I was looking through Google during the past week. It is amazing the number of skincare prodcuts, especially for the face, that are competing for your skincare dollars.
As the baby boomers get older, cosmetics companies are pulling out the stops with products meant to hide the signs of aging, but there are better wasy to get the result you want without products that have all sorts of added ingredients and come in pretty packages.
Shop at your health food store and get some basic oils. Sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil are the most effective natural substances to use for moisturizing and can also double as hair care oils. Adding essential oils to your blend can lift your spirits and impart extra nutrients to scalp and hair.
Rosemary, lavender, and other essential oils are found in commercial products. Just read the ingredients on the labels. I believe that the amounts of the essential oils are probably much lower than what you might be able to use for your presonal skincare and haircare products, but I really have no proof of that. I assume that amounts are low to avoid people having allergic reactions to those special ingredients. Since you will be experimenting on your own, you will be able to keep track of any problems and adjust your ingredients accordingly.
Don't know what to do next?
It takes time to gain experience using base oils and then adding essential oils. Some of what I know came from my grandmother and I added to that by reading books on the subject. There are many more books available now than when I was in my 20's and even my 30's. There are places where you can get a few pointers for free, also. Take a look at Essential Wellness and Women of Color .
