The page you were looking for no longer exists

Firstly this idea was inspired by Mr.Mike if not for reading his blog I wouldn't have thought of this.

If you were in a situation where you could run for president what would your platform be, what would you be willing to sacrifice to acheieve these goals.  I'll start off.

Right off the bat I would try to negotiate with the religious citizens.  I might find them repugnant but honestly I can't win if they provide a united front against me.

My major goals would be:
Strengthening the US military to protect the US:  The US Military would again have the man power to actually carry out multiple missions around the world.  I would begin by giving more money directly to the soldiers in the form of raises and programs for their familys like the Crosby-Puller Act which would allow injured soldiers to continue receiving combat pay while they were hospitalized in in the states.

Immigration Reform: I would crack down heavily on those who hire illegal aliens while actively sending illegals back to their countries of origin when possible.  I would try to get an amendment making American born "illegals" no longer citizens.  Once I had accomplished all of this I would grant amnesty to all those in the country.

Education: The US take serious strides toward becoming the world leader in education again, not just on the university level where we are still rather dominant but also on the public level.  I would begin by visiting other nations and studying what works for them.  That said I would want smaller classrooms, more teachers and more children being failed and or held back.  I would advance people through grades based on their ability to pass tests, there would be an "entrance" exam issued every year to every student to assess their individual ability so that inteligent kids wouldn't be held back.

National Budget:  You can only spend more money than you make if Katrina happens or Kim Jong Il starts acting ill.  Otherwise you have a fucking budget make it work period if that means raising taxes so be it, if it means cutting funding to some programs (hopefully meaningless ones) so be it.

English only:  Ballots and licenses (drivers specifically) would only be issued in English.  No official US legal document would be done in any language but English.

Foreign Oil: Drilling in Anwar and off our coasts would be allowed as well as more refineries allowed to open.  To begin getting us off of foriegn oil.  There would be a concentrated effort to discover/develope a viable alternative fuel source.

I'm sure there are other important issues but that is my current big list.  My basic goal here is for all of us to mention what our own platforms would be and our stances and then open a series of threads where we hold "debates" on our various stances.  I personally enjoy sparing with bloc but I wouldn't mind a few new people stepping in from time to time.  Its kinda funny when I read a post from somebody saying something like I'm really enjoying this debate.  But they don't add anything they just like watching me and Bloc go round.

    the silverwhisper platform:

foreign policy: both domestically and abroad, US interests require defending.  and it is in our best interests to be able to trade w/ those nations whose markets thirst for our goods.  should those interests be threatened we will take swift, decisive action.  in the middle east: extend support for israel (what, we care who we piss off?); use dialogue and diplomacy to engage problems in north korea, china, africa, etc.

domestic policy: economic might is the juggernaut that carried this nation so far.  the right to earn and spend in turn are driven by our freedom.  therefore, i would seek full support for eliminating legal marriage and replacing it w/ civil unions for all adults, straight or gay; i would support making tuition for higher education at least partially tax-deductible; i would support an increase in the proportion of defense spending that actually affects soldiers' quality of life (benefits, housing, pay); i would support mild privatization of social security b/c the private sector is always more effective than the public sector; i would support campaign financing reform to minimize the impact of extremist wacko positions and dollars.

more stuff as i think of it.

I would simply say Be safe, Take care of our stuff and each other, and Have Fun. I would make sure that the states eliminated the "bad parts of town" by enforcing the laws that keep us safe. If the whole country wasted less and cared for others, I think we could eliminate some of the poverty and homelessness (I hear some people don't want a better life and that would be okay). If someone is a workaholic and they want to work 60 hours a week, they could and if someone else is a student and can only work 15 hours a week they can, and anyone who wanted to work could find a job, working the hours they need, so that they would have time to have fun and spend time with family.

As for international stuff- the media does not tell all that happens so I could not accurately judge the effectiveness of what is happening now, but I know it is not safe. The morale is down and some of those people are tired of hearing about the "greater good" in those circumstances. Don't know what anyone could do, not even the president. The president does not make all the decisions and too much is left up to congress and voters to do everything that needs to be done.

"If I was president, I'd be elected on friday, assassinated on saturday, be buried on sunday, then go back to work on monday..."  -Wyclef Jean, the Fugees-

I would get rid of the IRS, get rid of the Federal Reserve, get rid of federal income tax, give the power of printing money back to the Congress, get the dollar back on the gold standard to start.

I would start an isolationist policy after closing off our borders.  Promote self-sufficiency and screw foreign interest.

Downsize the military-industrial complex, ultimately phasing out the military all together(except for maybe the UMAVs and bomb-disposal robots).  Focus on humanitarian issues instead of issues of conquest.

Repeal the Patriot Act, oppose the national ID system, arm every single citizen over the age of 13, legalize all drugs.

How's that for turning the country upside down?

"...I would try to negotiate with the religious citizens, I might find them repugnant..." ...holy cow manure, SeanRenaud,  you really feel that way about religion? Oh my God, please guide SeanReanaud's mind, that he may not feel any repugnance towards good Catholics and Muslims, and Born Again Christians and Mormons, and Protestants who, he might have forgotten, comprise a sizable percentage of the US Military.

I don't care how many Marines are religious it doesn't ake me find the religious ones any less repugnant.
