I was watching Bravo today (one of my favorite channels) and i almost dropped my panties....

Prince was on. No, no the Italian prince from The Bachelor (go to read momsrock post about it, it's interesting and funny).

No, just him. The diminutive Prince. One of my favorite artists ever.
And i remembered the first of the his two concerts. The second was in Dallas 5 years ago. My husband gave me the tickets as a present for my b-day....Prince has been our love soundtrack.....he didn't agree with him about his sex appeal but he loved to dance his music with me...

That first concert was in Milano, Italy.
I was out of my body for the excitement when finally i took seat in the arena. It took me 8 hours of train to arrive there from Roma.
That concert has been special for another reason: me, my brother and my sister for the very first time did something together....and we didn't even kill each other....just talk about the magic bond of music!

The tickets went sold almost immediately that year. The only date available was Milano.
But nothing could stop me.

It was electrifying, sexy, amazing, mind bubbling, outrageously good, too short, too short.
I loved it.
That year i got lucky. I went to other great concerts: the best have been Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie in Roma.

And one night i went to the Terme di Caracalla in Roma, the Ancient Roman amphiteatrum.......it was June, there was a huge yellow moon above me, the sky was dark blue, we were sitting on stone seats old thousands of years and on the stage was playing the classic orchestra I Solisti Veneti with arie from the Baroque period.

I cried.

Great concerts are like a perfect cappuccino. I went to a different kind of concerts, small or big, classical concerts, opera, small recital, choir a cappella.......each music has its own way to touch our heart.

Which one has been the best concert of your life? Or the worst? Or the one you will always remember?

honestly, as weird as it may sound coming from an american, the best live performance i ever saw was probably a production of don giovanni at the met.

best concert however was probably bluestraveler back in 1990. or maybe '89, i don't recall.

    Oh......Mozart.....
I saw Don Giovanni a Roma al teatro dell'Opera...wonderful...yes, for being an american... kind of weird...:-)

I went to New York last July...one of the many things i wanted to see was ANYTHING that might have been on a the Met during our only week in town.

I have not been lucky. No tickets available for that week...so i saw it only from the outside...

Another great concert has been Elton John at the Madison Square Garden years earlier ...

I would have to say the band who is still, and was formerly, known as U2. The show wqas in an open air staduim in Greenpoint Capetown on one of thois e absolutely magical evenings you get there sometimes. Its truly surreal. Mix in people singing one so loud that Bono just stopped and smiled. That was awesome!

Oh ginger.....long ago - since i'm in jersey, we'd take the trains into Madison Square Garden as often as we could to go to concerts when I was a teenager and into my early 20's-

I saw Led Zep in 1977
i did that in lieu of my senior prom!

Queen in 1978...before anyone knew what Aids was.

I've seen Springstein, Billy Joel Fleetwood Mac -all really really great.

But my favorite concert was in 1979 i think....Jethro Tull.
It was my favorite because i went with someone special...scalped those tickets and paid a fortune for 3rd row center....was great.

sw: i saw bluestraveler at the state theater in new brunswick in 1997 i think....have you done that venue?

btw ginger.....i am a Prince fan, although i've not seen him in concert.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2006....
Secret......really? A Prince fan? Wow....what can i say more? LOL.... another coincidence....

Should we start a SoulCast Prince Fan Club?.......LOL

I would have cut my right arm to go to a Queen concert....never had the opportunity...
btw, they are my mom favorite band ever....

Billy Joel went to Roma last month, he played in a stage in front of the Colosseo.....my friends went to see him....they told me he has been simply magic....

And Jethro Tull? Aqualung is one of my favorite album but i never saw them in concert...damn...

ok, but my last two concerts were.......and don't you dare laugh at me......American Idol tours. I saw this past summer and the one before with my oldest and her girlfriends.

I was the designated 'grown up'.
LOL....i'm telling you, getting old SUCKS

I'm afraid that my concert going life ended a long, long time ago unless you count the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

As a college lad I saw the Beach Boys and the Allman Brothers. Also, Canned Heat and Muddy Waters. I think that Edison was still recording on wax cylinders at the time.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 04, 2006....
Secret.....stop the train! American Idol tours?
What happeend to you? Did they kidnap you under the threat of destroying yoru Prince's cs?
    I feel for you........LOL

Scaly.....i really envy you Santana and Yes, and i believe Browne has been a stunning concert too.....i really like him.....
uhmm, it seems you had quite a wild side in your youth.....thanks for the tip about Anderson...but as Secret pointed put growing up sucks even because people ends up not having anymore time to do this kind of stuff.....and being frorced to go to watch American Idol....;-0

lionel......lets' think positive... at least Edison gave us the freedom to listen to the music any time we want....when and where we want...
What did you listen from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra?
  • quidnunc said on Oct 04, 2006....
saw Sting (many years ago), Michael Buble (two years ago), and M. Bolton (last year) - all great artists!

that was at the same time The Pretender came out.....and Cold as Ice....lol cutting edge Secret, cutting edge.

LJ, in my husband's secret life he sings Beachboys....
  • gingersoul said on Oct 05, 2006....

Scaly, yeap.....we oldies need definetely some more time to regain our energy but our ears are always open, right?

SL and silver.....funny you mentioned N.Brunswick....i was driving in that direction last July....
  • secretlife said on Oct 05, 2006....
hey ed, it's not so bad these days.....and that theater gets alot of good stuff...
  • silverwhisper said on Oct 05, 2006....
i'm not saying it doesn't; it's just not particularly close for me. that, and i have a bad reaction to college kids and IIRC, isn't rutgers there?

    ed
  • secretlife said on Oct 05, 2006....
yup....college town; the theater is smack in the middle of downtown.....but they've done alot of work on the area, and i actually was pleasantly surprised.
  • lioneljay said on Oct 05, 2006....
Ginger, I go to hear the CSO at least once each year. During the Solti era some friends and I had season tickets until we split up to get married and do similiarly foolish things with our lives.

SL, anyone who sings Beach Boy songs (even in secret) can't be all bad.

Recently a friend was telling me how much fun she had at a Tom Jones concert near here this summer. Any women here ever go to hear Tom? Throw your underwear?
  • gingersoul said on Oct 07, 2006....
    Lionel....never went to a Tom Jones concert....sorry, never listened to him if not casually at the radio or in tv.... so no, my panties didn't land on his stage....;-;

Beach Boy songs are fun to listen to....i agree with you...my ex boyfriend loved them....
