There comes a time in every actor's career when he/she should begin to accept more "mature" roles...I think that should have happened to Sly a good ten years ago. Don't get me wrong, the original Rocky and a couple of the sequels were great, but this is just getting depressing. Won't be going to see it...unless hubby insists on it for our once a week "movie date"...and then I'll probably bitch about it.

The first one of the neverending series of "Rocky" movies is one of my favorite movies. The ending never fails to make me cry. The others got progressively dumber in my opinion. If I can talk B into it, i think I might go see it. Maybe if we go see "Casino Royale" first, he will.

I agree that the first Rocky was the best. I might see this one for that old times sake kind of feel. CW

I am going to see it... only because I think it looks good from the trailer. I just hope that the trailer didnt show all its good scenes.

I have seen every one....of course I will see this one. I am a philly girl, have run the art museum steps...lol.

Rocky is kind of a tradition in our home.  I have to see it!

    Oooooh my goooosh CW! Yeah!

    After this trailer...Yeah! Yeah!

I think I only got to see until Dolph Lundren (sp?).  I was distracted with trying to fit in life abroad and didn´t see go to movies a lot.  I hate synchronized films and am very thankful for DVD´s.

I might borrow all the parts I missed.

How many are they all in all.

Eye of the Tiger!  Man Blast from the Past!!!

Great CW!  First YouTube, huh?!  Great Punch...wohoooo!

    Cinnamon,
I wonder if the trailer shows all the good parts too. I'm thinking it could be good though. My thought is that it could be the last Rocky movie.

    Jenna,
Traditions are good. :-) Who doesn't think of Philly and Rocky when they hear "Gonna Fly Now"? Now, I'm going to think of you too.

    Paper,
I'm not sure how many Rocky movies there have been.  I honestly lost track after the third one.  I love "Eye of the Tiger", too.

    bull,
Are the Rocky movies big in Ireland too?  Sly really hasn't aged well, has he?  I hope that gives the movie some edge.

    silver,
I like the spirit of the Rocky movies.  The only other Sly movie that I really liked was First Blood.

From what I hear in the trailer, the quotes about getting up when being down and all, it seems this movie attempts to incorporate a bit of the Seabiscuit and Cinderella Man movies. I mean, you have a beat up washed away fighter who just doesn't want to face the fact that he is no longer needed in society. It seems this movie wants to appeal to those who are down on their luck and on the verge of giving up. Rocky, like Stallone is a "baby boomer", and hence this movie is made for all of those who are now moving up in their age to see and realize that they can still "duke it out" with the younger and fresher faces. Ofcourse I will see this movie, eventhough I'm only 22 and not quiet old enough to understand what it feels like to feel like my life has lost its meaning. I just like Stallone, because he is an actor who without incredible physical gifts or acting talent has pushed himself to such an incredible level of popularity. I hope the movie is good, but afterall it doesnt really matter because it's not like it has a lot of competition these days.
  • CreativeWoman said on Dec 06, 2006....
Vakfly, I think that the appeal of the Rocky movies is that people love to root for the underdog. He looks washed up and not like he's going to win. Deep down he finds the spirit to pull out a victory at the last moment. He overcomes the odds. That's the appeal for me anyway. CW

No thanks. If I want to look at an old fart with delusions of youthful vigor, I'll go check my shaving mirror.
  • CreativeWoman said on Dec 06, 2006....
    oh lionel,

Let me hug you up and make you feel like a young man.  :-)  I'll always be fonder of you than Sly.

Ah, CW, no doubt in the presence of a vital young woman I'd feel full of  youthful vigor. :rose:

At the risk of sounding the dweeb, even at my age, I have never seen any of the Rocky movies. I would suggest if I did see this particular flick, it would be because hubby picked it up on DVD.

I liked him in Cobra, but I was, say, nine or ten when I saw that.

  • gingersoul said on Dec 06, 2006....

    Are you kidding? NO thanks.....

Jade, i didnt see the first ones either.....and i dont like the kind of movies in which he is in....surely i will not go to see this one........ sorry.....

He never worked any magic for me...:-)

  • CreativeWoman said on Dec 06, 2006....
    Paper,
    Yes, Lionel is quite witty.

    Lionel,
That's because you have some vigor left.  Thank you for the rose.

    Jade,
You make me feel old.  lol  I probaly have a good 10 years on ya.  Cobra was an ok movie.  It's not a favorite though.

    Ginger,
I don't go to the Rocky movies because I am attracted to Sly.  I don't think he's attractive at all. I'm not even a boxing fan.  It's the underdog thing of the Rocky character that gets me.

  • Mamie said on Dec 06, 2006....
I think I will wait for the DVD or PPV, I love the rocky movies but who has time to go to the movies anymore? Plus doesn't it cost like 50 bucks?
  • CreativeWoman said on Dec 06, 2006....
    Mamie,
I am an old relic that likes seeing movies in the theater.  I never buy or rent DVD's.  I go by myself often to afternoon matinees. I justify the cost because I don't buy the DVD's.

  • opinionman said on Dec 07, 2006....
I will definately see it. Probably not in the theater though. My step-dad was a boxer and he got me hooked on all  these movies(i think this will be 6, he fought Apollo Creed twice, Clubber Lang, The russian who killed Apollo, and he fought Tommy Gunn in that street fight.) Any way, after watching Rocky we'd always get gung-ho about losing weight and all. Maybe it'll work this time too.
  • CreativeWoman said on Dec 07, 2006....
    opinionman,
I think that it's great that you share this with your step-dad.  Isn't great when a movie can inspire family memories?
