I think the answer is no because its his own kind of people but then I dont know if its possible to be racist to your own kind? Is it?
  • missb said on Nov 18, 2006....
Nope. It's just some kind of an unwritten rule that you can only say 'racist' things on your own race :)

    Cheers!

I dont understand how he could be a racist......isn't he talking within his own race?

He would be only a black guy with a dirty mouth.

Black people have their own club if you like, they call each other Nxxxxr without any thought of it being rascist, cos that's there god given right.
It can be very confusing, but then maybe thats the point!!

Who care? If they asking me, then i react like stupid persone, "what its mean" then they told me the right answer. Sometime you cant judge people because it is a wrong statement.

    bulldog:
I don't see how it can be racist, because it is within their own race, much as if white people suddenly got really weird and started calling each other 'honky,' or 'cracker.'  But then again, many of them seem to pull the race card whenever the slightest opportunity arises (or doesn't).

i think it's perfectly possible for someone to be biased against a member of the same group as him or her self.  i think it's the height of lunacy ot think that isn't possible, frankly.  why not?  why is it so hard to believe that someone can't be biased against his/her own group?

Ed...........i think that between being biased and being racist there is a huge, enormous difference.

I myself have been accused of being too critic or biased toward my fellow citizenship when i might have pointed out some of what i consider their bad qualities but nobody ever called racist against Italians for this. I know that some black people is biased as well toward their people ...nobody calls them racist...

Nor i ever considered myself so. But let a French say the same things i might say toward my people and you will see the reaction.......

  • silverwhisper said on Nov 19, 2006....
bias is the same thing as racism, GS.

Why, because he said black, or the whole statement?  That black man is an ass, that's it. Does it make me racist for saying that? Would the phrase be different if he had said white instead of black? I think that people make comments sound racist, when in actuality, it may have been him describing who he was talking about. Sounds like a far stretch, but in every other culture and language, describing someone by what they are wearing, the color of their hair, or the color of there skin is normal, but it's taken as people speaking in code in the US.

And yes, it is VERY possible for people to be racist against their own kind.

    No, he's just crass.

    Dictionary translation:
Racism is defined as members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of another race....and also...showing discriminatory or abusive behaviour towards members of another race.
Nothing about one talking to another of his own race in said manner...so I guess prejudice maybe but not racist....
  • bullblogg said on Nov 19, 2006....
thanks guys, i still dont get why its 'ok' for him to say that and not a white person..surely he is being racist...very good point made by frln about the 'racists card'..
i dont go around calling my mates-'milky way or Paddy' and i would not expect them to call me it,it would offend me..or am i being crazy????
  • universalstar said on Nov 19, 2006....
bullblog I think the reason for it not to be ok when a white person says it is because you are outside their race, therefor it is viewed as a racist comment.
I think also that in black peoples culture (correct me if Im wrong anyone) it has become accepted to say comments like n**** to each other  because it is possibly the norm. I mean you always hear it said in hip hop and rap music. I dont hear anyone complaining then.
As I said correct me if Im wrong anyone, its just my opinion. I hope not to have offended anyone.
  • gingersoul said on Nov 19, 2006....

**Universal, you are right.....black people can call each other n*** and no one get offended........is like a secret code they have, its cool.....black girls call each other bitches and no one is offended....but  IF a member of a different race use those terms you can see the seeds of racism there....because for them those expressions iare not  more immediately readible, they are automatically considered offensive becz of the person who says them....

**Ed........ Hitler was racist toward the Jewish not simply biase or snob....

  • silverwhisper said on Nov 19, 2006....
GS: in most usages in english, there really isn't a meaningful distinction b/n bias, prejudice, discriminatory or racist.  there just isn't.

"snob", btw, is a classist term and has nothing to do w/ racism.

RollinC is right its not Racist, its just ignorant .It's not racist or prejudice but code.  When a Black person uses that phrase it's code for looking or referring to someone who is doing something out of the ordinary. It could be look that Black Mother F*****R or just MF.  In some cases in can be used as an insult towards other people.

I hate when people get drunk and make a fool out of themselves

No you're not crazy Bullblog!  I would feel that way too, and I think most would.

I think RollingC had the most accurate advice.

GS: You're right too.  It comes from the context of just who it is that is using them.
