Apparently, some people think that I'm actually racist, and that I'm the the personification of evil because I'm a white male who prefers to date Asian women.
Here's the comment I received on one of my posts in which I was pondering if my preference was a fetish or a preference. Judge for yourself, please. The commenter was anonymous:
"Dude, you get shit because you're white, and unfortunately caucasions/whites/europeans have a long history of colonialism and racism - you are the inheritors of this legacy. This subjugation is not only confined to the world of material goods; its also ideological. Ever heard of Madame Butterfly? or the term "penetration of the East?" Caucasians (mainly Europeans and Americans) have had a fetish with the East, portraying the entire region as "feminine" and "docile" since the early 1800's, perhaps even earlier. Historically, the "west" viewed the "east" as a place replete with romance and intrigue and inscrutable customs. While I do believe love transcends racial boundaries, its hard for me to see white men going after asian women, at least most of the times, as anything other than the perpetuation of this "fetish."
This is exarcerbated by the fact that in line with this portrayal of Asia and people of Asian descent as feminine, asian americans are accordingly devalued and disparaged by mainstream America, and arguably everywhere else in the western world. While America has truly been a blessing- what America stands for is superior to any other nation - I cannot help but see the lack of acceptance of Asian Americans males in mainstream America. Sure we are beginning to see asian american women more, but the broadcasting companies seems to have a policy portraying Asian americans males as anything other than as gay or "feminine," if at all. Case in point: a friend of a friend, an Asian American, is an actor but only seems to get roles as a geek or a homosexual. What's up with that? The lack of such opportunities suggest that perhaps this ideological perception of the East and thus of Asia still abounds, though I know it is less prevalent in areas heavily populated by asian americans.
Moreover, I find Asian american women who only go after non-asians or any other women who hate on their own ethnicity as complete sell outs who have bought into the ideology expounded by the mass media such as MTV."
So there you have it folks, all I did was proclaim that I am more attracted to Asian women than any other race of women, and I'm suddenly the evil conqueror. I'm not taking away "your women" and Asian women who end up with non-Asians are NOT sell-outs. How can you be so narrow-minded? At the end of the day it's all just human attraction, so suck up your bitterness, go date who you want, and leave my preferences alone!

People who get angry at people who branch out of their race are really close-minded. It amazes me how many interracials couples there are in the San Francisco, and yet I still feel stares when I walk down the street with a non-white man who looks like he could be my boyfriend. It's unbelievable. They should get their heads out of the ground and learn to embrace tolerance. -

Sadly, there is a cause and effect for your actions. It's fine that you have an attraction for Asian women, but on the flipside, Asian men lose out because their pool of prospects gets smaller. I hear about this all the time from Asian men, and it's frustrating to them! -

A fetish is an unconditional preference. So if you only go for any Asian women, ugly or pretty, then you have a fetish. If you are selective within your Asian women pool, then you merely have a preference. That's what I think. -

Wow, great minds. I was about to post an article in praise of Asian women. I have no fetish for them, I just think Asian women are all that. My biggest exposure to Asian women was in Vietnam and Thailand. And Japanese women. Yum. I have been happily married for years now, but Asian women still catch my eye. Opposing dating and marrying across races is stupid on so many levels. There may be problems socially, but that only results from centuries of thinking it is wrong when it is not. The only reason I would oppose my child dating or marrying someone from another race would be if that individual is a moron, drug pusher/user, or a rapper. Write on. -

Yep...I think it's just preferance. Me myself as an asian woman likes caucasian guys. But it doesn't mean I won't date other races though. Interracial relationships are not so easy but they are enriching. Cheers!

the way i see it, it's just personal preference, i even narrow it down to which countries! i prefer caucasian men anytime after dating a number of different races, especially from US & Ireland because i love their accents, preferably blue eyes as well. but of course, most importantly is the personality that goes with the outer package.
those who can't handle it, maybe they just don't know what they prefer or they'll take whatever comes along! who knows?!

Wow. You said a mouthful. Just let me clear up some things that this commentor failed to take into account.
Fetishism is a sexual attraction to objects. Furthermore, preference for a certain race is just that-- a preference.
It's kinda funny... about 5 hours ago I posted a blog entry on this exact subject. I insist upon checking it out, because I think we share the same opinions on this subject matter.

It was a fun comment. And it did have some truth in it for sure, especially as per Western media showing Asian males as effeminate and all. Also, in the end I question the notion (if there indeed exists such a notion) of an effete Asian male. I think Japanese men during the World War 2... Proved to be the biggest rapists in modern human history. The raped women, took sex slaves, forcibly married women and produced thousands of children from Korea, China, Indo-China to all little Pacific Islands. Japanese men are Asian men and they don't seem to be effete to me.. -
