Who's reading ConfuciusSays (4):

It has been speculated by several people, myself in included, that, one day, our world won't be divided by cultures, borders, trade laws, or armies. Thus, we'd have one giant nation, one giant government, and one giant identity.

This thought scares many people, but I, on the other hand, find it quite welcoming. The elimination of borders would quickly begin a decline of ethnic cleansing, genoides, and religious wars. The mixing of all cultures into one world culture would also quickly begin a decline in racism and nationalism.

People would not lose their old cultures and nationalism, however. Let's take a look at the U.S.A. The great melting pot, right? Sure, many groups of people, my family included, have lost many of their old culture and traditions from their countries of origin. However, there are also many groups of people that hold onto their old culture and traditions while accepting those of their new home. This would be much the same occurence in the giant nation of the world: those who want to hang onto their old culture will, and those who don't want to won't.

The elimination of borders, cultures, and armies will eventually result in the elimination of racism, nationalism, and wars. By ending racism, nationalism, and wars the human race can move forward together to try and preserve our planet, prolong our race's survival, and overall improve human life.

The creation of the European Union is the just the first step towards this better world. Whether that is a good or a bad thing is up to you to decide.

Are we talking Euro-Socialism here? Or just a future world Utopia?

More of a future world Utopia kind of thing.  It's merely a theory and speculation.

i don't see it, frankly. most days it seems the EU can barely get member states to agree on simple domestic things. it will take a long, long time before member states think of themselves as from europea before france or italy--or indeed before provence or emilia-romania.

The EU is still mostly an economic thing. It was created for the purpose of making it easier for it's members to trade with each other and block off foreign markets. It's the same with immigration, freedom of movement within the EU and then gang together to keep anyone from outside in (see the massive refugee camps in East Europe and North Africa). It's like a gang where the kids help each other out at the expense of anyone else getting too close.

The EU is a good thing for those in it, a world government would be better because everyone would be in it. But IMHO "one giant nation, one giant government, and one giant identity" isn't what we need. What we do need is no nation, no government, and no identity but our own.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree.  All I was trying to say with that statement is that there wouldn't any discrimination between people.

I know I'm a little late on this one, but it caught my interest. I, like you, am for the elimination of nationalism, war, genocide, genetic cleansing and the like. I am a strong advocate for unity and compassion. Your vision for one world is a lofty goal, which I support! Rather than just a EU, we need a WU (World Union). Thanks for posting this blog!

The people have spoken ... again.

...
Well they did it......despite a majority of Americans that oppose the proposed socialist health care bill.....they passed it.

This will clearly set the ball rolling for a massive Republican resurgence in 2010....
