I spent the past two weeks with my wife and sons in a campsite three hours away from where we live. It was an overdue vacation which until the final moment I was still unsure would push through. The certainty of it happening became apparent only a few days before the intended trip, so the final plans were hastily made just two days before the grand vacation.

But I am glad things turned out well. I went fishing and bush walking with my two boys. My wife and I went night swimming in the nearby lake.

We all had a blast.

I am so glad I took time out to be with my family.

hi lab. i am happy that you had a successful bonding trip with your family. such trips should be encouraged  among families, don't you think?

last april, i travelled overseas with my wife and daughter. it's our yearly tradition. as usual, it was full of memorable moments, laughter, and excitement. we were away for three weeks. i am looking forward to spending another vacation with them next year.

Hi lab.....I know what you mean.  Some time spent with your family away from all the usual  distractions really can be something special.

We used to do a lot of camping with our kids....some years as much as three weeks plus a few weekends.  But as the kids got older and more involved in activities, it became more difficult.

Now, the only camping we seem to get in is a week at a remote campsite on a mountain lake in a nearby state.  It's a fairly primitive campground, although they do have flush toilets (they generate their own electricity).

I have always enjoyed these camping trips because we got to spend so much time together as a family.  Whether is was swimming,  sitting around a campfire, playing cards, going out for a paadle, or scavengering through the dri-ki, we made special moments that we all remember.

My oldest is 21 and still went with us this past summer.....but my wife and I realize that each of these trips could be the last for one or more of the kids.  When that happens, we'll treasure the moments we had and hope to make new ones, wherever that may occur, that work with their lifestyles.

quid and secretlife - I am ecstatic over the recent vacation we had. I was equally surprised that my boys, although already grown-up, still found it enjoyable to spend time with my wife and I. The moments we had would surely be remembered for a long time, perhaps a lifetime.

scaly: I'm thrilled that you've had the same experience. Is it not just great to be out there with nature - and with the people you love most?
