almost cried for that guy. Oh no, does it mean that I feel something towards him.... noooo... Oh you can read all about it in my latest post. I'm okay now.

I remember my ex telling me that I should make him my dantayan because we both need the extra pillow, we used to sleep together back in college {{wink, its literally sleeping ayt! LOL}}. Haller! How can I make him my dantayan, he's huge, and I'll probably crack my shorts if I do that LOL.

Hehe, you sound like my boyfriend. No matter what, he cannot sleep without a blanket.

As for me, I can't sleep without my tv on as I fall asleep. I used to be extremely afraid of the dark and used to have a lamp on all night. But when I reached the age of about 18 or so, I started to just leave my tv on, setting it on timer for about an hour. And ever since, I have to have my tv on while I fall asleep. That, and my teddy bear.

Unless I'm at The Boyfriend's, then what I need changes. I don't need the tv to be on, but I do need him to snuggle with. : )

  • dazed_and_confused said on Mar 05, 2007....
    hi petite!

My sister is like that. She doesn't want to sleep without the tv turned on. I don't really know why. Every night she sets the timer. Though I doubt that she is afraid of the dark. My best guess is that she needs some noise/sounds in the environment when she is going to sleep.

I remember a time when I turned off the tv, that she stirred and asked me to turn it on again, and to think that I thought she was sleeping!

    Cheers!

I can't sleep with the music playing.  I can fall asleep to the tv.  I have to have a blanket close in case I get cold.  If it is Humid, forget it.  I can't sleep on a hard surface, and if my daughter or my dog takes a nap with me and we are cuddled, I can sleep the sleep of the beautiful people.  I also have to have a pillow.
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 05, 2007....
i need quiet and darkness to sleep, but the mrs likes to have a little background light or noise, so we compromised: she has a reading light that attaches to her book.

Yani, I have become terrible with sleep!  Ever since I became a mother I just cant switch off all that easily.  I cannot sleep unless I am totally exhausted!  I need to get to a point where I cannot keep my eyes open before going to bed, otherwise I will just lie there and toss and turn.  I am also still working on a pillow solution.  I wish I could go into sleep therapy for a week. . .I am sure I'd feel better.  Dont know when last I felt completely rested.

Yani........i can't sleep when i hear people talking and laughing outside....i can stand the traffic but not the obnoxious, stupid, rude people who cant care less about other people's right to sleep at night. It drives me nuts.

Beside that i can't  sleep if my feet are cold....i have to wear socks sometimes... also, i can't sleep naked.......i have to have at least a camisole or a t shirt on...my shoulder needs to be covered. A blanket or a sheet is a must...:-)

  • queenparanoia said on Mar 05, 2007....

I can't sleep without some sort of white noise, usually a fan. I have to have an extra pillow to put between my knees when I sleep on my side because I can't stand for my knees to touch. And I also can't sleep without a top sheet and at least a comforter, even in the summer.
  • allaroundgirl said on Mar 05, 2007....

For me its one of two. I must have either a pillow between my legs or a pillow to hug. I've slept quite nicely with both I cannot sleep if I have neither.  :)

  • secretlife said on Mar 05, 2007....
i can sleep anywhere.  one thing i'm good at is sleep.
  • gingersoul said on Mar 05, 2007....

Queen....lol...my daughter is like you...i have to shut the closet and all the drawers in her room or she doesnt fall asleep....:-)

Secret...can you sleep on the airplanes too?

The most i can do on a flight is dozing off for maybe 15 minutes, waking up and dozing off again...imagine doing this when i fly home!......i slept really heavy on a plane only once.....years ago ..between New York and Dallas.....i had two seats all for me and the plane was almost empty.....smooth fly too..i slept like a baby...:-)

I can't sleep without my white noise machine and the TV to help me fall asleep.

My Husband also hugs a pillow.  He's good at sweating all night long so I am constantly washing 'the' pillow and pillow case.  Thankfully, he needs the TV and white noise machine too!

I can't sleep in a hot room either and I have to have something over me. I don't care if I kick it off during the night, as long as it is over me when I fall asleep!

My husband can't sleep without a fan going for the noise. It drives me insane but it's better than him tossing and turning!

    Yani,

I cant sleep on my back, need to be on my side or in the recovery position :-) Probably adapted from years of excess. I cant sleep unless I can see the sky and feel the night air. I have to fold a corner of the curtains back and weight them down to the cill to let air in and let me see out. A fear of mine is to die without having access to the skies I need to see the stars. I also cant get off if my feet are covered up, I need to be exposed upto at least my knees and I cant sleep in any kind of clothing, I wake and freak but I'm not conciously claustrophobic. I also like noise to put me away, not over keen on total silence :-D
  • yani said on Mar 05, 2007....

Beyond - " a fan blowing over us in winter " oh my! I can't sleep with the fan on, even on a hot summer day, when I take my siesta, I won't turn the fan on. And I still have to have a blanket, I sweat profusely but I sleep.

Petite - hehehe you're essentials changed when at the boyfriend's, quite understandably :), afraid of the dark, too huh.

Mom - me too, I need silence otherwise, i keep on waking. Even the tiniest noise from the tv will keep me awake.

SW - finally! a comment from you :) thank you for subscribing. You know, I danced the day you subscribed :) been waiting for it.

Polar - motherhood tends to wrecked our sleeping patterns, I hope yours will improve as time goes on :) toodles!

    mommyof2 - you're just like me!

Ginger - some people are so inconsiderate. Ii live in a neighborhood where people love to do videoke at night, they won't stop until almost midnight at times, and it drives me crazy. I threatened the hubby that one day i will spray those people's houses with rocks. The thought makes him shakes his head.

Queen - it's the first time I heard of this :) hehehe I heard of people not being able to sleep without checking on doors but drawers? you're unique! muah!

Eilan - welcome to my blog!  :)  how are you?

Allaroundgirl - just like my husband :)

SL - anywhere? wow! I have a cousin who can sleep anywhere too. We'll have a family gathering and we'll always find her slump on a chair half falling off but still asleep lol I can't sleep on a plane, afraid that something might happen.

Daily - it's only now that I've learn the term "white noise" hmmmmm  :)

    CW & moms - hi!

22Dec - you sleep naked? what happens if there are no stars during the night? camping must feel like a vacation to you, to sleep under the night sky  :) right?

  • bloc said on Mar 05, 2007....
I'm one of those lucky people that can pretty much sleep anywhere. This doesn't mean that I want to :)

Maybe it is from my Army experience.
  • botoni said on Mar 05, 2007....
My friend cannot go to sleep if the toss cushions on her sofa are not in perfect order.
  • Lioness said on Mar 05, 2007....
Like you, I could not sleep without a blanket, or anything that would at least give me "protection". It doesn't matter if the fan or aircon is off or on, just give me a blanket or a malong, and I am off to dreamland. And please... keep all noises to a minimum. =)
  • boyzmom said on Mar 05, 2007....

I like to have a blanket also or at least a sheet, and a pillow. Sometimes I sleep with my foot uncovered but not always. I like quiet when I sleep. Could not under any conditions have the fan blowing on me!

My youngest son likes to sleep with a blanket even if it makes him sweat, drives me nuts. Would rather not wear clothes to bed. Also does not like the fan.

My older son prefers to be uncovered most of the time and likes his comfy pajamas. Asks me why I turned off the fan before bedtime.

  • yani said on Mar 05, 2007....

    Lucky you Bloc :)

Botoni -  me thinks your friend is a little crazy hehe

Lioness - hmmmm "protection", now you're making me think.........

Boyzmom -  i don't like the fan. I just feel cold when the fan is on, even when I'm covered from head to toe. no explanation there.

  • queenparanoia said on Mar 05, 2007....

yani ang ginger: the reason i couldn't sleep with cabinets and drawers are open is because i'm scared something scary may cam out of it. kinda stupid since i'm an adult now...

    but still i couldn't sleep!!!

  • petitepapillon said on Mar 06, 2007....

Yani~ Yup, definitely afraid of the dark. Have been since I was a little kid. And if I wake up in the middle of the night, I automatically turn my tv back on and set it on timer to go off just so I can go back to sleep. I guess it's just something I'm never going to really outgrow, but that's okay. : )

My conditions to have a good sleep..

** Don't put in my mind "I couldn't sleep" because surely I barely can sleep.

I can sleep anywhere when I want to sleep. I once slept on a drill field, under the shining stars.. but once my brain thinks.. "Could not sleep", how sleepy I was that time, I cannot sleep at all.

** Don't force myself to sleep..

Let's say tomorrow I need to do something important. So I told myself, I need to sleep early because I'm worried I couldn't wake up for the important thing if I slept late. In the end, I ended up sleeping more than an hour after that! Damnnn.. why should I wasted my time on the bed doing nothing except waiting to go to dreamland?

But now.. I need to sleepppppp!! I'm tired! I miss the time when I slept almost 12 hours everyday! Miss you Mr. Sleep! Miss you my dreamland! :'(
  • moonriver said on Mar 06, 2007....
like secret and bloc, i can sleep anywhere, anytime. even outdoors in inclement weather. BUT... the ideal sleeping conditions for me are: dark and quiet room, thin mat and pillow, and minimal cover (naked under blanket is best for me). oh, and the woman i love snuggling me all night, every which way but loose -- if it comes to that... lol.

  • yani said on Mar 06, 2007....

NO Queen, it's not stupid :) by all means close them, if that is what it takes.

    Yep Petite! It's ok :)

lol D-Learner, once I was trying to sleep early too for an important appointment, turned out I hardly slept at all. I kept checking my watch for fear tha I might oversleep and miss the appointment. I looked so bad during that interview :)

Moonriver , cuddling doesn't help me to sleep more, I tend to end sleepless that way. I feels so good that sleeping doesn't come to mind hehehe
