I've learned that life, growing up and hard times brings out who your TRUE friends are.  The ones who understand you, who love you through thick and thin and most importantly stick with you through everything.  So how many friends have stuck with you through good times and bad?  How many friends do you still have after High School is done?

    Good Morning HalGal!

I hope you´re well.  Scusi, I am earmarking, will comment later properly.  I hope you don´t mind.  It is difficult to keep up with everyone posting very interesting posts.

I even posted an open letter.  In it I apologized to bloggers and friends that I cannot manage to blog, comment and respond to all at the same time.

I thhink after the holidays, everything will ease a bit.

    Great post, btw.

    Warm Regards,

    Paper~

Hey halgal:  I have 2 friends from my high school days still.  Some years we keep in touch more than others, but we always find time for each other and that's saying alot after almost 30 years.
I've been fortunate that i've worked with the same group of people for the past 15 yrs, so I also have 3 close friends from there.
It's much harder after high school and college to make those kind of friends that stick with you.  I think it's more important to keep making friends and not think about 20 yrs down the road whether or not they'll still be with you....it's just nice to make them along the way, don't you think?

there's a saying, that the friends you make in college are the ones you keep your whole life. people w/ whom i was very close in high school i don't know that i'd recognize today. people change, halgal, just as you yourself are changing. after all, right now, you're still trying to figure out who you are, and that's a process that takes some people their whole lives.

I still have two girflriends from high school. We shared our grown up life together.

I still have friends from my previous job in Italy and my theater group when i was in high school. These friends are my five knights.

We keep in touch through emails and calls. And we see each other any time i go back in Italy. I could have had more friends if i would have remain there...this is one big regret of my life.

But i did have the opportunity to meet  5 wonderful girlfriends here in Usa as well.......life is good ....:-)

Not mentioning the great people i am now learning to know here at SC....:-)

My Father always said; if you have more friends than you can count on one
hand ! You probably have too many friends !

Now, he added a caveat to that or an explanation. He defined a friend as
one who cares about you, as much as they care about themselves.

I always thought that was interesting and by that guideline, I have only one
friend. He's the guy I traveled with for four years.

We had each other's backs on many occasions, through thick and thin as
it were. To this day we would, well, there is no limit to what we'd do to
help each other and each other's families.

I am careful to call someone friend and I have some friends. A true friend
though is an uncommon thing. I have one.

    Family aside of course.

I agree with your Dad Mobil; true friends, the kind who'll do anything for you, are very rare.
I still have one good friend from highschool (also 20+ years ago), one from university days, and one from my work life. There are several others I call friends, we keep in touch via email, phone calls, and the occational coffee date. These, however, are not the ones you call on when in need.

    Know what I mean?

    To answer your question: 2

However, that does not mean I am in constant contact with either of them. In fact, if not for the internet, my answer to your question would be 0.

Just keep making friends, the more the merrier! (secretlife is right!)
Even if you don't get close to the friends you make right away, one day you may and it'll be worth it =)

None. None from college either. When I move on, I move on. I rarely look back. Not sure why. Guess I am just not that emotionally connected with anyone, and vice versa.

Wow, you know I don't know very many people over 30 who have the same friends they had in High School, they may have one or two they occasionally drop an e-mail to or a Christmas card but even that is just a courtesy.  I have found that my dearest friends I have made after High School, it's amazing that you spend your childhood growing up with people but then it's just that, you grew up with them and once your paths in lives change you grow up and apart.  I guess that's the cycle of life isn't it?  I have no worries, I'm just going through that cycle now and it's easier to say goodbye to the ones you don't even really know anymore.  Formalities I guess, but all in all I'm just accepting that I'm getting older...
