Whether at work, in a game, in school, or at home, we all have this wonderful feeling of triumph. You tell yourself: "this is it!". YOUR shining moment.

They say that we don't have to dwell in the past. But then, don't you agree with me when I say that our "shining moments" are worth remembering, even for a while? It makes us feel good deep inside, makes us realize that we can excel in certain things, that we are good.

My shining moment was when about 3 years ago, I was asked to become an emcee for a very big affair. The boss wanted it to become ala-awards night. So to make sure, I made a script for me and my partner, a radio station manager. I practiced and prepared well. There were some hindrances and criticisms.  I made sure the expectations were met, I gave my best.Fortunately, the outcome was awesome. Everyone was pleased. I received accolades after. I felt like floating in mid-air. It felt so good.

I am smiling while writing this.

Now, would you care to share your shining moment??

I ALMOST had a moment when I was in dance...very long ago.
I was supposed to have my moment to shine with a solo dance in the recital, just me up front, with back up dancers.

However, I broke my damn foot in dance class and watched the show from the audience.  They mentioned my name and some chick Monique from another class learned my solo, borrowed my costume and had her shining moment...what a total bitch, lmao!

I'm still trying to think of an actual moment...damn!  LMAO!

LOL, I know why!!! She didn't return the costume!
  • dailyachesandpains said on Mar 03, 2007....
Unfortunately, she did.  That could really be the reason.  Eawie, what if she didn't wash it?  I still have it and little D's played dress-up in it!  I sense an OCD moment coming on...crap!  lol
  • Lioness said on Mar 03, 2007....

I am always impressed when I read of someone  being able to do what you did Lioness,  it takes courage.  I would rather carve my face off with a rusty butter knife than to perform in front of people.

I have a lot of shining moments, but for me the shining moments isn't so much about my claim to fame as much as it is that I just feel good.  When someone tells me that I made them laugh, I like that.

Daily- I have learned that sometimes our shining moments aren't what we see sometimes but what others see.  I see you as a very loving mother and able to laugh at life and take things in stride.  I see you as someone who reaches out to others because she truly cares.  You are not a person that does things just so you will be liked, but because you are sincere. To me that is shining and someday when your daughter is older she will tell you that you are her hero.  I also see you as someone who accepts people for who they are but doesn't hold herself to the same standard.  I just know you would have knocked their socks off in the dance and I am sure you would have been so much better than the little bitch that stole your part.

i've had a good number of wins like that, but the ones that mean the most to me are the personal ones: the complete surprise on her face when i finally popped the question.

lioness- I have many shining moments because there are no really big ones. If there are no big ones, we get to consentrate on the smallies.

In my senior year in high school we had to do a research paper for english and report on it orally. It was the first semester and my teacher liked the oral part so much, he said if I would give the oral to his other classes he would give me an A for the year, just show up for class.

It was fun doing it, then I got to glide for the year.

    i'm laughing at daily again!
only YOU could break your foot and miss the shining moment!

beyond reminded me of one from long ago...

i was a senior in college and in a History of Film class.  It was held in a huge amphitheater and there had to be over 100 kids in the class....

the professor was handing back our first exam.

he was going on and on about how one paper was the best paper he'd seen in all his year's teaching....i was only giving him 1/2 my ear, but he was going on and on, and then walking up the stairs, coming closer and closer to me....still talking, until he's standing next to my row (and i'm in the end seat)....and then he was talking but looking at me...and smiling and handing the paper to me!  A+....

    boy that felt awfully good!

The first one that comes to mind is convocation day when I received my Chartered Accountant's designation. Both my parents and my teenage sons were there. It was especially sweet because I had sacrificed and won...moved my family back to my hometown, worked full time while taking courses for 2 1/2 years, passed all of the exams, and volunteered my 'spare' time as president of the CA student association in my province...all while starting 15 years later than those who do it right out of university. Was a good day.

but shining moments don't have to be so grand or in the public eye.

I can get a shining moment watching one of my sons...sometimes this huge feeling of pride comes over me...seeing what a good Dad he is...or how he's making his marriage work...or how he's juggling work, family, and doing his MBA part-time. Mostly it's pride in him...but when I stop and think about it...it is a tiny shining moment to me as a single Mom.

Then there is the shining moment when my other son gives me a big hug and welcomes me into the home he's purchased with his wife...that they've decorated and made comfortable...how with pride they show me how they've decorated the nursery for their first child...my grandchild to be.

I guess you could say my sons and their families are some of my shining moments. Usually I just enjoy...but sometimes I step back and give myself a little bit of the credit.
  • gingersoul said on Mar 03, 2007....

Lio.........i can say i have had a pretty good share of shining public moments up to now.......so i am quite satisfied with myself....

The biggest one could be when i have been promoted and put in charge of the editing office of my newspaper in Italy: i had 10 collaborators who were referring to me, i was the one assigning their reporter duties, designing the layout of the 4 pages of our edition, checking the quality of each article and closing the edition at night with any eventual breaking news. It felt dam good ...

Another shining moments has been how i manage to sell my house all by myself (naturally working the agent) and managing to handle 7 garage sales in a row to sell all my belongings, pack everything and move in an apartment, finalizing my divorce without missing one single day at work or ever being late ......my boss praised me for my professionality in never let my personal trouble intrude in my job....i have been very proud of myself.....even though at that moment i was living like in apnea...

But my daughter and all her achievments in school and social life are the best shining moments of all...:-)

When I was in high school, I directed a fashion show through one of the groups I belonged to.  I was in charge of the whole thing.  I must say it went over very well because I was offered a weekend job at a local clothing shop.  I had borrowed prom dresses from the owner for the show and then invited her.  She said I had a wonderful sense of style.

Looking back, I'm kind of proud of that.

Lioness I seem to get a lot of shining moments, more so in satifactions of making an accomplishment or hitting a new plataeu <- however you spell that.

The personal ones amongst friends usually the fewer but when they come those  do seem the best.  What's funny there is they usually have to come over and drag me out of the house as I stay in continuous study. Since wife out in CA for months keeps me out of trouble.

    Have a great one.

  • Mjedi said on Mar 04, 2007....
Hope I didn't leave you speechless or somthing? See looky there I mispelled satisfactions in that.

If too some part of that sounds like bragging it's actually not. Believe almost
anyone who stays in a near constant state of study in any particular area would get the same type results for their efforts.

It's not neccessarily as important for others as it is for your own self to make achievements or progress in whatever it is you like.

    Have a good day.

    hi! :D

Shining moments? Well, one shining moment was when I graduated the valedictorian of our class back in the days and delivered the valedictory speech. I felt that everybody was proud of me, my teachers, my parents, my family, and my friends. That was one of the shining moments I've had, and that was one of the most memorable ones too, thank goodness I didn't cry during my speech.

    Have a shining day! :D

Mom: lol. carving one’s face in a rusty butter knife! That is toooo much!!  You are making almost everybody in SC laugh mom, I am one of those whose days you brighten up by your wit.

Ed: I agree with queen, that is so sweet. They say that if you love someone dearly, you notice every small expression. True isn't it? How long has it been??

Beyond: It does not matter if it is small or big, as long as it made you feel good and proud. Wow, not everybody have a gift on oral presentations!! I bet you became an instant celebrity. =)

Queen: I’ve read that post and your insights, nice one. You stuck to your diet, exercised and lost 3 lbs? Wow girl, way to go!

Secret:  Oh wow!! That is worth cherishing indeed!! That teacher has a sure way of making surprises!

Now you made me remember one of mine in school too. Our midterm exam was take home, and when the time to submit came, I left it in my house because I got so busy at work. I had no choice but to do it in school, rushing and all. When the results came, oh my, I was surprised to get the highest score.

Sweetsoul: Your family must be very proud of you, not everybody could do that!
Your children-- that you see how well you have reared and let them grow into independent and responsible individuals is indeed a great pride. It’s not bad to take some of the credits you rightfully deserve. =)

Ginger: wow, you are a tough and strong woman!! When you love what you are doing, you’d get the best out of it. Amazing, your personal problems did not interfere with your work, professional indeed! Ohh... darling daughter, yes of course...

Aristotle: welcome to my blog! Thanks, it was one hell of a moment that keeps me wanting to excel in emceeing or public speaking. Oh common, sure  you have, don’t be shy, this is the time to let us know.

CW: a fashion show director at an early age? Isn’t that fabulous? Wow CW, you are one in a million!

jen01: Thanks for reading! Come on, spill it all out, I am waiting and excited  to read all about it. =)

Mjedi: real, true friends and having achieved things educationally are indeed some of the things to be proud of.  Bragging? Well, I guess that is what I want to hear, people telling me and the rest about what they are proud of. =) A moment may be shining for you and not for others, but hey, if it made you feel good inside and proud, that is priceless..

Dazed: Having topped the class is in itself a shining moment. Wow, I know you made yourself and your family proud!!

    *looking around for daily* =)

Hmmm.. you are right.. perhaps I believe too much in what other's say that marriage is only exciting/fun in the first 6 years and becomes more difficult in the succeeding ones, on something to that sort.
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 07, 2007....
that may have something to do w/ the difficulties of working on a relationship while also raising a child.

    ed
  • Lioness said on Mar 07, 2007....
Come to think of it.. I agree with you ed. Making adjustments and rearing children isn't very easy.
