It is a sad truth that most Filipinos pin their hopes and dreams to stroke of luck.
Lotto, Sweepstakes, Raffles, Quiz Shows, Game Shows, television text promos and such, even Basketball Endings and Jueteng. "Baka Sakali Swertehin" (might just get a stroke of luck), that's what most of them would say if you ask them why they actually strive to join these 'games', waiting in long lines, buying load just to be able to get a chance to win and grab that elusive jackpot prize.
Advertisments entice us to eat at a certain restaurant or fastfood with pictures of delicious looking foods and looking at those pictures we hope that the food will taste as delicious as it looks on the picture. So when we see prizes being showcased during a gameshow, beautiful fully furnished houses, nice cars, a cute scooter, you text in your name and all the information spend that last load, praying, hoping, wishing you get chosen and win that stuff the host just showed....And then all that came true, you got chosen, you won...you got the house..OMG, that pretty house shown on tv is mine!!!!
But then the process gets dragged...A month passed, then another, still no house. You're loosing hope but then a miracle, all the processing and checking and counter checking and all those blah blahs gets done. You go to the house and wtf, that's not the house on TV?? You ask them, Why isn't it the house as shown on TV? The developer said, There's none available...then you ask the show coordinator, they say, we got no say on that..whatever the developer will give you then that's it.
WWWHHHHHAAAATTTTTT???? You wanted to shout, curse and damn everybody to hell. Someone said just to let it go and accept what was given, there's nothing you can do if they say that, that is the prize, then that's it. You don't have a choice except to accept it and move on. Besides it just a prize, you didn't even pay for it. You can't afford even that house they're giving you so just be thankful that you won. You started to agree, but wait!!! Don't you have the right to get pissed and disappointed, that you expected better than what you're actually getting and what they're actually giving you? And shouldn't it be better, if not the best?
Yes, it's just a prize, and yes it wasn't bought, with money that is, but it was bought alright and it was bought with a much higher prize than mere money alone, it was bought with the hopes, dreams, trust and faith of not only the winner, but of all those who fall in line under the heat of the sun, spend hard earned, much needed money to buy cellphone load just to be able to text and join these contests and try to reach for their dreams.
Would'nt it be just fair to give us exactly our dream?
