What keeps you going at the workplace?
Is it the money? Is it the work itself? Or is it there are friendly colleagues?
I am really fascinated by what motivates a person to work.

I've quit my high paying job to do something which I find it more satisfying. To me, it is the work that I'm doing that matters most. Not the salary, not anything else.

But to some people, the working conditions can motivate. Nice big office with lots of coffee in the pantry could actually make a person to perform better. Strange!

Or to some, lots of hottie chicks in office could make a guy stick with his employer.

I've been reading this management psychologist Frederick Herzberg of his Motivation Hygiene Theory. He said stuff like achievement, responsibility, advancement, the work itself and the like that motivate a person while other stuff like salary, working conditions, company policy and coworker relationship don't actually motivate people.

So what about you? What keeps you going at your workplace

honestly, the only thing motivating me is the professional pride that comes of drawing a paycheck from these folks. i really don't like my job and am actively seeking a new one. however, my colleagues are good people of whom i'm quite fond.

Right now, i am actually looking for a new job. Honestly all the jobs i had since i moved here in Usa has been only a way to pay the bills. I changed several workplaces and i got so unlucky that the jobs where i met the greatest people and even had a chance to make some friends were the jobs with temporary assignemnts. The longest stable job didint give me any satisfaction personally speaking but allowed me to learn new things.

The only job who combined pleasure, friendships, satisfied pride, ambitions, money, good chance to have a carrier and gave me great professional recognition has been my job s reporter for 12 years in Italy.

Now i am coming from a job as personal assistant for a neurotic, filthy rich, high maintanance level bitchy Ceo of one of the most exclusive interior design firm in the city......i had enough of her pretty soon. Not even the money was making me happy but i had to pay my bills right? But now i am out there again looking for a new job.

Frederick Herzberg claimed that good salary doesn't motivate but it could prevent job dissatisfaction. It's interesting to find people with different needs and how different things motivate them.

I wish good luck to both of you, Silverwhisper and Gingersoul on your search for a new job.

I think I have found my dream job already. And that was 5 months ago, and that was the same time I first registered into Soulcast.

Thanks, silver and ginger. But I will not reveal my occupation here. Who knows if one of my colleagues is also blogging in Soulcast. It's a job where I could meet a lot of people and interact with them, and especially hot chicks. LOL!

Wow...good for you blue! :-) Are you sure you said chicks and not chickens...LOL

i've worked at the same coffee shop for 4 years and my bosses hate me and i hate that job, yet i love it and the only reason why that i can think of are the customers. it's addicting because you see each person for 5 minutes max and you get to have a whole conversation in those minutes. You get to know people without knowing them and the weird things they share is fascinating and random. I used to be super shy and the job has really gotten me to be able to talk to anyone about anything. So, what motivates me to stay at a low paying job for so long? For some reason, I take pride in doing a good job there and the customers and some of the other employees are really cool. ow

    This is new to me....

Pride, interacting with customers, and cool colleagues are motivators.

Today is T day at work....
Leavin' work now ......
Wow, it's Thursday and I haven't, as of yet, gotten past my Monday passive/aggressive mentality...sigh. Thursday, it can't be past three pm on Monday. I just recently returned from leave and the whole mentality of being at work can be described as being...
I suppose, anyway, just quit looking at my coffee ... that'll get you into trouble and you don't want trouble....
A few things I'm struggling with....
