After watching a brief report on the news about the NAFTA Superhighway I decided to see what I could dig up on the net. At first I thought it was just another conspiracy floating around out there since most of what you find about lumps it in with part of a larger plan, but after finding a few articles and websites about it I became more open minded about the reality of it.

The first thing I found was an article by Jerome R. Corsi on humanevents.com. At first I was a little unsure of the source thinking it was going to turn and blame it all on the liberals (something I wouldn’t put past anything written on a conservative website) but instead he began to link none other than a fellow conservative, George W. Bush, as head of this plan. Now that was nothing different than what I had heard before. I was a little surprised to see that on that site though.

The article went on to say how the construction of this superhighway has already been begun funded by tax-payer dollars and the plans for it has been in plain view all this time and, in fact, the construction on it has already been started. Last but not list it talks about an agreement between the leaders of Mexico, the US, and Canada has already been completed. This agreement, called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, was called a step towards the prospect of a North American Union. On the website itself it claims to be nothing more than dialogue which provides for the security and prosperity of the nations involved and is nothing more, but from what I read on the site it seems to be more than that.

I highly recommend reading the previously mentioned article along with checking out the links given at the end of the article. The idea of this whole thing including a new Mexican Customs station, no not at the border, but in Kansas City (called the Kansas City Smart Port) doesn’t look like to good of an idea to me. First of all the smart port I just mentioned is going to be built using American taxpayer’s money even though it is not ours. The road will also be a toll-road operated not by an American company, not by a Mexican company, not by a Canadian company, but by a Spanish company called  Cintra-Zachry.

Another article I found that contributes more to the conspiracy end of the whole deal mentions the use of RFID cards to track people on this superhighway as well as others eventually. I find the use of any tracking devices even more unsettling than the Bush Administration’s wiretapping scheme. No person or groups should have the right to keep tabs on anybody other than the government keeping track of parole’s.

So what do you think about this whole plan. Is there more going on here than meets the eye and it really is the beginning of the formation of a North American Union? Or is it really just a step to better our country? Do you like the fact that so much is being done without the knowledge of the majority of the public? Is the lack of knowledge of this superhighway because to the fascination the media seems to have with the Iraq War and terrorism detracting from any coverage of this scenario?

If anyone else can find out any more information on this let me know. There has to be more out there.

NS: I was aware of this but did not realize it was this far along. I have long maintained there are very influential people in all three countries who would like to see a North American Union, similar to the European Union. I also feel that is why Congress refuses to pass a comprehensive immigration plan. I admit I am a little paranoid about our government, but one has to admit their track record leaves a lot to be desired. The media needs to get off their duffs and start publicizing this more, unless their leaders have bought into the plan. I am against it, but a few decades down the road it could come to pass. This definitely sheds more light on Bush's pro hispanic policies.

I don't like the idea of a North American Union. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Mexico didn't have so many problems economically and corruption wise, but in the future it may be the only way to go if similar things happen in other parts of the world. Another bad thing is that it kind of reminds me of how different countries made war pacts with each other before WWI. Those where rather simple pacts if they were to be compared to the efforts involved with something like this.
