Here is a question that deserves an honest answer. If a man got into a fight with a woman and she was the agressor do you think it is wrong to hit her back?

only to actually prevent her from damaging you.
if she's out for blood....then yeah, i think you should defend yourself....
HOWEVER..... as i tell my children.... if she hit you first you STILL don't hit back.... you come get momma and I will dole out whatever punishment is necessary.
if she's hit you call the police. let them figure out what to do with her.

don't hit back just to retaliate..... "but she hit me first!"

    beyond childish.

that's how the physical abuse started in my relationship with my ex..... i slapped him across the face when i was angry.

after that he said it gave him free reign because i had been the first to strike him.

I think it depends on how all out she is.  Like Fallyn said, if she's out for blood, then it is obvious that you must defend yourself, BUT defense and going postal are two different things in most cases.  Also, you don't necessarily have to hit to defend.  If nothing else, avoid hitting her because it's so easy for a woman to claim 'abuse'.  What I mean by that is, there are many women who have never been abused, who don't understand what it really is, who like to get attention or hit a guy where it counts, and they'll SAY he did it, even if that's not the case.  Hitting a woman isn't right, but at the bottom of it all, physical violence from anywhere/anyone isn't right.

Fallyn pretty much summed things up.
Minimum force necessary to prevent further violence.

I tell boys who hit "You can't hit girls, and they are NOT allowed to provoke you.  That's the deal."

This means girls can be punished for teasing boys after being told to stop.  If they can't hit, they need a remedy and that means appealing to authority.
