anyone here living a second life at linden? i'm at the abitibi librarium, sitting on a park bench, watching the pond with the "surreal art exhibition" sign behind me. just lazing about, no job, no home, no party clothes. just enjoying the surreal landscape and the surreal people. i designed my avatar to look more or less like me in real life. down to my chinky eyes, hobbit-like big feet, part-chinese skin tone, and the casuals i wear at home. i lost my glasses at the teleport, though...still looking for a replacement. :-)

moon... whatever are you talking about, my huckleberry friend?

Most of the info I have on Second Life comes from SA.  So, naturally, I'm a bit freaked out.  But then I remember that the SA guys will do crazy stuff and make up other things for the sake of poking fun--so then I'm just confused.

And still worried about the furries.

kruu, it's an interesting online 3d rpg site in the simcity tradition. you get to design yourself, your clothes, meet others, interact with them thru chat/im, use a wide arsenal of cg movements and gestures, get a job, earn linden dollars, design and build your own home, even hire others. i don't have the luxury of time to do all that stuff. just enjoying the fantastic sense of the surreal.

oh. the site url. www.secondlife.com is the official entrypoint i think...

bluehot, i dont circulate among the groups and subcultures, i'm just a quiet wraith moving among them. sa goons are at secondlife too. i didnt adopt a furry avatar, but what's so worrisome about the furries? furry culture runs strong among gnu-linux and rpg since the bad ol' days of ascii text and telnet. this might help... furry like me at one of the several secondlife blog sites. im more worried about the goons.

This seems interesting and dangerously addictive....:-)...

i am going to check it out........what if i meet you there, my sweet one?

  • moonriver said on Dec 16, 2006....
ginger, i'm still at work, so just a quick one-liner: yes, i imagine it is as you put it "dangerously addictive". exactly the reason why i haven't invested a lot of time joining groups and job-hunting... ;-) if i meet you there, my figone, i'll give you a hint right now. my initials there are same as here: M.R. and the R is an italian name, as in real life.

  • moonriver said on Dec 17, 2006....
buonanotte too m'lady. if i have time next week, i'll try to rig up a credible werewolf skin, see if i can molest a few nubile girls with my appendages while waiting for our date lol...

  • gingersoul said on Dec 17, 2006....

    You better behave while you are waiting,  werywolfy......{ginger smacks moon on the top of his bushy head}

or you will be too distract to notice my passing by and i will be swept off my feet by a storm of pigeons.... . up to the sky.....when will you see me then?....lol...

Maybe we can recognize each other if we sing some Inti illimani song, my alwaysmorphing one....:-)

(I went there......its huge.....i am still trying to figure it out....do i have to pay for creating my persona?)

  • moonriver said on Dec 18, 2006....
ginger, it's a dizzingly vast world. imagine: 2 million residents, and at any one time, from 5 thousand upwards are online. and since the world is expanding as fast as the residents, you have an almost limitless choice of where you want to go, how long you want to stay, what kind of people you want to meet.

no you don't have to pay a cent to create your avatar. but there are paid accounts that give you a bigger range of choices. i'm a non-paying resident, but i can design a whole range of moonriver personas, from a man that really looks and dresses like me, to a chinese kungfu fighter, to a werewolf, even to a super-sexy tall blonde who chases other girls.

how will we meet? simple -- i tell you the name i used, you tell me yours. then we can send IMs wherever our location is. i know it will be lots of fun. but it will wreak havoc on my work discipline, so i'm limiting my stay there to oh, maybe 10 minutes every day. btw, the site is down at the moment, they're trying to solve some database issues.
