Well.......i am very happy...materialistically talking.

Because i have a new car.

My Nissas Altima's lease was going to expire next month so yesterday i spent half of the day at the car dealer getting home with a brand new jet black Nissan Versa. A little jewel...lol...

I will have to bring lasagna to the car dealer guy next time i comeback for my tag  though....i promised it ....its a good price to pay for his royal treatment.....or was it a completely different kind of  treatment?...lol....I mean, at one point he was introducing me to everybody......the general manager, his coworkers, the service and repair manager, even the guy who washed the cars.......:-)

I think he had a instant liking on me...our daughters have the same age and went to the same school last year, we talked about Jane Austen and Harry Potter and slightly even about spirituality while we were test driving some cars......that ..or my sexy exotic accent must have done it...lol...

When i went back after picking my daughter at school, she got to pick the color......i was going for a red (even though i already had two red cars: a Jeep and a Peugeot 205)  or blue (no blue car yet)......but she told me that red was too flashy, almost clownish, too bright....wth?

Really, i felt like i was the kid there......the car dealer guy was laughing his head out... I am telling you....she is a 30 yrs old woman in the boyd of a 12.

But we are happy: she got her color and love the new car and i got  this problem off  my shoulder.

And you: which car are you driving?

The car i think i really still love the most has been a Mazda coupe', a sport car, muddy color, fast, shining and sleek. We drove her for 17 states from Florida to New York to ship her to Italy soon after we got married . Still the best road trip of my life.

And you: which car is still in your heart even after all these years?

what I drive is a sensible boring sedan-- a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina.
What I want is a flashy red convertible, but not just any convertible. I want one of those great big Cadillac convertibles with the fins. I want people to drool with envy when I drive by. LOL I've wanted a convertible my whole life.

At Christmas one year, my sister-in-law asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I said without hesitation a convertible. When I opened her gift to me, there it was-- a shiny red convertible Matchbox car! It was my favorite gift that year.

congrats on the new car, GS!

my first car, a saturn SL2, lasted me a long, long time--almost 180k miles, IIRC. that died b/c the transmission was starting to go, but it was awfully reliable. i have some great memories, like making sure that the first CD to play in the stereo was born to run--it had to be broken in properly, after all--or schlepping my sister to/from various places, driving it to meet my then-girlfriend (now wife) every tuesday & friday night...

i hated to let her go...i still miss roxie now & then...

LOL... I haven't driven a car in 5 years!  I've had 2 Honda Civics, 1 Honda Accord, 1 Toyota Celica, and 1 Subaru RX.  I liked the Hondas very, very much, and would probably get one again, but i LOVED my Subaru.  It was a racy, little steel grey hatchback, limited edition (only 3000 made for each of the three years that it was produced)... It was aerodynamic, low to the ground with road hugger tires, four wheel drive, turbo-charged engine,  tilt steering, cruise control, air conditioning, adjustable lumbar support, a tape deck, and it just felt good to drive.  I got it when I first moved to Colorado, and it was the best thing for exploring the mountains on those dirt and gravel roads.  When it was running well, it was awesome, but when it broke down, the parts were outrageously expensive.  The transmission finally went and i had to put her down.  Poor thing.  I miss her still.

see?  i told you this car thing would work out!  who needs a job when they have your charm and can make a mean lasagna!!! lol!

i'm glad that's off your shoulders ginger.

good luck with it.  if i were there i'd throw a handful of coins in the back seat for luck.  has anyone every done that to one of your new cars before?

my last three vehicles have been mini-vans.  dodge, dodge, chystler....i think they're all pretty much the same company....

the one i have now is much more fancy than my last two.  this one has leather bucket seats, a navigation system, sun roof, automatic doors....but it's still a mini van.

i've actually gotten quite attached to this type of vehicle, although i'll say it's on the boring side....

my favorite car was one i had when i graduated college.....it was a 1969 pontiac lemans...blue with a soft black roof and that baby could FLY.

i drove a nissan sentra after that.  it was my first new car!  and it was black.

my dream car is a convertable....i think a little yellow one....pale yellow.

I´m driving a Renualt now. We have two of them. My husband drives the old one, about 8 years old and I have the 2 years old one. They are both Laguna.
Our first car was a Saab. We sold it when we bought our first apartment. Cars I remember way back are Dodge, Rambler, Skoda, Toyota. All kinds.

Congrats, GS. There's almost nothing quite as sexy as driving a new car. The smell, the romance of learning what all the buttons do, the mystery of finding the little switch that opens the trunk.

I'm a boring old white guy: I drive a Honda Accord. Now, it's a V6 coupe with all the luxury touches that Honda made available, but it's still a Honda. If I had my druthers I'd be driving a Porsche but that's more than a few new clients away.

I'm a cheapo and still drive my 10 year old nissan sentra. However I very much want a blue mini cooper with racing stripes and white rims :)

I'd also love love love an audi TT but I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much on a car.

    @ginger
I think we both love nissan's :) My wife also has a nissan (a newer altima)

GINGER, so happy for you!!! :¬))))

I wish I could have a brand new car, just once in my life.  The cars I've had have always been 2nd hand.  Currently driving a Nissan Primera - an old one, but its comfortable.

My car means a lot to me!  It was about a year and a bit before I got a car here in the UK, it was tough times for me without a car.  Now I know that when the house gets too much for me and Tigger in winter we can at least drive somewhere.  Its no fun lugging a toddler around on public transport.

I drive a 2006 Ford Taurus.  I never cared about cars, if it got me from  A-B I was happy.  My husband has a 1965 Shelby cobra and I have not ridden in it yet cause I don't care about it.  I do go gaga over motorcycles though, preferrably choppers.
  • moonriver said on Mar 01, 2007....
ginger -- jet-black huh. nice color, reminds me of my favorite stealth getup. is your daughter by any chance a wannabe ninja? lol. i never did own any car, except an old 4wd jeep hand-me-down that i wore out until it was almost literally held together by chewing gum and baling wire heh. i drove mostly small trucks and auv's. after a "life-changing incident" 15 years ago, have always preferred public rides, bikes, long hikes... and hitching where available. in my dreams, though, i'd like to have a humv, in screaming lemon yellow with a mean black stripe right down the middle.

  • gingersoul said on Mar 01, 2007....

Mimi...oh. sexy red convertible...you are a tiger, girl!....lol....There is nothing like driving at night with the roof or windows down.....warm wind in your face, your hair flying around and that power underneath your butt.....lol...maybe singing a song on top of your lung........i need to drive this way again....:-0

Your sister has a great sense of humour..lol..

SW....Roxie...that's a cool name for a car.....my daughter named this one, Veela. Dont' ask me why.........If you think we spend so much time in these cars..they become part of us like homes...i am not into any decoration for my cars.....you will never see anything hanging from the mirror o any stickers but they are our little homes on 4 wheel after all...lol..

Kruu..... i have no idea how a Subaru RX looks like...but it sound coool....i had anotherr car that i loved ..it was a silver Mini Mirror, great English car...second hand from my brother..i drove it till it died ..literally...in the middle of the intersection...a white and grey cloud of steam coming from the engine..no way to save her...lol....God Save the Mini Mirror...

Secret.... ..lol.....nah....it must have been the lasagna more than my charm....lol.........i never knew about this habit of throwing coins in the back of new cars....i surely hope this one will be luckier than the Altima......i had 4 accidents in 2 years with her...one pretty scary too...a 18 wheeler truck crashed against my driver side....and i was almost still....no nice at all......

  • momsrock said on Mar 01, 2007....

Oh ginger I'm so happy for you! I can see you in black!! lol

I have two at the moment... a dark blue durango and a dark green pontiac grand prix. The grand prix is what I drive 90% of the time because it is so much cheaper. I only need gas 1/week compared to 1/day!

My dream car is a black dodge nitro... but I don't like to buy cars the first year out... i like to let them get the quirks out. :)

Bloc.....this is my 4th Nissan: i have been the first in the area to have a XTerra Nissan, the first one to have a Murano, then the Altima and now this Versa.....it must be really something...lol....

Polar...oh, you reminded me of my first months here in Usa.....i didn't have a car yet because id didn't have a driver license either......i went to take the test and i was panicking ..not for the driving or parking (i passed at the first try) but because i was horrified that the trainer would ask me to do something and i would misunderstand him.....pfiuu...

Mom....i had a feeling you were more a motorcycles kind of girl.....my ex and i bought a black Sabre Honda 4 years ago...great nachine...so nice....loved it.....i have to tell you one of these days what i did on the back of that baby...lol....*wink*

I had a Nissan 2000 NX and it was a quick little thing.
I had a Honda CRX and it was quick too!

My Husband and I BOTH hate our cars now.  2 Audi's and they both fucking suck ass.  I had another Audi before and I should have KNOWN not to get another and another.  I'm still beating myself.

I've been looking at Range Rovers.  I want one $niffle $niffle, I will never have one.  I've also been looking at the BMW X5's.  Want one, Husband HATES the looks of them, so it looks as if I will never have one of those either.

I drive a honda odyssey, sea foam green, it looks gray. i do love it, because it totes me and my 6 pet children. i have always become attached to my car, not because of cost, but because it is often where I find myself alone. It hears my thoughts, sees my tears, sings along when a great tune comes on. Its a big car so i feel pretty safe in it. Once i had an umbrella that i got when i was around twenty. i got it in london. I had it until i was around 38. I felt attached to it like it was family, i am not a packrat, its just that when something is around me for a long time, i form attachments, i cant even tell you the grief i felt when it broke, i couldnt just throw it away, i wanted to have a ceremony and give it a proper burial. i know this sounds insane, but it is true. im sure that i transfer my grief to items. I dont have much from the past, maybe that is why. i dont recall my trip to england, but it traveled with me for a long time. oh well.

I dont really care about first year or 10th years...i go with the mood...i went there to lease a Sentra actually but then i saw this little vixen and i got hooked..hope she will not betray me along the road...lol ...

Whensnoopy.....oh, i so agree with you.....my cars have seen so many things: tears, laughs, love, farewells, welcome back hugs, steamy encounters, fights,  baggages, camping gears and tents.....it will take a blog to write about it..i migh do it pretty soon..

When i was cleaning the trunk of the Altima to return her, i realized that the military sack i put there 2 yers ago and never gave a tought about it  was indeed one of the sails from our sailboat (now sold)  .......now, you tell me...why in the Earth i have been going around for 2 years with a sail in my trunk?

I think everything is at the end connected .....if we stop thinking about the meaning...I didint want inconsciosly separate from that last vestigia of my marriage...symbol of happy times...

Well, my daughter, as i said, named the new car Veela....if you take a "e" away from the name you have Vela.....that in Italian means .......sail .....I found this coincidence simply amazing...

geez...,this black shows EVERYTHING!!!  I am afraid i will have to wash her  A LOT more than the other one....well, that would be easy...in 2 years i washed the silver Altima only 3 times.....no kidding.....rain was doing a perfect job for me....

oh, where did i drive myself into??.....LOL...

Any suggestion in how to keep this black clean without spendig a fortune?

  • lioneljay said on Mar 02, 2007....
GS, I suggest that you plan on doing one of the following:

    • Buying your gas at stations that have a car wash
    • Washing your car regularly on your own (if you do this publicly while dressed in your bathing suit it may serve a dual purpose)
    • Becoming very, very good friends with the manager of a car wash
    • Find a job at a car wash

    or

Adopt the mantra, "Dust, schmust...at least it's not rust!"
  • secretlife said on Mar 02, 2007....
did you call him back and tell him you were slaving away in the kitchen today just for him?  LOL....i'm not gonna let you live this one down!

my suggestion is to offer your daughter the job of official car-washer.  at least during the spring, summer, and fall, you can pay her a few dollars to wash the car once a week....
take my word, in 2 years, when it's time for the next car, she will pick blue....
  • gingersoul said on Mar 02, 2007....

LJ.....LOL...devilishily funny......i hope you are not suggesting moi to wear a bikini and shorts while washing my car??? How could i ever dare? ...lol.....

Soo.....of all the options i think the first one is the most doable.....but being me so lazy and so NOT into car cleaning/maintanance i think adopting the mantra is the best......easy, quick....lol....

Or......i could always offerin lasagna in exchanging of  car washing....LOL...

ginger -- if i could jump from belfry to belfry tonight (fortunately, my full moon powers have worn off too early this week), i'd wash your car everyday for a taste of your impeccable lasagna... lol. yes, it was a kawasaki 125 dirtbike -- in my favorite yellow and black colors -- that led to two weeks in the hospital -- in the ortho ward, of course, and not in the lepers' ward as in the case of che.

letting me into the driver's seat is a different matter though. i'm used to riding on rough trails, remember. i like to make the engine whine and scream until it's smoking inside and out. wanna take that risk? the state of texas would be crazy to issue me a license. you are properly warned... Waaay back in '96 , i picked up a champaign  '95 T-Bird, V-8, all the whistles and toots...Over the years , I morphed her (yes she is a girl car) into a back haired fire breathing she deamon !! 400 shaft HP truck engine with a super charger, racing suspension, roll cage , custom paint, huuuuge hood with lumps in it to cover all the extra stuff, custom wheels, custom drivetrain, brakes, suspension new leather recaro seats from a Catera. you name it, its probably got it. I have about a quarter million miles on her, but everything has been replaced /rebuilt  by me or some friends that are pros once or twice sometimes more.....Thing is I love that car, but my wife says I am getting too old and worn out to maintain it , plus its loud and she hates it, so I have to sell her. Anyone in the market for a good German wife?......... the car, i was planning to die with, but maybe I will sell her as I get a lil' frightened every once in a while when she tries to get away from me, but it kinda adds to the thrill of her... I dunno', I may miss the Birdie more than the wife? i did find a '98 Caddy , white, all the goodies, and less than 60k, which may be available soon, and I have some interesting plans for that car .... With the fuel prices gradually hiking up, car fuel economy is among the most looked at specifications. A car that is more fuel efficient is sure to be environment friendly and easy on the pocket....
I will need to buy a new, or used ar soon, but I can't figure out the best one to get, or what price would be fair' Then I have to pay sales taxes and registration. Who has the money for this crap? I'll need snow tires and everything else! Maybe I should...
