(I hope.)

I thought a few people might be interested in a quick pregnancy update.

I hit 22 weeks yesterday (I know dates aren't all that accurate, but we do know for certain the night we conceived this time around, 'cause it was the only night in the possible timeframe - right as we were preparing to move into this apartment! - when anything happened).

I also had an appointment at the health department yesterday. Everything is going as it should. The heartbeat was strong and steady, in the 140s. I liked the midwife who saw me (first time I've encountered a midwife instead of a regular nurse/doc there).

The holidays were NOT kind to me weight-wise, but I'm still at only 15 pounds up overall, which isn't bad.

The AFP results were in (blood tests they run for chances of spina bifida, Down Syndrome, and certain neural tube defects) - my numbers are all where they should be. :) There was no reason (no history) to think things would be otherwise, but it's still nice to hear that everything looks good on paper.

Sprout is kicking me quite actively already, much stronger than little one was at this point. DH likes to joke about his little linebacker in there.

I've also got quite the beginnings of a waddle going on - I was a very small preggo with my first, so this is new. Bets are on as to how big I'll actually get, but my maternity pants already feel better with the button left undone! ^ ^

Now this kid needs a name. Ideas? We have a long and somewhat difficult last name, so not-so-long first/middle combos are good. :) I really like Ian right now.

Off to have a (small) bowl of ice cream and then tuck myself in for the night. Sweet dreams to all!

Actually, yes - but my grandfather has an awful name (wonderful man, and I hope he lives forever and a day!) we couldn't saddle our child with.

There *is* an old name in my family that I like, but I think it would be best suited for a middle name: Birch. It would go well with little one's name - both her first and middle names are "nature" names, though we picked them for the sound and beauty.

I can't think of any first name candidates that wouldn't get him shuffled to the bottom of the playground heap that fit the nature theme, so we're looking beyond that.

DH likes Ian, Lucas, and Kyle, but I can't figure out how to put any of them together decently.

We have time. :) I just would love to call the baby by name, instead of "Sprout," as soon as we can!

I have a theory about names.  Actually, I can't claim it entirely my own because there have actually been studies on this, but I digress.

Your child shouldn't have a name that's too unique because (s)he'll get teased for having a weird name.  A name that's weirder than weird will eventually turn the child into butt of many jokes and give the child self confidence issues.
Conversely, a name that's too common makes the child have issues with identity and trying to stand out in a sea of common names.

Every year, Babycenter.com publishes their list of top 100 names of the previous year.  I think it's good to be somewhere on the bottom half of that list.  In that region, the names aren't too common, but still somewhat normal.

Oh, and I forgot to add, congrats on the good test results!  Spina bifida runs in my DH's family, so I had to get extra ultrasounds for that.

    Thanks, BombShell!

I agree in general about the names - especially for boys. I love Birch, for example, but I think it's better as a middle name with a more "ordinary" first name before it. That way, if he decides to go by Birch when he's an adult, he can do so, but he's not stuck with no options whatsoever as a kid.

My daughter's first name is a rather prickly bush/tree, but it's basically nickname-proof and decently common, and though her middle name is much less common, it goes well with the first and can easily be left to the obscurity of middle-nameness if she so chooses.

(Now I'm dying to tell you her name, but I suppose that's not prudent. Darn.)

I feel so sad today, i can't quite put my finger on why though, which is kind of annoying....
Truly epic......
Had a bit of a scare on Monday........
The pee of earlier this week might have turned into something a bit more dramatic....
I have two friends who have funny names, and I was wondering if any of you know anyone with one as well.
Remember, real ones not made up.

My first is Rob Graves, and believe it or not, he has a cousin called Doug Graves.
My second...
