I was reading a post just a few minutes ago on how President Bush and Hitler are similar in ways.
*Sigh*
I really wanted to post but my good sense prevented it.  Not that the post wasn't worthy of comment.  I just think I don't possess the communication skills to engage in that particular conversation.  Maybe I don't give myself enough credit, but I really didn't want to sound like an idiot.  So, having said that, I'm just going to jot down some of my thoughts on all of this in my blog space and you guys can feel free to comment if you want.

First, I'd like to say..... Having done extensive, and I mean extensive, research on Adolph Hitler, I really don't think Bush deserves that sort of comparison.  He may have made some bad decisions, but anything he's done wrong is a far cry from mass genocide.  Some may disagree, but for me... nothing compares to that kind of tyranny.   Lenin, Stalin, Mussolini, Saddam Hussein perhaps, but certainly not President Bush.  Please don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan in any sense of the word.  However, I don't imagine running a country to be an easy thing and I'm not so sure there's a better candidate out there right now for the job.  In fact, I think we're doomed in 2008.  Not because Bush will no longer be in office, but because we don't know how bad things could really get with the "unknown".   At least, as of now, we pretty much know what to expect from Washington.

Now, relating to the title.... Necessity of War.  Is war necessary?  Is THIS war necessary?  I think past wars were.  I think some of our involvements in past wars were not only necessary, but essential.  I think if we could all reflect and think of how our lives would be right now if Hitler had succeeded in his master plan, then most of you would agree with me.  Would some of us even have any family left?  I know I would have lost loved ones if that kind of dictator was running this country.  Would one of the oldest religions in the world been able to survive it?  I don't think so.
Regarding this war.... I don't know.  That's my honest answer.  So much about this war has changed over the last years,  I'm not even going to pretend that I know enough about it to say it's right or wrong.  I do, however, think it's too late now to just pull the troops out and leave them to their own demise.  I think since we've gone over there and wreaked havoc, we have no choice but to help these people make something of the shambles that are left..... Now, please don't look at this as if I feel sorry for the terrorists.  That would be inaccurate.  I do feel sorry for the innocent bystanders now that are looking to us for help and support in making their country livable again and I think that now that we've started this, it has to be finished.  I also think that pulling out of there prematurely would be bad for us as well.  I don't even have any hard facts to back up that last comment, but something, intuition maybe, makes me think more harm than good would come from it.

Alright guys, sorry, but I had to post something about it. If I hadn't, it would have bothered me all day. Thanks for letting me rant. *smile*

One question:  Is anyone really actually going to vote for the HildaBeast? (Hillary Clinton)

personally, i think that any comparisons to hitler are way, way overboard. i may not like bush--frankly, i dislike his presidency a great deal--but c'mon, comparisons to hitler are the realm of lunacy, i think.

I commented on the Hitler post to make a joke about Bush, whom I do not like or respect. The comparison between the two was definitely reaching.

Concerning Iraq, it was uncalled for & the public was lied to. I have said before, the Iraqi people will have been much better off under the dictator than how much they have suffered plus how much they are going to suffer before it's over, if its' ever over. Then there is our cost in dead, wounded, economically, & world opinion.

Afghanistan is different thing. Without the Iraqi war, this war would be over & probably handled far better.

Devil: "I have said before, the Iraqi people will have been much better off under the dictator than how much they have suffered plus how much they are going to suffer before it's over, if its' ever over."

I think the 300,000 Iraqis and the families of many many Iraqis we found in body bags would disagree with this statement.

The Iraqi People now have a chance to forge their own nation and have risked their lives to participate in three elections. Yes there will be more bloodshed and more American blood spilled.

But shame on us if we - the people who helped Saddam come to power, the people who shrank away and ignored Islamic extremism as it spread from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, the Philippines, all the way to Africa and into Europe - think we can just wash our hands of it all. Shame on us if we think the mullahs will be happy to just play with the heads they cut off in their own lands. Shame on us if we think the world will love us more for abandoning the Iraqis to the loving care of terrorists and tyrants.

Bush isn't anything even remotely like Hitler. People who think he is only reveal the ignorance and childish hostility and hypocrisy that permeates their own lives. Nuff said.

Thanks for commenting guys. I won't say if I think any of you are right or wrong because I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to thier opinions, so... just thanks.

brennee: your decision, but honestly, this is after all your blog. if you're going to say what you think about anything at all, any place at all, shouldn't that place be here?

Silver... You're absolutely right, but I think a subject like this is bound to start not only an great discussion, but a lot of argument and fussing as well.  Being the hot tempered chick that I am, I'm going to put off frustration for now.  That is, until I'm addicted to this site and it won't matter if I blow my gasket or not.  I'm not ready for people to start badgering me yet lol

BrenneeLee- Your skills to communicate your feelings and point of view are quite good. If you want to shock yourself-run a historical comparison between the Bush presidency and Lincoln's. No I will not vote for that socialist queen.

As for you Curmudgeon-you make way to much sense!

Anyone who considers Bush a bad president, not to mention comparing
him to Hitler, immediately demonstrates their lack of reasoning power
and wisdom to me. Most have developed amnesia and a Monday-morning
quarterback attitude about the war. Most of the Demoncrats have
conveniently forgotten that they voted to go into Iraq. You cannot
make a commitment like that and then just walk away because the
liberals cannot follow through on anything. We are not dealing with
people who will respect us because we hug trees. We are dealing with
people who are out to crush us and have us return to the dark ages.
And anyone who would vote for Hillary is a serious nut job. We would
have a female leader for a short time, but when the Islamics take over,
you women will not even be able to show your face in public. Forget
    about running for office.

    Alien, I agree
  • deftnha said on Feb 06, 2007....
Definately agree that that comparison is in the realm of the ludicrous. I don't like Bush, but he's better than some of his competitors. Mysef i'm a pacifist and therefore not in favour of any war. But i consider myself too emotionally involved in such things to be able to make such decisions on the behalf of others. So i would never try to prevent other people from going to war if they think it's right. Only thing i would really question aboutthe Iraq war was the total absence of transparency in the reasons for the war. Something which is coming out in a big big way here in the UK.
  • deftnha said on Feb 06, 2007....
Sorry for double posting, but just noticed aliens bit about women not being able to walk around without their faces covered up.... Bullshit. Sorry, but women in Iraq were able to wear basically anything they wanted in public before the invasion. It's growing anti-Western sentiments that have created a backlash which has since restricted people's freedoms.

If you had ever actually been to an Islamic country you might realise that most of them are a lot more liberal and free than most Americans and Europeans want to give them credit for. Because if you realised the truth then maybe you'd be forced to feel some modicum of guilt for the way our governments treat people.

Sorry again for the tone, but i had to say that.
  • ALIENated said on Feb 06, 2007....
You are telling me that radical Islamics, the kind from Iran, etc.,
are liberal? I say bullshit to that. I heard on the radio this morning
that some non-Saudies are in big trouble in Saudia Arabia for having
a party ... with booze ... and dancing. I saw a TV drama the other
night and an Islamic wife could not even talk to men. Is ultra-liberal
TV wrong about that? That is surprising. I have no problem with
Islamics. It is just that "kill all non-Islamics" clause that they have
that bothers me. We are pretty adament about not mixing politics
and religion in this country. Islamic countries are not. That is why
we are going to be in big trouble unless we wake up to some of the
things that are going on in the world. I am a pacifist also, but to
me that means I do not start wars. If you are attacked and do
not fight back, that is not being a pacifist.

I spent a couple of months in Iran a few years back and most of the people i met there were liberal yes. They have a very different culture over there, but they put up with me and for the most part helped me get by. Of course there are exceptions.

As for that party in Saudi, alcohol is illegal there, their view of alcohol is equivalent to our view of heroin or cocaine. I'm sure you wouldn't expect someone to get away with shooting up and crashing out in a hotel in the US just because they were from a different country. Again, it's just a different culture.

Which brings us to "kill all non-Islamics." The simple fact is that this is a minority view based on a possible interpretation of the Qur'an. Most Muslims don't hold that view. However similar ideas of victimisation and religious war are being given credence by certain aspects of American and European foreign policies. The fact is that the Iraq war was NOT self-defence. It's coming out in Britain that the absolute consensus view of the Foreign Office prior to the war was that Iraq posed no threat to Britain, America or their interests. That's a fact.

In short, feel free to believe that some Muslims are intolerant terrorists, but please don't accept the insinuations of our media (Fox, CNN, BBC etc etc) that all Muslims are intolerant terrorists. Intolerance is no more linked to Islam than bunny rabbits are to the Communism.
