So lately, I've been feeling like crap. I still do. I know it's the
D-word, because I'm quite familiar with what that feels like. I'm
smart enough to know the world isn't REALLY coming to an end even if I
feel like it is. It will pass :)
At least now, DH knows that I'm struggling again, and although I don't
generally like it when he goes dragon-slaying for me, he came up with
an idea that may help me deal with some of the difficult feelings I've
been having and I'm excited to see how it plays out. If it gets
anywhere, I'll keep you posted!
Anyway! I have found the secret to happiness, and I will share it with you in three words: Terry's Chocolate Orange.
Alright, so it's totally cliché for a stressed-out woman to turn to chocolate. But as with many clichés, there is a reason why it's that way! I was first introduced to chocolate oranges when I was around 16. My best childhood friend had gotten married the year before (she was several years older than me) and was pregnant. She came to visit me to use up some frequent flyer miles before they ran out, and brought a couple with her - I think they were one of her cravings or else they helped her manage her nausea. I had never heard of them before. She offered me a slice...I was hooked.
The only place they sold them outside of the Christmas season, where I lived, was a Cracker Barrel restaurant. Here in Canada, they are more in touch with the British/Continental tradition of chocolatiers. That is, all the yummy British and Swedish and what-have-you chocolates that are hard to find in the U.S., they sell here at your average drug store and Wal-Mart. Imagine the variety and quality of chocolate you find during holidays in the U.S., available year-round. Holidays here are absolutely delectable: our local Wal-Mart sells 3 or 4 different KINDS of chocolate oranges (my favorite is the Snowball, made from white chocolate) at Christmas.
After going on a crying jag earlier this afternoon, I realized that the drug store just a moment's walk from our building sells chocolate oranges. And Coke. I have a little pocket money...
And now I'm not crying anymore *grin*
