I don't know how I could have forgotten so soon, since it wasn't that long ago when I did some snooping about bug parts being used to make that nice red color we find in certain foods produced by some companies then wrote an article about it on my website. It turns out that the FDA is well aware of this practice and is fine with it. One of the ingredients you might want to look out for is "carmine". It's commonly used in strawberry yogurt, for instance. Carmine = parts of female beetles. It goes under other names, too, that I just can't recall at the moment. I was reminded of this yesterday, when the only sale yogurt left on the shelves was Dannon Strawberry-Bannana. I checked the label to see if it contained carmine and it does.
