For three days now, I've had a runny nose, accompanied by coughing and sneezing uncontrollably. Yesterday, I asked my daughter to find me a home remedy on the internet, because I just couldn't stand it anymore. It's from allergies and I ran out of my allergy medicine which, by the way, cost me over $100 a bottle and lasts less than a month.  The first "cure-all" was smelling a marker to stop a runny nose.  I don't know, but maybe non-toxic markers don't count, because that certainly didn't work. But, then there was the mixture of salt, water and either baking powder or baking soda. Well, I have the water and the salt. So, I decided to try this one, minus the bp/bs. I mixed it up and put it in a clean nasal spray bottle. After a few sprays, my runny nose, cough and sneezing were gone.

I could never be a great chef, Ed, because I don't measure anything, especially when I'm trying something new out of desperation. But, I did wash out an old prescription nasal spray bottle, and dumped a small amount of table salt at the bottom, then added warm water to the top and shook. It didn't work. So, I added a  little more salt which helped some, but not enough. The third time, I covered the bottom of the bottle with salt and tried again. I fell asleep and woke up refreshed without a runny nose and the sneezing was gone.

Ariene, I tried that when I had my nasal problems, but sadly it did not work for me.  It cost me a nose operation to get my nose to stop running!

PS: I am really pleased for you - I KNOW how bad it can be - sometimes I use to wake up in the middle of the night and just cry because I couldn't breath and my nose ran continuously.

Ginger - I hope it works for you. I did use a spray bottle and made sure to use enough in each nostril, at least on the third try. It's been almost a day now and I'm still doing fine.

polar - That's terrible that you had to go through that. It's emotionally and physically draining. It's hard to find a good surgeon these days, but I'm glad you found one and your problem is solved. I remember every time I'd cry, my nose would and still does just get stuffy.

Oregano oil softgels help me tremendously.  I take them morning and night year round.  I get mine at http://www.swansonvitamins.com .  They are less than $10 a bottle.

I also rub tea tree oil all over my face, neck and chest.  Lavender oil is good to rub around your eyes when they are all itchy and watery.

The saline nasal spray is good for me too.

    Hope this helps.
