Asian Pears (Nashi): One of the best fruits I have ever eaten.
Due to the lack of a better topic, I have decided to write a brief review on one of my favorite fruits of all time- the Asian Pear.
Asian pears are not simply pears from Asia. Though they have the consistency of a pear, they are a bit softer and a bit more sugary; Asian pears won’t give you a sugar rush, but they have a nice, sweet texture and are easy to bite into. A more obvious distinction from the pear lies in the fact that Asian Pears are round instead of teardrop shaped; while I’m not sure if this improves the tatse of the food, you can pass them off as apples pretty easily- I would advise putting one in a fruit basket and seeing the reactions of people who take it to be some kind of apple.
Their taste, round or not, is nothing short of spectacular. Whereas apples are hard, somewhat acidic, and have skin that often gets caught in between teeth, Asian pears are soft, non-acidic, and seem to have a thinner skin that sticks in the mouth less often. Perhaps the only drawback this fruit has is its overall messiness; as the fruit is very watery, sinking your teeth into a Nashi is equatable to biting a water balloon. Thus, you may wish to eat your Nashi in private, or, at the least, take smaller bites.
If your local grocery store has any Asian pears in stock, I’d highly recommend that you try one. This is a fruit that shouldn’t be missed.
