Recently in the news was the story of some schools wanting to randomly test high school students for alcohol on Monday to determine whether or not they had been drinking over the weekend. To me this is insane. It is not up to teachers to raise our children and invade every aspect of their life. As if this wasn't enough, yesterday I heard a story about New Jersey schools showing acceptance of alternative families films to kids which angered many parents. The film showed various images of families with either 2 moms, 2 dads, 1 mom with 1 dad, etc. But, why they think they should have the right to force lifestyle acceptance on students is beyond me. The parents must now write a note if they don't want their kids to see the films.

ariene: sadly, a lot of parents seem quite happy to let the schools (and therefore by extension, the government) do the parenting for them. it's a very sad thing.

as you know, i disagree w/ you re: gays so i'm not gonna touch on that.

You're right, Ed. Otherwise, it would never have gone this far. This time, it really wasn't aimed at gays, more about the power to influence and control young minds. I am trying to be more sensitive.

nah, don't be worried about being more sensitive, esp if it's what you really feel, ariene. seriously, this is your blog, after all: say what's on your mind. it's not like there's an obligation for us to have to agree or anything. :>

I have seen many items on the news of late about what schools are doing, or attempting to do. It is disturbing.

Thanks, Ed. You know I'm not about hate. I just try to express what I believe at the time. My own cousin is gay. beyondtheevil - I guess parents would have to be concerned and involved enough to stop it. I took action once and won. I was put through hell and had to represent myself, with the assistance of a less than willing prosecutor, in court. But in the end, I tend to stand up for what matters most to me even if it is against all odds.

You do know that public schools are just liberal training camps, right? Their primary goal today it to indoctrinate our children to be good liberals and Democrats. Schools were originally a product of the industrial revolution. At first they were training camps for factory workers. School taught the young ones to get up and go to the same place every day, and to spend eight hours or so taking orders from a "boss". Somewhere along the line they became liberal training camps devoid of anything Godly and now teaching our childern how to be homo perverts. Yank your kid out now and either home school them or send them to a private Christian school. The future and sanity of this country may depend on it. I also heard something about schools being able to fine parents that do not show up for parent-teacher conferences. It will probably just take a couple of teamster (mafia) dads getting a fine for them to go up and beat the shit out of some teachers and school board members to get that stopped. Welcome to the USSA.

I don't like the school system anyway.  They already tread in areas that isn't their business.    I think the parents writing a note to get their kids out of that class is good.  It was like that for sex ed.  I would go and view the film before and see if it was fit for my child.

As a parent they do expose our kids to too much sometimes. But the Alcohol thing is a good idea if these kids are driving to and from school which is one of the reasons I approve of that plan. The alt life styles is and should be up to me to explain not a teacher. But school like everything else in life is getting like t.v.:" ANY THING GOES!"

Several my friend, when I visit home. There kids go to school a couple of hours a day to learn to read, write, and do arithmetic. The rest of the day they spend playing with a nannie type. Their real education starts at 18, in college, and they get to choose whether they want to listen to liberal crapola or actually learn something. Wow silver, is that smoke coming out of your ears? I guess, as a liberal, all of this does not compute for you. But then I figure it goes against your grade school liberal training camp education.

pfft, everybody knows that the real indoctrination starts in high school, alien!

ALIENated - I never heard it put that way before....interesting.  I do think private schools and home schooling are better alternatives to today's public school system.

mom - I don't think, initially, the parents had any warning about the film being shown to their kids.

husbandhater - I see your point, but shouldn't it be the responsibility of the parents what their children do on the weekends and other times they're not in school.?

I'll be honest. I didn't see this coming. I didn't expect Obama to do anything directly supporting the gay community. I had assumed that it was just lip service...
