I have been trying to install an Epson Stylus Color 440 printer on to my laptop.  It's not cooperating.

Through some troubleshooting, I think I need to download a driver.  I've been to the Epson website, but I couldn't find a download.  This is due partly to the fact that I am not sure what I'm looking for.

My HP laptop runs on Windows 2000.  My printer is older, but it worked well the last time I used it on a different system. My current printer is an HP all in one, but it has major paper feed problems.

Any suggestions?  I would appreciate the help.

cw, have you visited this epson stylus 440 page? there are on this page two useful files to download for win2000: the printer driver v5.0ae, and the status monitor 2 vd2be. these are self-extracting .exe files. so after you finish downloading, you have to run them -- first the printer driver, then the status monitor. make sure your 440 is powered on and its cable connected to the pc when you install the two files. hope that helps.

You may also need to uninstall (if you haven't already) your other printer, my 400 got all pouty when I installed it until I removed the other printer. (Also an HP)

I haven't tried it yet.  I've been out all day.

I really want them both on the laptop so I can still scan with the all in one.

Let's hope I can accomplish that.

This didn't work.  I downloaded the driver and it said I had Windows XP.  I'm such a dufus.

Any other suggestions?  I don't see a driver to download for Window XP at the Epson site.

I did do the status download, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I may have to give up and get a new printer if I can't figure this out soon.

    ed,

Thanks.  I may just have to get a new printer.  I think that maybe the Epson is just too old for the newer laptop.  It's a shame though.  It's still a perfectly good printer.  I was  hoping I could be thrifty and keep going with what I had on hand. :-)

cw, first off, you will need to really check if your laptop's operating system is win2000 or win xp (although it now appears to be xp). if it's win2000, the problem lies elsewhere... if it's xp, i don't think your epson 440 is too old. it's just that, for some reason, microsoft has not provided any native printer support for this printer, and epson has decided not to update its stylus 440 for xp. it appears to be a business decisions so that these corporate giants can fuck our pockets deeper. i tried searching for an independent 3rd party 440 driver for xp, but havent found any so far. there are lots of warez sites that do this kind of public-service hacking... wish i could've been of bigger help :-)

i'm sorry, it appears i spoke too soon. epson says win xp has built-in driver support for epson stylus 440. details here. it would appear that you need to ask hp laptop tech support how to activate or reinstall the win xp driver from the original xp install disk. hth... :-)

Hi, I'm also having printer trouble. I have an HP Photosmart P1000. I'm running Windows ME (yeah yeah, I know). Just recently HP decided to eliminate all driver support for my OS (so, it seems, has everyone else). Does anyone possibly have the driver set that will work on my system? I'm using a different driver that works but the quality is pretty sad. Please send any response to ytmrfe@gmail.com Thanks for the help
