I have an hp psc 1310 series printer that refuses to print. It's a printer, scanner, and copier combination.  It worked one day and the next it didn't.  I get two different messages. One tells me that I have a paper misfeed and the other tells me the printer cartridge is stalled.

Paper will draw half way through and stop.  I remove it and it pulls in another sheet of paper in the same way.  I clear it.  Then the printer cartridge will not move across the paper.  It acts like the paper is blocking it and makes a terrible clunking sound.  However, if I open the cover the cartidges will move across to the center position.

I have cleaned the printer inside and out.  I also used compressed air to blow it out.  I took the printer cartridges out and cleaned them off and put them back in.  Nothing seems to help.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Would uninstalling it and then reinstalling it do any good?

Thanks,

CW

    how old is your printer?

Hm... my best guess is that there is a problem with the roller of the printer.

But before you check out the roller you could try to do the following things (just a suggestion)
    1. Try to do a system restore to a time where your printer last worked. (completely reversible)
    2. If this doesn't work, undo the restoration and then try to uninstall and install the printer. Just be sure you have the CD/drivers.
    3. If this doesn't work, try calling tech support of HP or if its still under warranty, try to consult your vendor.

    hope those things help!

I've done this CW.....to rule out the software and point more to the hardware as the issue-
    Uninstall the software.
Get another copy of the driver-
If you still have the originial software that'll do, otherwise you can go online to the website, and
normally they'll let you download the printer driver.

    Reboot, and see what happens...

    Secret and dazed,

Thank you.  I tried your suggestions and am now printing again.

I gave it a good cleaning and then uninstalled and reinstalled it.  I'm not at perfect performance, but I'm printing.
