I appreciate everything you did for me today. I needed important info for the letter of credit requirements so that we could get paid. You guys came through...at the end of the day, no less. Javier, Jorge, Roxanne, and some guy whose name I can't pronounce faxed me the stuff and were happy to help. . You're an international company providing an important services to us and our end customer in China. You apparently do it well or we wouldn't continue to use your services. . One small fucking problem.... . If even one of your employees could actually fucking speak fucking english, then it wouldn't have fucking taken a fucking hour to ask for a fucking simple fucking fax. . But...ah...thanks.

yeah.......ain't it great? I was in a week long meeting last week with contractors who are in India. This is the design stage of a 3 yr multi multi million dollar project. I tried so hard to be able to understand the developers. They hold such critical information for the success of the tool...they can tell us how much customerization is needed and how best to fit our processes into the software....I could not for the life of me understand them.  I could hear the frustration in the voices of others on the call and in the room as time after time they were asked to repeat what had been said.

    It was PAINFUL.

I'm not sure how to do system design when there is such a huge communication barrier. It seems totally crazy that everything takes 10 times as long, but i suppose in the name of globalization, these are the dues we pay?

HK: i work w/ a head office that speaks one language and two factories that speak other languages. there are two ostensible common languages: english is one. and believe me, that ain't quite cutting it.

SL: written communication, i take it, wasn't desirable?

sunsethue: she's a funny lady, that HK. :D

{hugs} for you HK. The language barrier, even when it is the same one, can sometimes be insurmountable.

It's very easy,
Join me in asking people politely to moderate their language when posting on soulcast.
I now sit back and wait for the abuse that is sure to come from those that find what I say, offensive.
