Some people just can't handle competition, can't they?

Faith Hill didn't really take losing too well, apparently. During the Country Music Association Awards (CMA), she was seen outraged backstage when Carrie Underwood was announced the Best Vocalist of the Year. She threw her hands up in the air and mouthed WHAT??!! and stormed off raging :)

You know what that reminds me of? Joey in Friends when he went to this soap opera awards and ended up losing. Boy, Joey didn't take it too well. He was raging and forgot to put on the 'gracious loser smile' in front of the camera. Later or he kind of put on Kanye West style when he was presenting the nominees, sabotaging the winner's speech. Oh I loved Joey. But I don't love Faith Hill for that.

Her spokesman said that she was just goofing around and that she never intended to insult anyone, especially Underwood. Yeah right. As the nanny said, talk to my hand! Try and watch the video and tell me what you think. It's almost insulting for us to have her or her spokesperson claim that it was just a joke. Even if it was, how stupid could you be? Besides, earlier on she claimed that she didn't know the camera was rolling. Oh please....

I used to like Faith Hill. I am not too familiar with country music, but she's just one of the most famous ones. She's also one of the prettiest along with Shania Twain and LeAnn Rimes. But among all three, my number one favorite is LeAnn.

When Carrie Underwood was still a finalist in American Idol, I fell in love with her. She's my winner. I liked the fact that she's different, coming up with country style music and I think she's got the 'look'. Kind of reminded me of LeAnn Rimes herself. Oh, I love LeAnn. She has a very powerful and beautiful voice.

Of course LeAnn, being the good friend of Faith took her side. That prompted a new skepticism towards LeAnn for me. Was she genuine? I read in some article that Leann was just looking for a much-needed publicity when she did that. But being a good fan that I was, I think LeAnn was just a sweet soul who sticks by her friend in times of need.

A good sportsmanship was never easy. There were times when we just feel like we could scream exactly what Faith screamed -- WHAT??!! But being a hollywood celebrity who gets to earn money more than the mortals could imagine has its downside. It's a price to pay. But if you can't even bite your tongue and suppress your own personal feelings to the public, I don't even understand how she could get 'there'.

I was almost laughing in tears when I watched the video. It's deliriously amusing to watch a female Joey came to live. Of course, Joey was never that bright, but Faith Hill? I honestly thought she's smarter than Joey.

What do you think?

oh, that's a pitiful behavior. Faith Hill must apologize, instead of justifying her act.
  • missb said on Nov 08, 2006....
Oh hi Quid, or should I say Andy? :)

I think so too. She kept having her spokesman saying stuff and hasn't really admitted anything. Oh it's funny, innit?

    Cheers ;)

i think faith's reaction was a natural one and we shouldnt hate on somebody because they want to be recognized as the best in their field. I think more celebrities should show emotion like that, especially at award shows, its great entertainment, and it shows me that they are not just about making money...
  • lazymama said on Nov 09, 2006....
it's a natural reaction.. why should we always pretend to be happy for others if they won something we think we deserve more?? I think people should take off their masks and just show their true emotions...
  • harriedpsychmajor said on Nov 09, 2006....
While I agree it's a natural reaction, it's going to diminish the quality of her character regardless of what she "should" do or "should have" done. That was a pretty immature display, with the shocked face and the wild gesticulations that parents work so hard to discourage in their little children. Plus, it downplays Carrie Underwood's accomplishment.

Also note that Hill's spokeswoman and LeAnn Rimes spoke on her behalf. Did Hill herself apologize to Carrie Underwood? The fact that she didn't apologize personally could tarnish her image further. We can't say that she shouldn't have done it in the first place, because that's no help. There's gonna be some backlash against Faith Hill, and it'll just keep going if she tries to defend herself. It would be easier for her to condede to the fact that she acted with lack of constraint. She knows very well that celebrities are held with incredible regard, and that the stupidest actions could render the most humiliating consequences.

I think it's perfectly natural to be disappointed and show that in some way but in private where it isn't going to come back and bite you in the ass.
  • missb said on Nov 09, 2006....
    Quid,
    LOL :D

    Ed,
    Totally :)

    elle84,
Oh no, I don't hate Faith for that, but I'm not particularly jumping in joy for what she did either. She is, however, entitled to want to be recognized as the best. So does Carrie :)

    lazymama,
Yes, it is a natural reaction. Being happy for other's achievement takes a big big heart. Also we're talking about 'public figure'. Being one requires one to act or behave a certain way. So in that case, Faith 'belongs' to the public. That's what public figures are paid for, so to speak. So IMHO, to lose 'gracefully' kinda comes with the teritorry :)

    Harried,
I completely 100% agree with you. You've made my points :)

    Alyss,
Yes, I agree. In private would be better :)

Thanks for reading and commenting guys!!

Missb, great post. Thanks for putting up the link for the video.

I watched some of the awards and i am glad Carrie won. She has a powerful voice and a long carrier in front of her. But Faith was the Queen..Queens and Kings don't like being kicked out of the throne.

It happens everywhere. I have a lot of examples about people who believe they are the Queen/King. Even here in SC......

Its a natural reaction...when you have been on top of the game you end up believing that noboy would ever kick you out of there. It can happen in any situation of life: even in friednship. How many times we end up asking " Why my friends prefers her or him at me? I used to their best friend". It happened to me at work several times. I was the newbie and i was doing well so some of my collaegues didnt take it gracefully at all. They even started some nasty rumors about me.

But, as you pointed out, we are normal people. The ones in the shwobiz should know better. They know they are closely watch, always, even when they go to the bathroom. I guess Faith was SO convinced to be still the Queen that her ugly reaction shows only how much that conviction bypassed her usual awareness of being a public person.. She should  have kept it for her private moment.

It does take some seriuos shining from her...but why should she apologize? i would apologize to myself. Not to Carrie. And somehow to my fans... Its just a competition but her fans...i guess they like her especially as a human being,..country music fans are known for their visceral passion.

    Hey Ginger,

Thanks dear :) LOL...I understand what you mean with the king and queen syndrome. Kinda hard to overcome huh. Once you're on top, you'd think that you'll stay there forever. But what comes up must come down :)

Faith should have known better. Nothing in hollywood stays too long, really. New comers are coming in every second and ready to take over your throne. Although I'm wondering about your reference to the king/queen people on SC :)

Those nasty people you woked with were assholes. They can't stand competition and just jealous of you. Bummer huh :/

I agree with you on Faith. She should apologize atleast to her fans, I think. But of course, first and foremost she has to 'admit' first :)

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Cheers ;)

Hi missb...Happy belated B-day. I am a HUGE country music freak. That's all I listen to. Faith, believe it or not, was joking..mugging for the camera. I heard an interview with Martina MacBride who was there. Faith was joking...for the photogs. She said they know all the cameramen as they are at at all the country "events" and was not serious. She felt very badly about the whole situation and apologized to Carrie. Faith is a lady and has won her share of awards. Many times things are blown out of proportion, and this was one. Maybe it wasn't the smartest thing for Faith to do, but she has a sense of humor. Take this for what it's worth. BTW...to me 28 is still young...and I'm sure you are very mature, unlike some people I work with;) Thanks for the post.
  • missb said on Dec 06, 2006....
    Hey there MJRadziemski,

Thanks for stopping by :) So faith was just joking? Well, if it's true then it's all good.

28 is still young? Somehow i doubt it, but then again, i feel young at heart ;) Anyway, glad you found the post interesting.

    Cheers :)
