  "You will not believe ;) less than 1K" I'm certain that building from scratch would cost a lot more than $1k if your counting labor. postrock, cost like time spent working on it.

Note, I said a good programmer ;) Java is more expensive (starting from $800) I live in Kiev (a capital) here we have high level of salaries and incomes (Kiev was announced 21st world most expensive cities, so, nobody works for less then for 400 otherwise he cannot live here), but if you move out of it 150-200 km away, you will find cities with good math. universities with average salaries of people living there $150. A lot of programmers work in Ukraine as freelancers and dump the prices of studios and software companies. Yes, the level of them should be checked, but for this you need to live and work here for an year. For example, I started to ask, how much it will be to make such a website, the last price was $200 in cash 2-3 weeks of time. Not so much, right? Even if he will not meet deadlines, let it be 1 month :) I'm not in the hurry... because I'm thinking if I need it. If you take a good programmer as a partner for such a project, then it is completely free ;) So, I was very interested with such an option and have positive feedback from some of them. Basically, I'm too lazy to write the code by myself, but as I can see the engine is not so difficult... I wrote the blog by myself, I wrote the main part of my website's engine.

  I'm an experience programmer and one of the biggest flaws programmers have is that they always under estimate the time it would take to do something. I'm guilty of this myself. Always keep this in mind when your talking to coders and I'm certain that it would take at least double the estimates you have recieved if not more. My experience has taught me that it's easy to look at a site such as this, or any product, and think that it's simple. However, it takes a ton of work, time, and experimentation to make a clean user friendly product. For example, it would be easy to look at the ipod and say, "that's easy. I could make one of those. It just has buttons for pause/play forward/reverse, and volume up/down." That belief would be totally wrong and is a dangerous trap to fall into as a business person.
