I wrote this blog in June this year for another site but decided to post it on here when, a few days ago, the boy next door called to tell me that someone had hit my car and the passenger wing mirror was hanging off.
Maybe I'm just too freaking honest, but if I had done that to someones car, I would have tried to find out who's car it was. Failing that, I would have left my phone number under the windscreen. I'm bloody sick of paying out all the time for other peoples recklesness and dishonesty.
On the one hand I think that it doesn't pay to be honest but on the other, I don't want to lower myself to their standards.......It just seems that nowadays, when it comes to money, people have no standards or respect for others!!

About 5 weeks ago while driving to work, I was involved in a collision with another car. The other driver was at fault and admitted liability, so although causing me a lot of inconvenience with regards to work, saved even more hassle by our respective insurance companies having to argue over who was at fault. I was advised by several well meaning friends to claim compensation for whiplash injuries, but as I was unhurt, I said that this was dishonest and could'nt do such a thing.
But there are obviously plenty of people who can as I was reminded today
Yesterday while driving to work again, I was involved in another collision. This time I was to blame. She was turning into a house driveway and as she didn't indicate and she braked suddenly, I could say in my defence that she was to blame, but in the eyes of the law, as I ran into her, I am at fault and admittedly I was driving too close to stop in time.
Her sister in law was a passenger in the car and after we had confirmed that no one was hurt, we stood in her driveway to exchange insurance details. While we were talking, the passenger told the driver that she might have some front end damage to the car as she had mounted the pavement and hit the kerb as she tried to turn into the driveway too soon. The driver responded by saying that she had nearly driven past, which confirmed that she had stopped suddenly.
The driver was from out of town and didn't have her details with her so I took her phone number saying that I would call her the next day when I got home from work. So today I called her, and guess what?...... they are both claiming for whiplash injuries!! How about that??!
Apparently they BOTH developed neck pains later in the day.
Now you might call me cynical but this wasn't a high impact collision, we had just turned a corner and were still picking up speed, I had only just got into third gear and was doing 25mph.
It just so happens that one of my colleagues who was on duty with me that day, lives 2 doors away from the passenger . This is a bungalow in the countryside in a village of about 20 properties so is worth considerably more than my house. My colleague told me that she has a well paid job and her husband is a police officer so they aren't short of money. They are it seems, short on moral values. I on the other hand, although not poor, am not wealthy and have to work hard to pay my mortgage and utility bills..... on my own. I accept that I will probably never have a lot of money, but I will always have something that they will never have..... Integrity!

P.S.. I will be interested to see if she tries to claim for the front end damage which she caused herself.
