The president of the great super power nation is going do descend to the land of the third world where some people still live on a dollar a day.

Bush is going to visit Bogor, a small city just a few miles outside the capital Jakarta on Monday to meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the Bogor Presidential Palace. They’re said to discuss about health, education and poverty as well as some global issues from North Korea and Iran nuclear plan to terrorism. Bush is scheduled to stay briefly, just about 6 hours and off again he goes. He’ll be visiting on his Asian tour after Vietnam and Singapore. This will be his second trip to Indonesia. The first one was when he visited Bali to meet the previous President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

Of course one would expect that he’d receive a warm welcome here in Indonesia. The warmth has been shown weeks prior to his arrival by the Muslims and students. Hundreds of hard-line Muslims have been demonstrating in front of American Embassy wearing Bush masks, carrying American flag and banners saying USA is the real terrorist. That just shows you how much we, I mean they love Bush.

Civilians in Bogor city have also been protesting for Bush’s visit is making their routine lives interrupted. Students might be dismissed for the day (which I’m sure they’d be loving it), street vendors who sell cigarettes, sweet potatoes and corn, ice cream and candies might not be able to earn money for a day and unable to satisfy the hungry locals, employees who aren’t as lucky as to have a day off might have to find alternate ways to get to work. Yes, that is too much hassle for hundreds of people to be caused by one person. That one person is the President of The United States.

Security will also be super duper extra tight. We have to protect our honorary guest by all measure. Main streets around the area of the Presidential Palace will be closed and there will be more than 18,000 police troops deployed within the area. Soldiers equipped with rifles and members of the elite anti-terror squad will be patrolling around the area where the two will meet.

The Indonesian government is said to spend billions of rupiahs to ensure Bush’s security. Of course some people don’t like the idea. The money could be allocated for something more pressing and important in a country where most people are still living below the poverty line. But if we don’t ensure his security, and Bush ended up being shot to death on our soil, what would happen? Who would take the responsibility? Although some people would be jumping up and down in joy if that would ever happened.

Of course there are other ways to Rome. An Indonesian witch doctor has sworn to hex Bush during his visit with black magic.

He slit the throat of a goat, a small snake and stabbed a black crow in the chest, mixed their blood with herbs before drinking the potion and smearing it on his face.

He said the ritual will be performed within one kilometer radius from the palace and would cause Secret Service agents guarding Bush to fall into a trance and believe the U.S. leader was under attack, causing chaos. I am not sure what it would do to Bush, but if he returns with rashes or severe stomach ache, advice him to take X-Ray examination. There might be some nails and pieces of glass inside his stomach. If so, then you know who to blame. You can contact me and I’ll give you the name and I want asylum and citizenship in return.

It’s ironic how Bush is so unpopular in Indonesia while the two governments are actually very close. Indonesia is considered America’s ally in South East Asia in anti-terrorism efforts despite the differences over the Middle East policy.

It is early Monday morning here. Bush will be coming in a couple of hours. I don’t care whether people love or hate Bush, but I, for one would like to be there and shake his hand and say, “Good luck, dude!”

What do you think about his visit to Indonesia despite all the warnings and threats? Do you know anything about the political relationship between US-Indonesia governments? Good comments, bad comments are all appreciated.

It is true that Bush is unpopular in America. However, I remember when we Americans almost ended up having the ball-less John Kerry as President. Good thing that didn't happen; we would all be dead now!

freelance, please knock that ignorant BS off.  bush is a terrible president in every measurable way.

Yes, Bush is a terrible president. He will not allow gay marriage, which colors everything else he does. And we are all going to hell in a handbasket. Please, excuse my anti-American friends, missb. Not everyone thinks the backbone that the president has shown is wrong. They would prefer the testicle-less Mr. Kerry and his distaste for our military. I would however agree that most Asians do not like President Bush, or any American for that matter, after we had to stop their terrorism in the forties and fifties.

I think the situation in Indonesia shows the Islamic mindset. The inability of Islamics to distinguish between us hating terrorism and Islam. They are intertwined because the Islamic extremists pretend to do what they do in the name Allah. God (Allah) stopped smiting people in the Old Testiment days. He does not need their help.

If we get a Democratic president next time, I am sure he/she will be welcomed openly by Indonesians good and bad.

alienated, bush has lied to the american people and is assaulting civil liberties.  he's basically taken big dump on the constitution.  but please, go right on sticking your fingers in your ears, screaming " nyeah, nyeah, nyeah, i can't hear you!"

you never participate meaningfully in political discussions.  it's disappointing b/c i gave you more credit than that.

    Frlncwrtr,
I don't think i have anything to comment on that. I don't really know much about Kerry :)

    ALIEN,
I'm actually neutral in this whole bush thing. I don't hate him and I don't love him either. I have things i agree with bush and things that i don't.

You're correct though, about the islamic mindset in indonesia. They can't really tell the difference between you hating terrorism and islam. The reason bush is so unpopular is mainly because of israel, iraq war, and everything that has to do with middle eastern/islamic countries & international policy. Of course the vocal ones here are the radical ones.

Mind me if I'm talking crap, i don't even know what i'm talking about. I haven't slept last night :/

    Ed + Alien,

Politics and religions are tricky subjects to be discussed. I'm sorry if this post is making it just another post that can cause heated arguments. I didn't mean to. I just wrote down the facts and a little bit of my opinions in it.

Now, are we all cool now? :)

    Missb,

I am finding myself thinking of Soul Casters I read and comment with a lot these days.  You were my thought of the morning!

I turned on my TV to see what time it was, no I don't have a clock in my bedroom, CNN was on.  They were talking about Bush visiting Indonesia and I thought, 'Missb!'  I was just wondering what it was like from your view and not the media view.  Thanks for sharing that!

Also on the news this morning, John Kerry is thinking about running for President again!  It was reported that he doesn't feel that his recent comments about the military will have an impact on his run!

I'm glad to see that Frlncwrtr never ceases to ruin his credibility.

    @missb
Bush is unpopular all around the world. However, he is a lame duck at this point. Shaking hands is probably the only thing he will accomplish.

SW: So what are you saying, you are entitled to your opinion and I am not? That's the bull shit!
  • silverwhisper said on Nov 20, 2006....
no, i'm not.  what i am saying however is that pointless and off-topic swipes like yours (the ball-less kerry bit) will draw the same in return--which is precisely what i did.  i can express myself just as much as you can.  :>

  • Frlncwrtr said on Nov 20, 2006....
    SW:
Yes, it is true, you can express yourself as much as I can, however, I am not the one who is trying to restrict others from voicing their opinions - YOU are!
That is (or appears to be), that you will throw jabs at people who say things that you personally dislike, whether it is your blog or someone else's.

I'm speaking on behalf of myself as well as Alienated here, although I am perfectly aware that he does not need my help, yet the facts remain the same.

  • silverwhisper said on Nov 20, 2006....
freelance, i'm not trying to restrict what you say.  i'm just saying that you're wrong.  you know, just like you're saying i'm wrong.  had i said "shut up" or something to that effect, you might have a point.  i was objecting to the ridiculuous "ball-less" comment, as i have previously stated.

if i see someone saying something i think is stupid, you better believe i'll say something about it, freelance. just as i'd expect anyone else to say to me.

    ed
  • Frlncwrtr said on Nov 20, 2006....
    SW:
Well, I guess I misinterpreted your comment tome to knock it off.  I didn't realize you were merely disagreeing with me, I have no problem with that as people cannot always agree. But, to me, telling me to knock it off is much like telling me to shut up, so that is what I took it that way.

You may feel that the "ball-less Kerry" comment was ridiculous. That is your prerogative!

As far as you pointing out what you feel is stupid goes, that is fine with me. That is, as long as you can take what you dish out because believe me, if I see a stupid comment I sure as hell will say so.

    Settled?

Well they did it......despite a majority of Americans that oppose the proposed socialist health care bill.....they passed it.
