I always used to go and play my guitar to relax and shut out the world. It was very therapeutic, even though I've never really had that much to escape from or need therapy for, I deal with problems very well. Before that I'd go and sit with my dog for a bit.

Nowadays I don't have as much time. But I still like to shut off the world, turn my phone off an watch a movie or some such from time to time. In fact my phone goes off most evenings anyway and my home becomes a sort of sanctuary. Which I love. Wouldn't have it any other way.

So I'm curious. What do other people do to relax, unwind and escape from the world.

Oh and my other great love is to write. All sorts of everything. I love words and playing with them.

Or is everyone here so busy blogging to relax... or maybe this is your relaxation?

I can find "me time" just about anywhere, but my favorite at home is drinking coffee out side with the dogs. Bookstores are a good place. The best of all is going to my hometown by myself.

When I want to get lost in a world of my own I put my head phones on and play piano music loud.
Sometimes I just go to an outdoor cafe and sit and read.

Has to be music for me too... Most of my 'me' time is during the day whilst my kids are at school, but they're not babies anymore and I can often just shut myself away for half an hour in my bedroom.

lots of good places for 'me' time....

    -  the bathtub in my room....there's a jacuzzi on it, and a lock on the door....makes for a good combo when i'm in the mood for an hour of peace....

    - my sitting room ...this is where i go with a book.....i have a neat little love seat and a great warm blanket- plus there's a window with a view of the hills in there, so if i look up, i can always daydream....

    - nail salon ...yes, i'm one of those women who loves to have her nails done.  whenever i do for a manicure or pedicure i feel i've done something good for me

    - hair salon....is there anything better than having your hair washed?  for me, that's a great 'me' thing to do...

    - my walk......i have a walk i do every day.....this is really my 'me' time for a regular day.....1/2 of it is thru the swamp lands...the other half in a barely residential area and it ends at a large town park....i listen to tunes on my ipod...and this walk refreshes me in all ways.

Hi D, my special place is on our property half way up a hill sitting on a special log I haulled there and playing my violin.

It's the only thing that lifts my spirit and relaxes me completely.  It may be the vibration of my violin, that fact that I love to jam - creating unique or different sounds to suit my mood or enviornment.  Theres just something about music isn't there

Dicco.....sitting here at the comp is my favorite me time. I have a mini stereo on top of my desk so i write and listen to my favorite music at the same time. When i want to concentrate i play Baroque music or lounge music...specially if i write poetries or answer some friend emails..

Reading is a precious me time. Or watching a movie or going to a bookstore, like beyond......i zone out easily even working out...my brain simply unplug and i focus only in my exercises...

when i was in my country i used to go walking on the beach or in the woods on top my city...... now i use some long walks with my dog.....

I missed out music and reading. In regards to music I much prefer my guitar to listening but do love to just sit and listen too. If I want to taste the sublime for me Moonlight Sonata's opening passage hits me most in terms of letting the world go. But favourite bands include Matchbox 20, Ugly Kid Joe, Jack Johnson, Red Hot Chillis, G'N'R, GooGoo Dolls, Incubus, Razorlight, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, and on and on. I listen to everything really.

As for reading I always have at least three books on the go at any given time. And I read ecclectically. Don't always get as much time as I'd like but commuting and insomnia still help.

Hi, I don't have talents that I could possibly spend some time to relax, but I usually lock myself inside my room to meditate, sleep, or read a book.

Sometimes I sing my heart out (albeit out of tune).
Sometimes I go out with friends I rarely see just to unwind.
Sometimes I play with kids or play badminton.

    Cool post! =)

Music.  I play the piano (not well, mind you, but I do play), and I used to sing.

More likely, I go into my sewing room, close the door and just relax into the zen of quilting.  The mathematics of patchwork is soothing for me.  Music, loud music, is my companion there as well; anything from Beethoven to Metallica. When I'm in there, I can't hear the phone ring, an added plus.

    Writing's a good escape too.

I like to sit here at the computer, but there's more than "me" around usually.  If Husband's home to take care of daughter, I usually go up to my room and just chill out.  I like to check my closet to make sure it's still in "order!"

My real me time is at therapy sessions, lol!

If I am not angry with the hubby, I tell my him that I want to be alone.

I lock myself in the bedroom and read, doze off, read again then doze off until such time that he can't hold out the kids any longer :)

If I'm angry with him, I go out to watch a movie and pig out at the mall.

I don't know about now so much, but when I was in high school and had all those 'growing pains'I used to drive down to the lake...park...and be mesmerized by the lake. Was my place to thingk.

I blog. I listen to music.  I write.  I draw.  In the warmer months, I especially like spending an hour or so out at the lake walking.  I like to time it so I can watch the sunset over the water.  I think that's my truest moment of peace.

I listen to music, and I read...if possible I'll go to the library, but I love Barnes&Noble bookstores if I can get to one...simply because you can sit right there on the floor in some random corner, and read forever.  My alone time gets shorter and shorter, but today I snuck into a B&N and just browsed. Even that little trip helped center me.

I am trying to relax my mind for what is going to happen on Tuesday....
All hypnosis is self hypnosis, and we all possess the ability. Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation....

it's neither good nor bad. it just is.
