Let's accept it, crying is an avenue in which we release the tensions that are built within. It is a form of liberating pelt and suppressed emotions. This is but a natural reaction. Who would not agree when I say that it feels good to cry your heart out after each struggle or victory. Wikipedia says that crying is one of the three categories of tears, also referred to as weeping. Accordingly, crying or weeping "is increased lacrimation due to strong emotional stress, depression or physical pain". And it is not restricted to negative emotions; we also tend to cry when extremely happy or laughing.

Normally, goodbyes make me sad that I cannot help but cry. I would always say it is better to leave than be left behind. "Parting is such a sweet sorrow" as Shakespeare puts it. I guess not only does this refer to physical goodbyes, but also permanent goodbyes. Frankly, I also tend to shed tears for extremely dramatic films.

Some people would weep while praying, or trying to recall memorable experiences, and many other reasons. What makes you cry?

    Geez, almost everything these days!
I cry at weddings and funerals -  I cry at church sometimes when a hymm is sung that hits a certain cord in me.  I cry at movies - I sobbed when I saw The Notebook, and Philadelphia and probably 100 others!  Sometimes I even cry when I make love.

I think when you get older, you just meltdown more.  That's the only excuse I can come up with!
  • Lioness said on Nov 15, 2006....
Wow, your tearducts are sure filled these days.. just kidding. You must be a very emotional person.

Since giving birth - anything that has to do with children in pain, miserable circumstances etc. brings tears to my eyes - often of rage.  I don't cry sometimes when I "should" - not sure why.  Maybe like Secret said it's age.  I don't know.  In some ways age has hardend (spelling?) me but in other ways, no.  Like the kid thing.
  • Lioness said on Nov 15, 2006....
Hi BlogObsessed, I am sure many could relate to that feeling, when you see your children suffering when they should not, you get really frustrated and things like that. There are some people who are hard in the outside, like they don't get affected much by some circumstances, but when alone, they cry hard.

With the age thing, a 70yish grandfather we rarely see almost always sheds tears whenever he sees us. Maybe those are tears of joy... I just don't get it when people don't seem to understand his form of expression,  they say he is just being melodramatic, needing attention. But personally, I am touched.

I cry when I get angry...not low level mad...but angry.  I cry at the drop of a hat over some things.  Ther are even a couple of commercials that just get me every single time I see them, no matter how many times I see them.

  • yani said on Nov 15, 2006....
Before I hardly ever cry but since I became a mom, sad movies or TV shows that depict children who are suffering never fails to make me cry.

I cried when I watched The Passion.

I also cry when I'm infuriated.
  • Lioness said on Nov 15, 2006....
Hi Zayda, oh, yes, I know how intense anger can drive a person to tears. The situation, the raging emotions... I wonder, has any of your students driven you into getting really angry?
  • Lioness said on Nov 15, 2006....
Hello yani, thanks for dropping by.. yes, "The Passion" was so intense and gruesome, I shed tears for that as well. Have you noticed how cable tv are showing real-life situations about kids in some parts of the world? Gosh, it makes us appeciate the simple life we have.
  • Zayda said on Nov 16, 2006....
Lioness--No my students never drive me to anger.  They do drive me to levels of exasperation that are sometimes inexplicable, but never have they driven me close to anger.  I would say irritation comes closer to describing the emotions they unearth some days as well.

Usually the kind of anger that produces crying for me is that kind of anger that also induces uncontrolable shaking.
  • Lioness said on Nov 16, 2006....
Zayda: That means you still have tolerable students :-).. I could now imagine. Husband and kids must be really worried when you become very angry. It means you have to drink a glass of water to calm down, right??

I am a cryer, no doubt about it.  Weddings make me cry.  My sisters and I sobbed through the wedding when our youngest sister got married.  I'm 11 years older than she is--I remember giving her a bottle for God's sake.  My niece is getting married in February.  I'll bring enough tissues to pass around.

I also cry when I'm angry, Z.  And boy does it piss me off!  Makes it hard to argue.

Christmas music makes me cry big time.  Actually music really does it to me, like nothing else does.

I cry over everything!!!  Every emotion that comes out of me anymore seems to come with tears!  My husband asked me the other day if I was going thru the "change" early!  I could have shot him if the tears weren't blinding my sight!!  Music, movies, commercials, my kids, my mom, my hubby, all these things can make me cry.  I think I am getting more emotional the older I get.  Perhaps I am weeping for my youth, lol.............
    Good topic!!

Oh boy, I cry all the time...SO much so that my Mother is constantly asking me if I'm pregnant again!

I cry just watching my Daughter sleep.  I cry over the miracle she is.  I cry when I see my Husband be a Father to her. I cry when I see a plane in the sky.  I cry over the war and when they show the most recent fallen soldier's on the news.  I just cried when my Husband told me he booked his flight for our vacation (we're leaving at different times and I'm scared as anything).  I cried when I actually remebered to eat and I burnt my bagel ,that I so badly wanted to eat, and it was the last one.  I cry reading touching posts written by Secretlife!

I cry over ANYTHING and EVERYTHING!

There are a few songs that make me cry, not through sadness but pure joy.  I cry for many different reason's.
Music tends to lend itself well to memories, and when I hear certain songs it is the memory that I cry for or about.
Relationships make me cry! Usually tears of sorrow!
I never listen to sad songs when I'm blue because I would slump into a deep depression. LOL

Missfickle, you said it much better than I did.  Music evokes memories, and it's the memories that make me cry.  I have a recording of the Messiah that belonged to my grandmother.  For many years I have not been able to listen to the Messiah without crying at aome point.  I wish my grandma was still here, even forty years after she passed away.

Silver: what a revelation, seldom do I hear men actually admitting that they cry. You are simply admirable.

MissMimi: indeed, wedding ceremonies can be very touching, tears would definitely flow! Music, yes, especially if it is a memorable one, dedicated to someone special..

rayni2day: crying about ordinary and simple things is not bad at all, although sometimes, people around us wonder why.

daily: are you pregnant again? hehe.. yes, everyday events can indeed touch our hearts and make us shed tears...sorry about the bagel.. and I agree, some posts in SC are really touching..

missfickle:  Songs and music. It reminds us of the past, of certain events, or certain people. Yes, some music makes me weep and sob sometimes, especially when the music is played while I am having big problems.

I hope you don't mind if I type some of the touching chorus of a song, written and sung by a local artist, it's about inner strength, and weakness.

"...they don't know.. that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know.. who picks me up when no one is around....
Coz deep inside this armour, deep inside this armour
    The warrior is a child.."

I never cry. It's not that I don't want or need to cry. The tears just never come. Until the other day, I had not cried in years. My wife comes home from work as a teacher of children with special needs. A young student who was a slow learner and about 2nd grade level was in her class, and she said he was looking down at the floor a long time. She goes to him and kneels next to his desk and asks what is wrong. He lift's his face and she sees tears.

He says he misses his mommy and sister. He tells her they live somewhere else and he lives with his dad. She then finds out later that he lived with his grandmother and she died a few weeks ago. Grandma's son, the father, moves into the house and begins keeping his son (for once). My wife said she was in tears at this point, and at this point in her narrative I am getting gooseflesh and blurry vision.

She said to him that things would work out. Another 2nd grader sitting next to the boy said she would pray for him. He asked my wife if she would pray for him too. She said yes and that he should pray too and that God would work it all out for him so he could be or see his mother and sister.

Later she saw him cring again and went to him. She asked him what was wrong. He said prayers would not work. She asked him why. He says, "How do you pray?" She and I were both in tears at this point. She quietly shared with him a very generic and sincere prayer, trying to stay within the bounds of "Church and State Separation" as she put it.

That was on a Friday. Monday he was not in school. She said she worried sick about him. Tuesday he shows up and is normal, not sad but not happy. He comes up to here and says, "You are my best friend." She asks him why, and he says, "I moved in with my mommy and sister yesterday."

I was nearly blubbering like an idiot at this point. I have never felt so weak and full of emotion. I never cry. I am over 275 lbs and 6'1" tall. I am expected to be a tough guy. Screw expectations. I will cry from now on. Crying is cool. Tough guys should cry more.
  • Lioness said on Nov 16, 2006....
Hi Source, thank you for dropping by. I was really moved by your story..  You said tough guys should cry more. You said it lucidly, and I agree. I salute you for coming out and telling that you have decided to cry from now on.. wow, how marvelous.
  • TheSource said on Nov 18, 2006....
It was an amazing experience for me. Afterwards, I felt something strange, almost like a post-coital glow, but very different and unique, almost refreshing. I appreciate your kind words.
  • Lioness said on Nov 19, 2006....
It's my pleasure Source, It sure does feel good to weep and cry your heart our sometimes... I know the feeling... I suggest you do it more often. :-)
  • sukku said on Nov 20, 2006....
    Hi,
I think it is the state of mind ... that you are in and you tend to cry a lot if you are emotionally sensitive and vulnerable. Sometimes you shed a tear thinking how lucky you are and the blessings that God has given us.
  • Lioness said on Nov 20, 2006....
I agree sukku, if your state of mind is being very sad or very happy like reminiscing some events in the past, then you tend to cry. Have you noticed, there are even times when you are with family or friends, and you talk about really hilarious situations, the tears just flow without you even knowing why-- tears of joy i suppose. Thanks for dropping by!

I can cry over anything that is either heart felt or happy, I cry over movies and cartoons, and yes even commercials.  I also cry over Disney Cartoons.
    Sappy huh?
  • Lioness said on Jan 01, 2007....
Oh yes mom, cartoons too... some cartoon shows have stories that touch our hearts.
  • mom said on Jan 02, 2007....
Yes, mainly it is Ed, Edd and Eddy only because they remind me so much of my husband. Ok I am just kidding.
Actually it is usually Disney Cartoons that get me balling. I am such a kid sometimes.
  • mom said on Jan 02, 2007....
Source, I just read your response, that was so heart warming.  Prayer is an amazing thing. I know it works, I just need to do it more.  What a wonderful experience for your wife.  That little boy will always remember her and what she did for him. Seeing a man cry is one of the things that tear me up and It will get the tears flowing all the time.  I think it is because I know how deeply a man has to feel in order to cry. Some people think that tears are a weakness but in fact it is a strength.
  • Lioness said on Jan 02, 2007....
    LOL, not them!! =)

Oh, I still watch cartoons, I think it is ok.. it brings out the child in us..

The last cartoon movie that made my tears flow was "Finding Nemo". Yeah.... I know that was years back, but really, it was so touching. =)

Ive gone and done it. Ive spoiled Remington. I left him with phil's mom for a few hours while we went and had a drink with Jeff (his dad just died). She was with him for two hours. When I walked through the door I was greeted by my poor little angel...
Being a teenager sucks ass...
Tears well up in my blue eyes tonight, though they will not fall.  My emotions are pulling, tugging at my heart.  I want something, someone to hold.  ...
My diamonds fall too quickly....
