Secret's post on middle names got me thinking about how I like my name. My first name I don't really care for, my middle name I like. It has 5 different diminutives, all really cute. My first name is so boring, so grown up.

So, you know how artists sometimes get to pick a stage name, or authors use a pen name...what name would you give yourself? Would you be a Jane, a Samantha, Laura? Me, I've always been fond of Cassandra...huummm, maybe I'll use that as my pen name if I ever do write that book.

What about you? What would your artist name be? Everyone, you have to promise not to steal others names...lol..

Hi there allroundgirl, you know I hated my name growing up originaly it read

Tobi-Lee Hine here are the derogatives I grew up with:

Uncle Toby's Oats (actual brand of porraige here)

Lee's Jeans (Hey lee got any Jeans to sell dahhh)

Heinz Baked beans (you know beans beans good for your heart beans beans make you fart, you eat beans don't you?)

Now my surnames Vivian and it can confuse people, it's unusual and I have never met another Tobi-Lee before so I like my name.  Stage name of course is the name I use here

    I LOVE LUCY !

My name has English roots and is about as exciting as watching cactus grow.

The female names I like are Isabella Rossalini and Claudia Cardinale.

I've no idea about a mans name. Maybe Lancelot.

I love the name Meredith... to me it denotes beauty and sophistication. It is old fashioned, but beautiful and feminine.  If I ever had a pen name, it would include Meredith somehow.

Lucytorial:  I love that name (Lucy) too. I know a little girl named Lucy, she is so beautiful. She has big brown eyes, freckles and long black hair. She will be breathtaking when she grows up. When you post, I can't help but think of her, but in grown up form. It's a lovely name.

I tend to like old fashioned or biblical names, especially for guys. My favorite is Mathew.

I don't like the new names with weird spellings, or the ones that look like their parents just didn't know how to spell at all. Like my daughter is in third grade and there is one little girl named Mick Kay Lah. Just like that, spaces and all. Then she has a middle and last name. What the hell?

My name is boring.. Michelle. There is always another Michelle wherever I go, and I just become one of many.

Growing up I hated my name but I've become accustomed to it. It's not wildly unusual but it is not a name that's in common use. It abbreviates nicely and is easy enough to spell and it has a proper meaning to it.

So I suppose I'm saying I like my name. ;-)

If you take your middle name and add your street name, you become a soap opera star (or a porn star, you choose!)
  • MissMimi said on Feb 13, 2007....

I dislike my name, only because the way it's spelled has caused me a lot of aggravation through the years.  It's almost always mispronounced.

I love the name Catherine, with the nickname of Kate or Katie.

I like my name...but it doesn't matter how small I write, my name never fits on the signature line. If you have a long last name, you should have a short first name and so on... but not in my family... my mother thinks the longer the better apparently!

I hated my 1st name for the longest time. I always wanted to be a Christy,Denise, even a Danielle.(My real name has 9 letters in it. My parents were part of that whole 60's flower child movement)
It wasn't until I hit my teens that I made peice with my name and began to appreciate it. ( There were like 5 Christy's 2Denise's etc.,. and I didn't have that problem. When some one called me by my name I knew it was me and no other takers. I am unique

They say that calling you by your real name is music to the ears.

My real name (first, middle and last) is Spanish in origin. My grandmother chose it for me. I was always called by my nickname, and have loved the nick rather than my real first name. But when there were 3 of us by the same nick, I was called by my real name just to distinguish. Strange, I love how it sounds!!!

If I were to choose though.. I'd love Samantha or Xyreene.

I used to hate my name... no one had it.  No one has it now.  I only know of one other person who has my name.  I have grown to love it... it is me...who I am so there you go....

I love name.  It's not terribly unusual, but it's still not a name that is extremely common either.

    Hmmmm...a stage name....

I like Saroj.  I also like Nola, and Drusi, but I might just go with my username here.

    i love the name JOAN

Before, i used to hate my name. But as time passed by, I learned to love it because people find it real interesting and is quite a conversation starter, and my name is quite long too, so whenever I am being punished by teachers to write my full name on the black board, I always finish last because of too much letters.

Anyways my nickname is a guy's name, though I am really girly. My name is a combination of a girly girl's name and a guy's name,... James {the second word to my name hahahha}... LOL. Imagine my teachers put me in guy's list over and over again hahah....

I always wanted to be called Sophia or Alexandra...

    Cheers.

my husband very often calls me by my first and middle names together.  no one does that but him.

I've never disliked my name.  But there were a lot of them when I was growing up.  As well as Debbie's, Christy's and Beth's.  For Boy's names there were a lot of Doug's, Paul's and Kevin's.

When I was a little girl I always daydreamed about my name being Darcy for some reason.  I was actually a little obsessed about it.  I used to write little stories about what happened to this girl and her name was always Darcy Jean.  ????   I have no idea.  hah.

Now....the names I love are Ava, Libby, Grace and Polly.
    Boys.....Connor,  Jack, Charlie and Ryan

pen names....hmmmmm.....grace brighton, lucy flowers, or Libby Walters.

Harriett - who would name their daughter Harriett - sick and twisted parents like my own.  Luckily the gave me another name to fall back on - which I like and suits me much better

My cousin has the most beautiful name I've ever heard - her name is Esterlita (sp?)  Mirasol - which means little star look at the sun

I actual like my first name, so I would keep it.  If I was to use a pen name for writing it would probably be CW with a strong sounding last name.

Wow, I am just browsing through this site and stumbled upon this wonderful blog. Incidentally, I just completed my first book, Blessings At Your Fingertips, and in a chapter, titled, There Is Something In A Name, I have delved into this subject at length. I know of family members who are sworn to secrecy, never to decode to strangers what the JKs, JDs, RWs, and VCs, as in VC Chambers stand for. I was one of those people with a very unusual name growing up. The happiest day of my life was when I wrote out some positive things what my name should stand for. Since there was no etymology assigned to my name, I had to come up with affirming words to make me feel good about my name. Folks, understand that somebody wrote what a Victoria, Charles, Marilyn, or Harold meant some 500 year ago. So, why can't we become proactive and write words denoting greatness for ourselves? For more information, check out my website at Writeablessing.com. I would love to hear from you. You can also purchase a copy of my book via PayPal from that website. Nandell Palmer
