One of my close friends is an art student and we often end up in debates about subtle points that a film may have intended. I don't remember what film he was mentioning but I was saying that a lot of the time the "message" that people get out films seems like they were just grasping at straws that weren't really there which makes it hard for me to respect. To which I countered by saying that Terminator is a deeply religious movie.
We begin our movie with a King (Skynet) seeking to prevent the birth of a child prophesied to destroy his kingdom. We have a child who is born without a father (Reese dies before John's birth) then you add on that John Conner's initials just happen to be J.C. as in Jesus Christ. Jesus is also supposed to return to rescue humanity from death who's to say for sure that he'd use the same name?
Add on some bullshit about how alot of people believe technology to be a sin and that John Conner was born for the soul purpose of saving us from our sins and viola you have a theory. Problem is the more I think about it the more it kinda makes sense.
