I am quite amazed at the amount of fighting going on here on Soulcast, The BLOGWARS. Quite a interesting phenomenon. With fighting I don’t mean debating, or even heated debating, I mean fighting. I really could understand what was going on but I think I have kind of figured it,

It seems to me that the tooth and claw fighting has come form peoples fear of losing their anonymity. So this brings us two questions:

1. Is it really safe to share all you innermost thoughts on the internet. Blogging promised a channel where you can voice your feelings and concerns, the type of stuff you wouldn’t tell a priest in a confession booth, all under the impression that no one will ever find out. But is this really so and have you thought about it.
2. Most of the fighting started when people communicated outside of the blog over internet, shared personal homepages and emails, in the spoken/unspoken understanding that this newfound information would be held in the same secrecy that the blog environment provided. It seems some people may or may not have respected this secrecy and anonymity, should you trust a total stranger with your personal information?

maybe it's just because i havent been here for all that long
but i cant recall seeing any figthing here
in fact people seem supriseingly agreeable and friendly here compaired to anywhere else i've ever been - both real life and binary world

Well it only goes to show that you can't please everybody all of the time. I have often held the position that whatever you post as personal blog out there is for everyone's reading consumption.

So like it or not, some will admire you for it; while others will hate your guts for it. Blog media is just like any other form of media, the only difference is that it's more permanent and transparent. So the general rule is never to blog anything that gives away your confidentiality.

So whose fault is it, if they didn't like what you posted?

Thanks guys, but I am not talking about normal disagreements or different opinions, it seems to me some people may have geopordised some other peoples privacy after they comunicated externalyt to SC. Why this is such a bad thing I do not know, but it seems some people do not want us to know who they realy are (is geaorge bush blogging here?)

I agree, most people I met here have been very well mannered.

Then there are those few who come on here to be all macho, looking for trouble, which is the silliest little girl thing I have ever seen, but thats a different post I have all together.

    The nack.
Yeh there are some people who just want to fight, for some sad reason, hijacking bloggs and spoiling threads.
There are others, I have noticed too, who like you say have shared their personal information - a big no no, it would seem.
I've even noticed a blogg written about me by a person I do not wish to mention, who seems to be obsessed, luckily I haven't shared personal details, and seeing this particular blogg, really showed me how fragile, some peoples minds are!

We're completely anonymous behind these usernames.
We know each other by these names but never had a picture of whom we are dealing with.
There are some folks here that wants to express their rudeness and just want to create conflicts.
Some creates a complete 180 degrees turn from the opinion and comments of the others.
Thus creating a more and wider conversations and resulting to popularity.

I was convicted as a SPAMMER here but I did not actually want to create such, create an issue or tell the members how rude I am.
My intentions was to attract the attention of the members to surprise and create camaraderie with someone.
And test my bot here in SC.

Anyway, it's fun to be here.
Just be responsible! That's all I can say...

I'm agreeing mostly with FD...if you put up a blogg and someone doesn't like it...who's fault is that?

Otherwise, this is a good place to express ideas, have fun, and anonymously meet people.

I think alot of freedom comes from not having the anonymity too, for some reason. On the blog I actually work at once in a while, on wordpress, i have my email and IM name boldly at the top, and when I comment on others blogs it is with my real name. Doesn't stop me saying what I intend to say though.

    Maybe its just me

Building on FD's comment... Many people write about very sensitive topics; therefore, they attach a lot of emotion to their writings. If it's an especially sensitive social topic, dissenting views can often be interpreted as an emotional affront, like saying "this person disagrees with views I hold dear, therefore (s)he must be against me."

Then there are people who are annoyed by input that doesn't demonstrate too much knowledge about the topic in question. This was the reason I stopped posting on AOL's video game message boards. I would express an opinion, and since I didn't consider myself a huge gamer, my opinions would seem a little green to the others. But I don't see too much of that here, and I'm glad.

As for threatening anonymity, I'm not sure if that's an especially apparent problem. We publish our thoughts at our own risk, but many of our experiences or opinions won't really reveal our identities, depending on how radical, far-fetched or unique they are.

People send people hate mail on myspace all the time, but at least that stuff is private. I think it must be really embarassing when someone attacks you on your blog because everybody can see. I think that's why people get so angry and upset.
  • missb said on Oct 09, 2006....
    I've noticed that too.

Some people are just bad... just like in real life :/

    Cheers!

Wow... I am new here and didn't even consider that there would be "fights". That's too bad. If someone wrote something I didn't agree with, I'd likely ignore it unless a debate was invited. But that's no reason to get into a fight. Why do people get their panties in such a knot anyways. ;-)
  • thenack said on Oct 10, 2006....
To Everyone, It seems most people have no problem with the concept that some will agree with you and others will not. Thats actually quite cool becuase I feel that is the starting priciple to have a proper debate about anything. Then we progress to people that get angry because of a difference in opinion, I feel still acceptable, we can't cut emotions out. Then we progress to people that are rude from the start, not so cool but still to be expected (this is even fine is they are prepared to take the same treatment in return)...

Then we get this issue I was refering to, people, for some unknown reason, flipping out because other people threatened their anonimity. This is the part that intrueged me, we are not exatly discussing anything that is so bad. Thats the part that I found interesting, the venom with which people were protecting their anonimity, perhaps Osama bin Laden is here amongst us, blogging from the underground!

Here is a question that deserves an honest answer. If a man got into a fight with a woman and she was the agressor do you think it is wrong to hit her back?...

For those of you that are thinking this is going to be simply a step by step approach to building a blog, you are mistaken… and it is very important that you understand the difference....
