Well, I did it.
Tonight I bought a puppy.

I had an appointment Sunday to see some puppies and although they were cute, they weren't exactly what I had in mind.  (Too small, too furry, not the right color...)

It's really hard to find a breeder in NJ.
I found only 2 with puppies available.
Then one in NY state....bout 3 1/2 hrs from here-

She sent me pictures, but it's just so hard to try to pick a puppy from a kinda crappy picture....the puppies she had were 4 weeks old and nursing on their mother.  I got a picture of their backs.  How do you buy a puppy without seeing its' face?
I emailed her yesterday and she sent me more pictures today, along with a note saying all but two of the pups were sold.  You have to act fast, I guess.
I wasn't feeling hopeful because I still couldn't see much of their faces from the pics she sent...so we were going back and forth.

Tonight I went to the 2nd breeder's house.
I wasn't going to go, because she only had 1 puppy left, and I was sure it was going
to be a wasted trip...
But I get there, and she brings out THE MOST ADORABLE brown and white cockapoo...8 weeks old...big brown eyes, little brown nose, curly brown ears......omg....it had me at hello.  it was that kinda moment.
It doesn't even bark.  It kinda yips....
I sat and played with it for 15 minutes- then I gave the woman a deposit and have to pick it up next monday.

I need to buy a crate and come up with a plan of where to keep it until christmas.
Maybe my mother-in-law?....she works all day though...i don't like that with a puppy
Maybe my sister....she has 2 little boys...i dunno...it might be too much.
I'll think it through.

My daughter is going to go bananas........omg........i can't wait til Christmas!!!!
I hope I can keep this a secret!

Awesome, SL! :) Your daughter is going to be absolutely thrilled!

My neighbor has a cockapoo. Sweet little thing - I always make time to pat her when I see them outside.

hahaha....i figured this would happen the second I read your first blog on puppies.

but....It will be a great addition to your home.....and I'm sure it will get lots of love and give lots back in return.

smiles - I knew you had it in you, SL - K* will be so excited nothing else she gets will matter.
  • gingersoul said on Nov 28, 2006....

Oh, i knew it! Not only your puppy simply needed to bat his eyes to get you at hello, even your daughter ....oh i know how it works....i am soft too sometimes...too soft......but what can we do? Its our duty of mom...lol...

Only a question: a cockapoo? What kind of dog is it? Cocker spaniel and....?

My dog is a pure bastard: half boxer and half beagle. We found his picture on the online site of this big per orphanage place in Dallas, one hour driving from our home... My daughter saw him in that picture, 5 months old and a red bandana around his neck and ...bam...she was in love. And she made me fall in love with the idea of making her happy ....

Now is 3 yrs old. His name is Romeo. Any idea what name you are going to give your puppy? Did your daughter mention any name?

Oh, how can you resist until Xmas?...lol...

We had two Cockapoo's before our current dog. They
are great little dogs. No shedding and that's a nice
    feature. ho ho.
    Boy or Girl?
We had two girls, Moose and Dutchess. Don't ask
about Moose, our son named her !
    Oh The Joy !
  • secretlife said on Nov 29, 2006....

    Balls:  It's a little boy.

My husband bought me a siberian husky for christmas the first year in our first house.  He was a beautiful animal, but his hair?  it was EVERYWHERE!  I'm hoping this little doggie won't shed much....

  • thexperfectximperfection said on Nov 29, 2006....
Black lab and collie *not sure my spelling is right* was the last dog I had. He was named Jack and his hair was everywhere as well. lol. If my mom got me a dog for Christmas I would probably die of excitement! I'm talking free back rubs each night for at least a month. You really are the coolest mom ever for this.
  • BALLS said on Nov 29, 2006....
The coolest Mom ever! Yeah, seems so. They don't
shed at all. It's the poodle in them, no shedding Cool
    Mom !
  • dailyachesandpains said on Nov 29, 2006....

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID IT!!!!!  I can't wait 'till Christmas either, for you! lol!

Do you think the breeder can keep it at her house a little longer?  Would your sisters kids ruin the surprise?  Would they become attached to it?  I'm just a toddler's mom and thinking that my daughter TELLS her secrets.  Like when she sips soda and then tells us that it's a secret, lol.

I'm so happy for you!!!  I don't know how you did it :-)

How big is your house?  I hope it's big, or else that little guy will yip and the secret will be out!

Have you ever watched the movie Ms. Scrooge about a black, female, contemporary Scrooge?  There are a couple of puppies involved in that story, and you'll be guaranteed to cry both times when they come into the picture (two separate puppies about 50 years apart).

    Keep us posted!

    Kudos!
    AJ :-)

haha SL you remind me of my mom when I read this.  She came home the other day telling me about a dog she saw at the shelter, why she stopped i have no clue.  But she said it was so adorable and had her heart.  We have 5 already.

cockers are wonderful pets very easy going and ours rarely barks.

Congrats on the new addition!  My husband has always had a soft spot for Pekingeses--he's had at least five or six of them through the years.  We'll probably get another one once our youngest daughter is a little older.

a tribute to my favorite dog......
they think he may have tick bite fever, and he is only 3 months old this Sunday.......
This is going to be short and sweet, with puppies at my feet...
If you have loved ones or friends serving overseas (or about to deploy), now is a good time to start planning Christmas....
These touched my heart, and brought tears to my eyes....
