Would you post your picture here on SC?  Assume that no one you know is on here or would ever find you...

I doubt I would in such a large group.  I have done so in smaller groups though.

Heavens, no. I don't want to scare the handful of friends I've made! :-D

I have this little rule I plan to keep, which is not to post my picture in any online profile.  I figure if i make a friend who i'd like to share a picture with, I could always email it.

I probably wouldn't post my picture here. :D Its just that I want to keep people guessing how I look (a bit of a shallow reason heheh..), because mostly nothing else about me is a secret here in SC because what I write here is all about my life. I would like to keep a certain degree of mystery and anonymity. :D

    Cheers Y'all :D

No, I wouldn't post my picture if I had the option to do so here.

Let's make it unanimous.  Not in this big of a group.  I have in much smaller groups though.

No, i dont think so....plus we already told each other to whom we look alike (thanks to Secret's blog)....i think its enough for having an idea of our look......
  • moonriver said on Nov 10, 2006....
soulcast's text-only limitation is easily bypassed by uploading a photo on a site that allows images, then posting the appropriate link here. possibilities...still thinking.

I'm with the majority on this one. The only time I've ever posted a picture of myself in an online forum it was in a costume and so my real identity was indiscernible. I really don't look that much like Sonny Bono.

Interesting. I have my picture up on Orkut and don't really seem to mind. Of course, you don't post your most inner thoughts on Orkut, which may be the difference.
I think it's kind of nice here with no pix - you know no one is judging based on looks, and you take the element out of the equation altogether, which is really important when you're talking about some of the deeper issues. Very different from real life in that way.
Does anyone feel like they are treated differently on here than IRL, and think it might be because there is no picture attached?
  • missb said on Nov 10, 2006....
I have my pics on friendster and myspace, and well, on blogspot too. But like someone said, I don't really bare my soul out in those communities :)
    So I won't :)

    Cheers!

Answering to your last question, Sweet*..... no, i never thought i am treated differently than IRL because here people doesnt know my face ...i am pretty much the same in the way i write compared to the way i talk about myself  in real life, with real friends......
  • Zayda said on Nov 10, 2006....
I should say that I do have my pictures on Inkednation, a site for tattoo enthusiasts and tattoo artists.  But I don't bare my soul there.

And to your question sweet*nothing, do I get treated differently here that I do IRL or on a site where there is my physical presence through my pictures.  To some extent, yes.  Here, people's reaction to me is not to my physical appearance but to my words.  Now, I act the same here as I do IRL, but there isn't the added element of knowing what I look like.  So, the anonymity is a bit deeper here than on that other site.    And it's nice that the interaction here is on an intellectual basis (thoughts, words, feelings) first and foremost.

i think by showing a picture it would change my perspective on who's writing, and i like the anonymity of blogging, where i dont have to think about a person's race, class, or even gender, its just about words and thoughts...
  • CreativeWoman said on Nov 10, 2006....
    I don't think I would post mine.

    Yeah, I would...

    but someone might know me...

so i can always email it

I think there must be differences in the way we are treated here versus IRL.  How could there not be? That would suggest that our physical appearance IRL has absolutely no influence on how people treat us, and that would be hard to imagine.
I know I for one get less attention from men (from a flirting perspective) here on SC vs IRL, which is nice because sometimes the superficial attention is annoying, if not occasionally insulting. If I post a serious blog,  I get serious responses. If I'm playful, my responses are playful. IRL sometimes it doesn't matter how serious you are - if someone already has a less serious image of you and focused on the flirting etc.
