The days go by so fast anymore and I find myself wondering just what it is that makes this whole “life” thing worth it. I know how horrible that sounds and believe me it is not said in haste. My eyes have been open to a world of decay and hatred, destruction and euthanasia.  Time ticks on as it always will, and with every minute more waste builds up, more energy senselessly expends, and the demand for both services increases; yet even now there is silence, silence in awe of the power of reality in it’s purist form, truth.  Existence inevitably means the destruction of this planet.  What answers lie behind the shroud that is pulled over our eyes; comforting us, keeping us warm.  What answers indeed, the truth beckons us all from the doorway ever so softly whispering: look in the mirror; I’m over here, please…please.  Yet our ears are deaf.  We can no longer sit by and watch as the thing that we hold most dear is toyed with and tossed away in a fit of selfish disregard. Every one of us is guilty, our parents are guilty, and there parents before them, we have all taken for granted the one thing that still holds meaning in this mundane existence: the World.

It’s time for us to stand up and fight for what is right, and we can all start right at home.  We all have the ability to reduce, reuse and recycle.  Which means each of us is able to buy products that have less waste in the packaging, and reuse plastic bottles for water bottles, and when you’re done with a package that is recyclable toss it into the appropriate recycling receptacle.  (By the way it wouldn’t hurt to pick up trash or recyclables that aren’t yours that maybe are on the ground… it’s not heavy.)

We can all agree that being more efficient about the way we use our energy helps everybody. Each of us can use a healthy reduction in our hydro bill, not to mention the less energy I use the more energy there is for people who need it.  Replace your light bulbs and older appliances with newer more efficient products as soon as possible.

Unfortunately though even all theses things being done isn’t enough to combat the pollution that has and is being emitted from vehicles today. It takes hard work from people like you and I. New technologies and new legislation are making way for cleaner and more reliable vehicles.  As we strive for cleaner burning fuels our future becomes brighter and friendlier. We should all learn from that and try to be brighter and friendlier when behind the wheel of our vehicles. Simple things like: take your time when commuting across the city or town to work, carpool, wake up fifteen minutes earlier, be easy on your gas peddle (your vehicle wasn’t meant for NASCAR), give your vehicle five minutes to heat up in the morning if needed, don’t sit in idle needlessly are all examples of things that should be done but often are not. We have heard this time in and time out back and forth from countless experts and transportation professional’s, it’s time to listen, it’s time to wake up, it’s time to look in the mirror the problem is you, and I, and them…and it affects everyone.  There is a whole world out there that needs our help, please do. I challenge you to get up tomorrow morning and take a long hard look at the rain clouds or sunrise, take it in, and then plant a tree.

Not to name any names, but at most of the schools I was working for over the past several years, the recycling efforts were completely inadequate. Considering the volume of recyclable materials consumed at schools, and the significance of recycling......
