Sometime in early December, I got a letter from The Dallas Morning News
(DMN)
about major upcoming changes. They will no longer have local delivery of the paper within a 200 mile radius of Dallas due to rising costs as of January 31, 2007.

I will get my paper. It will be mailed, cost an additional $9.05, (up from $13.95 a month) and it will be three to five days late. I subscribe to Sunday only.

Being a subscriber to DMN, I became concerned not for myself, but for the other people who go to local libraries, convenient stores, and cafeterias looking for The Dallas Morning News and not finding it in the bins. How were they to know local delivery ended Wednesday, January 31, 2007?

I bet Wichita Falls isn't the only town being effected by the 200 mile radius rule. Frankly, it stinks. The letter I received in December also states that one can also go to http://www.dallasnews.com and read the paper free on line. I hate to tell DMN this, but there's a large population that doesn't have access to a computer and cannot afford to pay for a subscription depending on cafeterias, drug and grocery stores, convenient stores, and libraries to read the current issue of The Dallas Morning News. In other words, they've cut off their right arm when they stopped local delivery of that paper here. A lot of would-be subscribers and buyers are shut out.

The friend I pass my paper to at church on Sunday is mentally challenged, has reading difficulty, and enjoys reading this paper. It has a second function too. I pass the baby coupons on to the nursery as donations. Other coupons are well received also.

When my friend decided to complain about having no paper, I passed her the number to DMN Customer Service1-800-925-1500. She actually heard a few people complain at a local cafeteria and convenience store. Maybe, if enough people complain about it, The Dallas Morning News will reinstate local delivery like it was in spite of the cost.

It has taken three weeks to switch my newspaper over to the mail option, but I will finally be getting my paper through the mail after contacting customer service about it three times. I complained Friday last week when I found my account still inactive after the first two attempts to switch it.

Amen to that! If one doesn't keep on these people promising a service and not delivering, there subscriptions to the paper would cease to exist.
