This should be an interesting issue to bloggers out there... Are BLOGGERS born or made? What do you think?

It is not a novel question if you'd change the word BLOGGERS to any other noun you'd like to substitute, such as leaders. You'll have a question like this: Are LEADERS born or made?

Now, you're left with an all too familiar question. Whatever your answer to the second question would somewhat reflect on the first question.

Are BLOGGERS born or made?

i think that bloggers are made, not born, and the same applies to leaders.

IMX, people adopt a role usually as a result of some perceived need: a need to express what's on their minds or a need to provide leadership that is otherwise absent.

I agree with Ed...bloggers are made.

In my own experience, I had a great need to interact and found SoulCast  at a time I desperately needed it - my second encounter in blogging (I encountered blogging through MySpace but noticed very quickly that I would not have the kind of interaction I yearned for there, which I have here in SoulCast.  Ironically, and unwittingly through a MySpace buddy, I discovered SoulCast).

I love writing and reading.  Blogging is the 21st century form of communication.

Begging your kind indulgence philosopher´s_stone...here are links to my blog elaborating my views on blogging because this is a topic I find unendlessly  fascinating.

    Happy Birthday missb,.....Hi, I´m Joanna

What will happen if I pop this balloon....

BTW, let me take this opportunity to thank Ed for being an inspiration from my early beginnings here in SoulCast.  I have learned quiet tremendously from him (I learned indirectly, and through his advices in the past), and LionelJay, who is always a gentleman.

    Warmest regards,

    paper~

    P.S.

Fantastic post!  Looking forward to following the discussion, and comments of others.

Thank you for deeming me worthy of being read, philosopher´s_stone!  I am greatly honored with your subscription.  I treasure the sensation it gives me whenever someone takes the effort of clicking on the small word beside every UserId´s name: subscribe

Maybe it does not mean a lot to many but it means a lot to me.  As it hurts when someone unsubscribes, and you are left clueless as to the reason why...but life goes on (life is too darn short for crying over spilt milk, I´ve learned).  It only makes one stronger - learning to deal with perceived rejections.

May I assume you are a Harry Potter fan as well?

I am looking forward to getting to know you better.  How would you prefer being addresed to PS or philosopher?  I prefer paper all the time myself.

    Very interesting post, philosopher.....:-)

For me bloggers are born AND made at the same time..

They are born for the same reason an artist was born with that specific characteristic . He might not even know what potentials lie in himself  but given the rigth time, the right place, the righ tool he will dig and and found the only vehicle of expression that better suits him. It can music, it can be photography. It can be sculpture. It can be blogging.

I also think that people is able to use whatever has close hand if the urge to express is so impellent and unavoidable. Some writers are simply miserable souls while victim of their writer's block. They have to write otherwise their existence is meaningless.

I know that i chose to blog instead of splashing my pictures on MYSpace, for example, becase i had the urge to know what others were thinking, dreaming, fighting for. So i made a choice.

I was born a blogger because of the human need to communicate but being this an universal need i probably had some artistic innate potential that at the first occasion made natural for me choosing writing instead of singing or tailoring evening dresses.

I have been made a blogger because my present conditions created a specific, temporary situation in which was difficult for me to reach out to a larger number of people. Not to forget that the enviroment in which we are educated plays another important role too.

To tell the truth ed, I was offended a while back, as you said, that you found my effusiveness unnerving.  But, looking back, and after the comment you just posted now, I finally realize you did not mean to be offending.

Semantics, right ( re: word, unnerving)?!!

And back then I was intensely stressed out.  Coming back in SoulCast, more focused, and less emotional and angry -  anger in general, I took yet again, example in your style of communicating...well I picked the good bits [winks, not everyone is perfect]

    Dear philopopher´s_stone,

Communication is paramount to peace, I gather.  Verbal, non-verbal.  It is tremendously fascinating.

I studied Mass Communication, and with youthful arrogance (I am 34) thought, once I acquire knowledge, I will be powerful enough to protect myself from hurt, which arise from miscommunication.  I aspired to inspire, and lead others.  I realize, early on communication is intricate and dynamic.

SoulCast...blogging showed me again, the process of learning to communicate eloquently and effectively is infinite.

Hey, this is better than ranting, lol!  Better for the blood pressure.

To borrow Queenparanoi´s catch praise here in SoulCast:

    Keep on blogging!

    Paper...i got it...and read it....{smack}

Telepathy is what i wish for the humanity......but then, no ...better no...

we need to rephrase our thoughts or we will be killing each other in a nano seconds...:-)

and, as it just now happened between you and Ed....... it all depends by the receiver's sensitivity and the sender's intentions.....

words can kill but words can unify...

    Begging your pardon again philosopher...

Maybe this still belongs to the flow...a point of  view of the most popular blogger here in SoulCast...I have been very curious for a long time, and I hope I am not going over my bounds here:

Thanks so much ed, for taking time.  It weighed heavy in my heart.  Well, we are in all honesty total strangers but I admire and respect you, nonetheless.  So, you could understand how I took it.

Perhaps you are unaware or no...I think you are aware of how the others view you here in SoulCast; are you?

Most specially the newbies.  One is simply in awe - when one becomes aware of all there is to know of SoulCast - of your person.  I might be going overboard but your comment on a blog is like a knighthood for some.  I am not exaggerating, I have only observed how the people react to you in your interaction.  May it be newbies or seasoned bloggers.

It is like you represent a seal of approval...am I making an idiot of myself here?

I don´t know, maybe I am committing another social "blogging" fumble here.  But being the most popular here in SoulCast might have it´s downside too, I presume...the expectation is high....I don´t think I´m making sense...

Do other bloggersites have the same set-up as SoulCast...with subscriptions and list of popular members?

Sorry, I am always asking questions that brings me trouble...can´t help it.

    Regards,

    paper~

um...paper, i'm quite happy to continue our discussion but would prefer not to do that here in philosopher stone's blog entry. i will create a new blog entry in my own space for this purpose.

philosopher's stone, my apologies for this intrusion.

Hi ! ps, a very hard nut to crack.I had to recollect my past life and how I took to wrting articles and letters to the editors of different newspapers. I think primarily it  is a natural gift granted to an individual preceeded by quality education in one's early life. With the changing times  the advanced courses in journalism  the very concept of born bloggers has undergone a seachange. With vast avenues opening up in the field of publicity, advertising, publishing and the wide spectrum of media both electronic or otherwise circumstantial compulsions for a career is driving people to become bloggers.

I must say what a thought! If one is a blogger in 2007 but born in the 1960 era before all of this came about what would that person be? Well, we all know you can only make it what it is worth at this exact time and space so it will be made not born. That is what makes blogging so exciting to indulge in the thoughts of others that love to tease the brain to bring out the things we long for in life. Thanks for the tease!!!!!

I think bloggers like leaders are made, but that there is also an element of choice involved in choosing to blog or lead.
  • inspiration2jms said on Jan 08, 2007....
I think that both are possible but in my case the answer is made.

I was always very timid.  But a lifetime of  allowing others to take advantage of me came to an end on the day that I realized that I made myself a victim.  Not consciously, of course but I did.

That day I took control of my world and put an end to it was probably the beginning of what I call life.  I found that by not allowing things to happen to me, by standing straight and firm, I was capable of so much more than I ever imagined or could have dreamed.

I have since become the leader of two volunteer projects in my community and the editor of a newspaper.  The best reward for my awakening was earning the respect of my children.

Ten years ago, I would not have had the courage to blog or be creative in any way.

Thank you for the opportunity to say that.

A person being born or made into one of such status depends on opportunity.

Yes, luck plays a huge part in actualizing leadership or 'blogger-ship'.

For example, many people once kept journals or diaries; once the blogging phenomenon took off, those who were able to get access to the Internet became bona fide bloggers!

The others are simply and relatively unknown potential bloggers.

Ditto for leadership, but in a different way: only one person can be the leader, even in a group of equals.

Likewise, the rest are mere pretenders to the throne, so to say.
